Would you like to clear unwanted and unexplainable fears, phobias and emotional behaviors in your self, your partner, your children, your hard-to-heal clients, your pets? Do you have physical aches and pains that mystify your massage therapists, doctors, chiropractors? Could your business use a pick-me-up, a clearing, a breath of fresh air?

Spirit release and depossession have been practiced for centuries in cultures around the world. According to many medical doctors and psychia-trists, our symptoms of illness may often stem from an earthbound spirit attachment - and therefore, when the spirit is gone, so are the ailments!

When we hear the term ‘Indigenous Wisdom’ in the west what comes to mind? For many, the image would be of elder tribesmen sporting elaborate feathered headdresses while

sharing tales over campfires on Indian reservations somewhere in Arizona. While many would agree that there is some kind of wisdom to be found in the study of indigenous cultures, there is still a major gap between the mind of modern man and his gadgets and medicine men and their spirits. If an indigenous culture’s wisdom is respected, that wisdom is typically only considered relevant from within the indigenous structure itself, having no implications for the way that other, supposedly more advanced cultures might interact with the world.

While it’s true that most indigenous people’s way of life is less extravagant than many of ours,’ credit is rarely attributed to the areas in which their way of life are more advanced than ours. Native American tribes and societies (I use the example of Native Americans because they are probably of the most commonly recognized indigenous peoples in America) are structured and grounded in codes and ethics that maintain a deeper

understanding of natural virtues in a cooperative and sustainable community. Due to their lack of tactical manipulation techniques and war technology they were easily conquered and thus written about in the history books by conquerors who considered themselves more ‘sophisticated.’ This coloring embeds that prejudice into the subconscious minds of the west so long as history is told in the way that it is told at present. Eurocentric history has a habit of simplifying others, and though many Americans honestly have no intention of projecting a less evolved image onto the face of Native Americans, or any indigenous people the world over, the way that history has been subconsciously assimilated

gives it a spin in which the cultures that are deemed the most sophisticated are deemed as such for their physical and material applications of technology disregarding how unsophisticated the intent behind these applications may be. The spiritual contributions and the understanding of how to thrive symbiotically with the natural world is, I believe, a more crucial and essential form of sophistication than greed driven ‘corner cutting technology’ and is too easily over-looked when it is precisely what, in today’s world, should be more closely looked-over.

While Native Americans may have been naïve to the ways of a ‘conqueror mentality,’ Europeans were equally naïve to the ways of the natural world and that is an ignorance that is now dangerously coming to a head. I find it interesting that the concept of sophistication is associated with expensive clothes, cars, and diamonds while the very means for making these things available in products involves the exploitation, repression, and suffering of a large number of people on the planet, and I say things are coming to a head because other people are realizing this too. Certain areas of the world are bearing the weight for other parts of our planet. What determines the advancement of a civilization should only be measured in conjunction with how much those advances decrease suffering. Both worlds have a lot to offer each other and should be integrated utilizing the best of both worlds. The idea that indigenous wisdom doesn’t practically crossover is an ignorant assumption. If sophistication were defined as “the process or result of being cultured”, then taking an integrated approach to culture appropriation and assimilation would be the most sophisticated, and definitely, the least ignorant, way of going about unifying the world.

While the indigenous way of life may not have been a classless, naked paradise free from all injustice and war as some new-age anti-establishments romanticize, the sustainability and functionality of their way of life cannot be denied. For instance, indigenous groups have a deep understanding of their local ecosystems and the ways in which each plant, river and animal depend on one another to thrive. Permaculture, crop rotation, composting and other sustainable farming techniques are where indigenous wisdom shines in a decidedly technological way. This knowledge has been useful to scientists concerned with conservation, and sustainability and is becoming increasingly important as we come to terms with the world’s limited resources as well as the regenerative powers of Mother Earth.

Their relationship with earth goes beyond the philosophical. Their view of land ownership is far more in touch with nature, where the entire community owns the land, not just one person or another. Aboriginal Australian tribes base all of their mythologies around the land that their particular tribe lives in, and they refer to their mythologies as ‘dreamings’, believing that the tribe takes shape as much from the land as the land takes shape from the way they weave their mythologies. Furthermore, fields such as herbalism and astronomy are much stronger in native traditions, and are proving to be far more practically effective there than in many

of their western analogues. Even their calendars are more in tune with nature and the subtle energy of the planet, as most were centered around the 13 moons instead of the conqueror created calendar that was implemented to serve political agendas and even named after conquerors such as Julius Caesar (July) and the Roman Empire Augustus (August).

I am not proposing that modern advancements should be thrown out the window in exchange for simpler ways, but rather that by combining the application of modern technology with the wisdom of indigenous virtues the world is capable of an amazingly fast turnaround. This is the time for integration at all levels; no stones can be left unturned. With the use of the internet approaching full force in many developed countries, we have almost all the information we need available at the

tips of our fingers, it is imperative that we don’t overlook this indigenous wisdom while we refine our current world into one that creats a desirable future. I want you to be inspired by articles that highlight some of the wisdom we at Vision Magazine would like to see as more commonplace in our community.

wanting to be what we called a “scrode,” i.e., one who asked for help, I had to shuffle my feet all the way home.

I might still be shuffling were it not for the intervention of my older cousin Nick. One day, out of nowhere, while tying my shoe, he offered to teach me the secret of the knot. I breathed a sigh of relief, having resigned myself to a life of wearing slip-ons. Nick not only taught me to tie my shoes, he gave me the option of using a one or two-bow method. Being a sucker for the ornate, I opted for the double-bow. It was a watershed moment--I was no longer tethered to people who could help me when my laces lapsed. (Off-topic: My connection to my cousin Nick has endured to this day. I keep dropping hints that I’d love to learn how to tie a bow tie, but so far he hasn’t taken the bait.)

It was many years later when I happened to interact with another such person in a place I wasn’t expecting to find him. I was halfway through law school, and rather than support myself by clerking for a law firm, I opted for a role as my version of the last American cowboy: I delivered pizzas for the local pizzeria. One of our regulars who came into the restaurant every Saturday night was a local that everyone knew as Crazy Jerry.

Jerry was maybe five years older than me. Many years prior, when we were both still kids, he’d suffered a nervous breakdown at a time when people didn’t really understand what that meant, thus his nickname. He was taken out of school, institutionalized for a brief spell, and prescribed medications that visibly slowed him down. When he grew up, he wore his hair in a page boy, gained a considerable amount of weight, and took to wearing capes and ponchos. But his greatest personal asset was his girlfriend, Rita. Rita had spent her entire life in the special education sector of our school system. She was bright in her own right, I think. It’s just that she had this way of observing things no one else knew. And of making those observations with a 1000-watt smile plastered on her oval face, a gesture that gained heft by dint of her teeth, which were so discolored that we all thought they were made of wood. (Some people called her “Martha Washington,” though I wouldn’t hear of it.)

Anyway, Crazy Jerry and Rita were a couple whose sole joint activity was to frequent every eatery in town, all in one night (they both had curfews), where they would ingest more carbohydrates than a team of marathon runners the night before a race.

One night after they had sated themselves on pizza and french fries and more baskets of bread than I knew existed, Jerry pulled me aside. He had a gift for me. He’d been watching me, and based on what he saw he knew that I was probably one of the only people in the world to understand its message. He pressed a tape cassette with a piece of paper wrapped around it into my hand.

“Listen to this when you’re by yourself and can hear it,” he whispered secretively. I jammed it into the pocket of my winter coat and promptly forgot about it. That

is, until about a week later when I was on a delivery and my hands were so cold that I thrust them into my pockets, only to find Jerry’s tape. I popped it into the tape player and listened while the smell of hot pizzas getting cooler filled my car.

There was Jerry, introducing a poem he called “Star Love.” In it he free-versed about the ultimate power of the universe, love. And how love was responsible for everything that was, including the stars above. Love not only moved those heavenly bodies, it was the very stuff of which they were made. And if ever you forgot that lesson, all you had to do was look into the sky at night.

I haven’t seen Nick or Jerry in well over 30 years, though my cousin and I still correspond via email. As seemingly disparate as they may appear here, I think of both of them as kindred influences on my life. One helped me keep my feet on the ground, while the other taught me to look to the heavens for inspiration. All of which leaves me scratching my head.

I guess Uncle Tasso was right, huh?

“You’re on your way to becoming a disciple of the Infinite ‘Huh?’” my Uncle Tasso responding to my question about life’s paradoxes

I’ve always been a void. A cipher-in-training. And the greatest emptiness that filled me was the dangling question of how I was ever going to improve, to become someone other than who I was. At some point early on it became apparent that I was dependent on others to impact me. But when would anyone, intentionally or otherwise, give up some arbitrary tidbit of wisdom that would alter my course for the better? I’ve had the great fortune to know a few extremely wise people; the minute they engaged me I knew that they were in possession of insights that could render me mute. And silence was probably the best response I could have because it allowed me to absorb their brilliance however I could. This piece isn’t about those people. It’s about the ones at the other end of the spectrum.

My string of luck with these shadow-savants started when I was so young I hadn’t yet learned to tie my shoes. This wasn’t an issue until one day on the playground when one of my shoes became so untied that the laces sprawled and the shoe’s tongue hung limply. With my Mom nowhere in sight, and a budding sense of not

Travel decisions usually fall into well defined categories: where to stay, how to get around, what to do and where to eat, along with finding something different or “off the grid.” The definition of “off the grid” has morphed from living without public utilities to doing something out of the ordinary or unconventional. Given that, here’s my on and off the grid guide to San Francisco.

On the Grid

Where to Stay – Location, location, location. I am a Kimpton groupie and San Francisco is where they opened their first boutique hotel (www.kimptongroup.com). There are nine Kimpton properties in “The City by the Bay.” This trip we stayed at the award winning, newly renovated, four-star Hotel Monaco (www.monaco-sf.com) located in the Theater District just four blocks from Union Square.

How to Get Around - I highly recommend purchasing the San Francisco CityPASS (www.citypass.com) discount booklet. This allows you to ride the world-famous cable car as well as the Muni (public transportation). Additionally, Blue & Gold Fleet (www.blueandgoldfleet.com) and RocketBoat tours on the Bay are included. CityPASS is a great value.

What to Do - The San Francisco CityPASS also provides entrance to must-see attractions. We visited the California Academy of Sciences, the Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the deYoung + Legion of Honor and The Exploratorium.

Where to Eat – Just as Kimpton is the leader in boutique lodging, so have they changed the perception of hotel restaurants.

Scala’s Bistro (www.scalasbistro.com) is the definitive San Francisco dining experience; sophisticated with attentive, knowledgeable servers and great attention to preparation and presentation. Located inside the landmark Sir Francis Drake Hotel, its menu pulls from rustic Italian with French nuances, combined with the freshness of California cuisine. As you would imagine, there is an extensive wine list, creative desserts and lively bar scene.

Puccini & Pinetti’s (www.pucciniandpinetti.com) is a long-time favorite of mine. This reasonably priced Italian bar and grill is located just off Union Square and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has an exhibition kitchen featuring Italian classics with novel twists. It could best be described as a neighborhood style restaurant that’s kid friendly, with an energetic and casual atmosphere. I usually end up grazing at their happy hour extravaganza, but this trip lunch was on my schedule. Try their 3-course “Working Lunch.”

My two other meals were at the Hotel Monaco. Their Grand Cafe Brasserie’s setting is a turn-of-the-century majestic ballroom with soaring ceilings and art deco features mixed with contemporary touches. The food is regional French cuisine with local influences. A special weekend brunch menu combines imaginative breakfast items with entrees; don’t miss their take on the classic Croque Monsieur. Lunch is also a treat in this splendid room. The mussel appetizer with freshly baked bread is enough for a meal. The adjoining Grand Cafe Bar features a happy hour and pre-and post-theater dining.

Off the Grid

How to Get Around - When I made hotel reservations, I noticed that Pacific Heights Limo (www.phlimo.com) handled transportation for the Hotel Monaco. I called and realized that PHL’s private car service was not much more expensive than travel by taxi to/from the airport. Plus, the door-to-door personalized service

Ask the LifeQuake™ Doctor

Dr. Toni Galardi

According to the book The Geography

of Bliss, in spite of all that, we don’t rank high on the

world stage on the level of happiness

and contentment. We are committed to the pursuit of happiness,

not being happy.

Well, Spring has sprung. What is blooming in your heart, your body and your life? Have you weeded out the self limiting beliefs? The Spring of 2013 is like no other. Time to go for your dreams.

Dear Dr. Toni:I am a fifty - year - old woman who ended a two - year relationship recently.

The relationship started off very fast and the last year began to devolve. I decided to give myself six months to heal from this. I meet men but I put up walls. I don’t want to get hurt again. I loved this man like no other and feel such a loss. I feel that I grew tremendously but am wary of getting involved with anyone.

Last week, I was contacted by a man I met on an internet dating site three and a half years ago. I am no longer on the site but he kept my information. At the time, I was not interested in meeting someone who lives 1500 miles away. Now I live in San Francisco, 800 miles away. It still means a two hour plane ride and one hour by car. I am an astrologer like you so I looked at his chart and mine and it does look like there is karma between us. My reservation is that I am only out of this relationship for 6 weeks. Do you think it is too soon to get involved with anyone else, Dr. Toni?

Confused in the Bay Area

Dear Reader:So, there are a couple things here. First off, deal with the hurt you are carrying

around about the guy you left. What is the story you are telling yourself about this

guy? How is that story mirroring a childhood wound? Go into your body, to the place where you feel the hurt from this relationship. Be with the hurt. Now be with the part who hurt you. The part that abandoned you in the relationship, rejected you and believed that whatever he did, you deserved it.

Once you don’t have any more charge on him or fear of getting hurt, then go slow with this new guy. Ask questions, listen deeply. Take your time getting to know him before you ever meet him. Seeing someone who lives at a distance could be an opportunity to break a pattern of getting in too quickly. Stay contained with your own emotions. Wait a month to actually meet and speak by phone on a deep level. Listen, listen, listen.

Dear Dr. Toni:I have a phobia. It is not of spiders or snakes or heights. I fear making major

changes. I wait until disastrous things happen. This has been very costly in the long run. I am in a job I hate but once again, I am terrified that if I let go of this job, I might not find what I really want to do. Do you have any recommendations for tools that could help me get ready for change?

Vice GripDear Reader:You are not alone in this fear. They say that the number one fear in America is of

public speaking but I would suggest that the number one fear is the fear of change. We are not a country that has been pummeled by the ravages of war from a foreign enemy, our value system is all about financial security, and we have had a history of being one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

According to the book The Geography of Bliss, in spite of all that, we don’t rank high on the world stage on the level of happiness and contentment. We are commit-ted to the pursuit of happiness, not being happy. If you are using financial security as your reason for staying in your job, ask yourself how important happiness is to your life. I would never recommend just letting go of your job until you have built “adapatability muscles”. I have a book and Cd that is devoted to exercises that build change mastery at the body, mind, and spirit. The LIfeQuake Method is a change management approach that can give you many tools for negotiating this time of transition for yourself. Both of these can be gotten at my website http://www.life-quake.net.

Good luck and enjoy the journey!

myself a shaman, and I was not going to call myself a healer. You see I believe we are all shamans and healers of one kind or another, we have just forgotten how to tap into it. I teach people how to trust themselves once again. We all have an inner guidance system. It is time to turn that part of us on again and guide our lives in such a way that we can live the life we came here to live.

VM: And what way is that?IS: It is the way of the Indigenous peoples. A few issues ago you published an

article I wrote called A Modern Day Shaman. It spoke about us being the new Indigenous peoples. If we are going to make a change on the planet we have to tune into our inner guidance and trust spirit to support us. It is time to focus on the land, organic farming and clean water. This is what it means to be connected to the land and the spirit of the land. My first real connection to this was when I went with Alberto to Peru in 2008. He works with the Qero, the medicine men and women of the Andes Mountains. The Qero blessed me on sacred Mountain tops and performed Despacho ceremonies, which are Peruvian prayer bundles honoring the earth and your prayers. I had no idea what was going on but I learned so much. I now guide small groups there and show them the wonders of this beautiful land. In 2009, I joined Marcella in the Amazon jungle and for the first time I really I saw myself. I saw the power I was still giving away. Even though I had done so much work on myself I could still see the victim. It shocked me, but I overcame it.

The last traces of it were finally being removed. I walked out of the Amazon a new person and was forever grateful. In 2010 I was asked to speak in Iquitos Peru. Here I was in the Amazon again only this time speaking. The sense of pride I felt in my accomplishments was immeasurable.

VM: So you now take people to Peru and the Amazon?IS: In 2009-2010 I heard that I needed to take my first group to Peru. My guest

included Peter Sterling, Ken Parsons and Mary Hill. We went to balance the masculine and feminine energy and bring that energy back to the states. I remember they wanted me to guide them to Lake Titicaca after the Sacred Valley experience and I told them I couldn’t as I had to return in time to teach. At the time I was teaching acting and public speaking at Fullerton College, so I said no. Within a few days I got a call from the Dean of Fine Arts who said he was sorry but they were letting all the adjunct faculty go. I was so excited! I had lost my job! I called my group back and said, “Guess what! It looks like we are going to Lake Titicaca!!” I had finally stepped into my power and spirit was supporting me 110%. It was obvious to me that spirit wanted me to do this full time. So I turned my home into the Orange County Healing Center and I got to work.

I really think that is what it is all about. Take what you are given and make the best out of it. If you can take that moment and be excited for whatever it is, your life will get better. If you are experiencing challenges you have to see it as a golden nugget to do something different and then ask spirit to guide you and do something new. What stops so many people is the fear of how it’s going to turn out. It is the attachment to the outcome. Not knowing what is around the corner. Feeling out of control. But it just is the fear of moving forward that stops us. For me, I just do it anyway. I never know how things are going to turn out. But if I feel

Isabella Stoloff is amazing in her desire to always be open to the possibilities life has to offer. I love the line Isabella used, “I believe in the possibility of everything. “ Because I feel it is really not up to us to know all that will come into our lives. I hold my mind and heart open to the infinite wisdom and joy within all of us.

VM: Our theme this month is Indigenous wisdom, which I think is perfect for your Shaman work Isabella. How did you start your work? I’m sure there have been many layers but how did the beginnings of your healings, your teachings and your group work start?

IS: In 1991 I had a complete life change, a total transformation of who I once was. I began a path of trusting the Universe. I knew that your thoughts became things. I followed Louise Hay and devoured her book, “You Can Heal Your Life”. I practiced those affirmations daily. Then I discovered Doreen Virtue and her beautiful Angel cards and I really started to trust a part of me that I had never trusted before.

Prior to that time I had been stuck in victim mode for many, many years. Through this newfound trust in myself and spirit my life really began to change. I started to empower myself with my thoughts and with my vibration. At the time I didn’t believe in God the way the rest of the world does. I found God to be in the flowers, trees and animals. Years later I found Church of Religious Science and I remember thinking to myself “My goodness there’s a religion that believes like I do!” At one point they started talking about other planes of existence and I thought they were crazy, so I left. You see at that time I could not expand my consciousness to believe in something so far out. This has been my process. At first I believe in a little, then a little more. Now if you told me an alien ship was in the parking lot I’d say, “Of course there’s an alien ship in the parking lot.” I try not to go there, but I have had people come to me that needed healing from this type of thing. I have also had X military, so I know it’s true, I know it exists. I just choose not to have it be a big part of my everyday life.

VM: So what brought you to Shamanism?IS: In 2006, my mother had been in a rest home for a year and a half due to

dementia. I could hear her calling me through the ethers, “Get me out of here.” I could feel how stuck she felt. She had raised me very eclectically. My mother believed in psychics and astrology and was very spiritual and psychic herself so it did not seem odd to me to hear her speaking to me although she was not there. I remember thinking, “How can I get you out of there, when I can’t get myself out of here!” I was in Idaho getting a masters degree in performing arts, and I was very stuck in my own life. I needed to make a lot of changes and I was not moving forward. I called someone for help and they introduced me to a shaman in Chile. Again I could not wrap my head around an over the phone healing, which is funny to me now since I give them. But I felt so stuck I knew I had to do something fast. So I had the over-the-phone healing with a woman named Marcella Lobos who is now the wife of Alberto Villoldo (she wasn’t at the time). Within one month my mom transitioned, and within 6 months I had a complete transformation. A few months later I called Marcella and asked her to extract my dead husband, he had been with me for over 20 years and he needed to go. It was not a happy marriage and I was still stuck in that darn victim mode. Once she had extracted him my life really began to change. I moved back to California with my daughter and began studying with Alberto. When I started studying shamanism I was not going to call

Where to Eat – The Ferry Building’s Farmers Market (www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com) features local farmers and artisan food products every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It’s festive and the opportunities to buy gifts, snacks or a meal are mind boggling.

What to Do - For an evening to be entertained and amazed, head to Peter Morrison’s Marrakech Magic Show running Thursday through Sunday (www.morrisonmagic.com). It begins in the Sultan’s Oasis lounge where you can order drinks and appetizers along with a “meet and greet” with the affable Peter Morrison. His

sleight of hand and illusions will confound you throughout the 75 minute show. The intimate showroom accommodates 40, so there are no bad seats. Kids of all ages will have a magical evening.

I would highly recommend an off the grid day trip. Take the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf, walk to Pier 41 and catch the Blue Gold Fleet ferry to historic Angel Island State Park (www.angelisland.com). Reminder: CityPASS includes vouchers for the transportation. Once there, take the tram tour or rent a Diggler Mountain Scooter or Segway for a fascinating exploration of this remarkable place. It was formerly an immigration center, prisoner of war camp, military post and Nike missile defense site. It is currently an active Coast Guard station. The island, the largest in the Bay, offers miles of hiking and bike trails, including one to its highest point, Mt. Livermore. On a clear day you can see all five Bay Area bridges. Plan to eat at the Angel Island Café featuring an eclectic menu with daily specials. Much of the produce is from their organic garden. My favorite was the pulled pork sandwich. The Angel Island staff in the restaurant and at the park are friendly, helpful and well-informed. It’s a travel experience you won’t forget.

guided, I just do it. What is the worst that can happen? You fail? What is life about anyway if not to risk, take chances and grow? I could have absolutely no money in the bank, and absolutely no idea of what tomorrow’s going to bring, and I just say “OK Universe, we’re all in this together, lets make something happen! And it always does. The one thing I know is I’m deeply rooted in the mother and that all of our seeds are planted in Pachamama, mother earth, Gaia, and that if we plant our seeds in the mother, and expect our mother to take care of us, she will. To me this is the Indigenous wisdom. The Indigenous people knew that if they took care of the mother, the mother would take care of them. And from that place of deep deep knowing they pray to the stars. But they pray to the mother first with all their heart and soul. They then take that connection to the mother and pray to the god of their own understanding. We can all learn much from this.

VM: Can you tell us a little about your upcoming Sedona retreat April 26th-28th?IS: I love guiding people on spiritual journeys and am so excited to have one

locally. We will be staying at the Sedona Mago retreat center. They have actual Vortexes on the land and I will be connecting the participants to the energy of Peru and Sedona, as well as giving channeled meditations. During my transformational retreats people are able to release layers and lifetimes off the energy field. I will teach the participants how to cut cords and balance their Chakra’s so they can detach from the day-to-day drama and really tune into and trust their intuition. We are going to have a great time!

VM: So when you cut these cords, all the energy is released and you’re free to explore whatever passion or creativity you want to realize.

IS: Exactly! Our energy fields are blocked and we need to find the root cause and cut the cords so we can move forward in our lives. It’s about taping into the creative genius we all have, and downloading more of our own light. Whatever other people think of us is none of our business; it’s what we think of ourselves. The work that I do assists in clearing at such a level people feel lighter and are able to focus more clearly on their passion. I believe we spend too much time beating ourselves up, and we are constantly in the negative mindset. We are always thinking about what’s not working. Why? Why do we waste so much time on what is not working? I ask people to focus on what is working in their life. I tell them to say Cancel-Clear-Delete to what’s not working, to the negative mind, so they can expand their consciousness and have more space in their head to create what they want.

VM: Wow, that sounds great.IS: I started teaching people about the 17-second rule. Did you know it takes 17

seconds to release an old thought and imprint a new one? So here comes a negative thought, and rather than let it take over your energy body and imprint and cord you to that situation you catch it and let it crash it the shore of your mind. Then pinch your index finger and thumb down as hard as you can and re-imprint Love into your mind and cells. Say Love, Love, Love, Love. Love, Love….and take deep breaths in and out for 17 seconds. Hold the vibration of Love in your mind, body and soul. Do this often and watch your thoughts change. Then listen to your mind and what it is saying. Awareness is half the battle. You will begin to notice the negative thoughts are gone and you will say, “Oh my gosh, I’m not thinking. Listen, I’m not thinking, there’s no thought….Yeah! Now I have an empty board and I can dream a new world into being.” Use your mind to serve you instead of tear you down. Visualize what you want, or how you want to feel. Then here comes that negative monkey mind again, right? You may say, “ Wait, I can’t see it!” I ask, but can you feel it? Can you feel the life you want now? Continue to practice this. I promise you, it works. Another great tip is what I call, “Blow it into the stone”, this technique really helps you to release your issue into the light. Find an everyday stone to carry around and when things come up just blow it into the stone. You can clear the stone by putting in the moonlight or sunlight. Call in the Angels and blow it out off the stone into the Universe knowing all is well. Spend time everyday telling yourself, “I am divine, I was not born into sin, I was born into light, and love and laughter. And so it is.”

IS: The work that I do is much like a spiritual therapy session. People come to me from all walks of life and talk to me about their problems. I have them blow their issues into a stone they have chosen from my Mesa. Stones have been around since the beginning of time so they can carry the weight of the issue. My Mesa is my medicine bag. It is filled with stones I have worked through my own issues with. So the client blows into the stone all that no longer serves them as they are talking to me. While they are speaking I track their deepest wound. I look at places they may have had that same feeling before. I do past life soul retrievals, but have found the present day soul retrieval to be very powerful. And most past life issues are directly connected to the present time. I have been gifted by spirit with a new type of present day soul retrieval, and something called, the Crystal Star Light rites. During a session I have a way of tuning into exactly what the soul needs to move forward. I release many layers of trauma, pain and suffering off the energy field and balance the Chakra’s so my clients can live the life they came here to live. It is much like peeling back the layers of an onion. Everything that has ever happened to us, we store on our energy field, and at a cellular level. I call those memory imprints. We can still be corded to the trauma. This is why many people are easily triggered, and find it hard to have peace and calm in their life. I go in and heal the old wound at the deepest level, and bring back fragmented soul pieces. The healing is very deep. I feel that my private shaman training program is going to be good for therapist that want to learn energy medicine to incorporate into their practice. Because now you are not only taking about the issue but you are actually removing it from the energy body and out of the cellular memory. It’s brilliant. I’m so pleased that spirit has given me this information so that I can teach it to others. This technique heals at such a deep level people have profound life changes.

I am so honored to be on the planet at this time. Coming from where I came from to where I am now is nothing short of a miracle. Energy medicine really works.

Not every idea promoted there is the right answer, but innovation requires experimentation and feedback. These kinds of gatherings, wherever they occur (usually “conferences”) are the basis for the relationships that create improvements and changes.

While Earth Day is partly a celebration, the focus for organizers and exhibitors is on taking action the rest of the year on what you learn on Earth Day.

You can help by volunteering online at EarthDayWeb.org. This year’s theme: “Add Your Voice” was created in response to the biggest threat ever to the existence of EarthFair–the denial of the permits required by the City of San Diego. Hundreds of support letters from volunteers, businesses and attendees, added to the calls to keep Earth Day in the heart of Balboa Park. Challenges already exist to issuing permits in 2014 and 2015. To add your voice, send your email, with your name and ZIP code to: [email protected]

Earth Day is particularly inclusive, because it is about universal ideas that we hope can inspire anyone who wants to make a difference to do so. All of us at EarthFair offer hundreds of ways to do it. I took a photo of one of the hundreds of signs at last year’s Earth Day in Balboa Park. It said “Peace, Love, Happiness.” Is this too optimistic? If we don’t strive for improvement, it surely can’t happen. If thousands keep working on it, surely it can. Please add your voice.

Another Way to Add Your VoiceDo you an individual or a group making a difference? Are they “under-

recognized”? Nominate them to receive an EARTH Award from San Diego EarthWorks, the non-profit organizers of the Earth Day Fair in Balboa Park. EARTH stands for Environmental Action or Restoration that Helps. Nominations are made online athttp://www.earthdayweb.org/VIP/EAwardOnlineReg.html and are due by April 21st, with the awards event on May 29th.

Carolyn Chase is founder of San Diego EarthWorks, the non-profit organizers of the annual Earth Day Fair in the heart of Balboa Park, San Diego. She also served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of San Diego, and was a founder of Move San Diego, committed to improving the sustainability of transportation choices in the San Diego region. For those who don’t like it, it’s hippies, patchouli and drum circles.

For those who do, it’s solar power, water conservation and protecting the natural world. For organizers, it’s the challenge of safely gathering thousands together in the post-9/11 era.For thousands of attendees, it’s the best people watching Southern California has to offer.

This year’s 24th annual EarthFair in Balboa Park–the heart of the park in the heart of San Diego will take place on Sunday, April 21st from 10am to 5pm. The Children’s Earth Day Parade marches down El Prado beginning at 10:3am.

For all the judgments and opinions about what it is and the thousands of things people find there, at its heart EarthFair is a one-day marketplace for the discussion and celebration of the human relationship with the natural world–with all it’s flaws and fabulousness.

Aries: Empress (7 of Pentacles)Security issues become more prevalent this month as you begin to feel that finances, your job or relationship are getting better. Pause and think about what it is you really want. Perhaps you’re afraid that you’ll lose what you have by taking a step in a different direction. This is normal! When you outgrow a phase in life, it’s simply time for another one. Like the seasons, the positions, places, and faces in life constantly change. Instead of making excuses or putting off the inevitable change, trust your creative imagination; it will show you what to do next.

Taurus: Fool (5 of Wands)This month, anything’s possible when you trust the unknown and in your ability to take risks. Even if you’re struggling, you must look at obstacles as stepping stones instead of boulders. Although it may seem like your ideas and deeds are met with strife and com-plications, it’s only a temporary hindrance. The purpose of seeing this through is to adopt patience and flexibility while continuing to entertain the integrity of your vision. You are known to be a strategically oriented person, but try letting loose and be spontaneous. Follow your instincts and take that leap into the unknown!

Gemini: Lovers (6 of Pentacles) Relationships are the perfect mirror for pointing out values, strengths and weaknesses. Notice how what you admire in another is also something you want or value. It’s also true, although not as easily accepted, that what is disliked in others often reflects unsavory aspects in you. To a degree, people reflect back to you the self-image you have created. As you judge them, you also subconsciously judge yourself. Look closely at your relation-ships for the underlying dynamic. You may discover that you are more involved with a projection or expectation of that person than with the actual person. Issues regarding fairness will likely prompt a heated discussion.

Cancer: Hermit (Page of Swords)You may need to withdraw a little this month to analyze yourself more closely – reflection without distraction. This type of contemplation restores the actual nature of your charac-ter. By quieting the noises outside, you can become more aware of the voice inside you. Perhaps you will learn a thing or two. As the age-old proverb advises: Accept the things you cannot change, change the things that you can, and wait patiently until you know the difference. Remember that this is about what YOU think and feel, so don’t listen to what anyone else has to say.

Leo: Devil (5 of Cups)Your negative feelings, whether conscious or not, are sending the wrong message to oth-ers. There’s a factor you’re unaware of, or perhaps being too blasé about. Feelings of loss or guilt about something you’ve done may be the cause. These feeling have you chained to a negative outlook, causing things to appear worse than they really are. Within each loss there’s a lesson like every gray cloud has its silver lining; yet, in order to realize this, you must completely shift your paradigm and let go of these destructive feelings. New possibilities are available as long as you don’t resist change.

Virgo: Star (King of Swords) Faith is an enigma, not a concept to be intellectually understood. Because it is abstract, you must let go of the need for an explanation and trust the symbolic meaning. Give your mind a focus that does not involve the future or past, allow it to channel the impressions it naturally absorbs, then simply observe. As you become the master of your mind, you will live in the moment with acceptance and curiosity, not judgment and fear. A tough situa-tion around the 20th will require more than a cool strategy. Before executing solutions, sit with the dilemma and see what unfolds.

Libra: Emperor (4 of Wands) Your hard work and determination will be praised in the eyes of others. This may come in the form of a promotion, a raise, or some wonderful gift. If you’ve been working on a plan or project that is somehow dependent on the opinion or approval of another, now is the time to reveal what you have been doing. This is also an excellent time to show appre-ciation to all those hard-working people in your life. Be generous when complimenting others and be sure to express the pride you take in having them in your life.

Scorpio: High Priestess (6 of Wands) Seeking approval can sometimes be a futile endeavor, particularly when you compromise your standards to obtain it. Look closely at the ways in which you search for attention and ask yourself if they are truly in integrity. A gratifying experience may be nothing more than a superficial backrub. Some of the characteristics you have become accustomed to flaunting might be disconnecting you from your source. Be cautious of those who promise to take care of you. You will be easily distracted by your attachments if you choose only to see the good in people - er on the side of caution.

Sagittarius: Judgment (7 of Cups) Seeing beyond illusions is probably one of the hardest lessons in life because to do so you must live with accountability. Similarly, continuously searching for pleasant experiences only leads to a path of longing. To live in balance is to live without needing to avoid or cling to people, place and things. Freedom is awaiting you when you’re willing to let go of fantasies. The joy of life is to be fully present to pure experience without being captured by it. Be real about the quality of your life. As you focus on more meaningful matters, you become more available to live.

Capricorn: Justice (Ace of Cups)A current emotional experience in your life requires an unemotional sorting out. Al-though you may be feeling overwhelmed at the moment, getting an objective perspective – perhaps by asking a friend – can help you understand your situation better. Although wise to follow your heart, be cautious not to be taken over by sentiment. To determine the most appropriate course of action, you need a balance of mind and heart. If you’re just beginning a relationship, the standards you set at the start will dictate the theme of your time together. Notice how people treat you when you respect yourself.

Aquarius: Temperance (5 of Wands) As you know, life is about balance; which is not to say that differences are unimportant or that there’s a universal right and wrong. The totality of life experience is born out of the tension of opposites, but when you’re accepting and open, you have more clarity for resolution of that tension. The art to creating balance requires your discernment and flexibility amidst a constant state of change. There’s always room for adjustment if you’re willing to compromise. The struggles you’re experiencing can be resolved with a dose of compassion and creativity. If you feel blocked, find another route.

Pisces: Strength (Five of Swords) Power is often thought of as an ability to control or stop a difficult situation. Ironic as it may be, this force of energy often overwhelms the very resources needed to solve a prob-lem. Challenges can be opportunities in disguise. To be aware of this, however, you must stay with the uncomfortable feelings long enough to see the opportunities. Strength is a quiet determination, unfolding from the inside and illuminating your personal boundaries. A power struggle around the 10th will test your ability to relinquish control. In this case, it is wiser to accept your limitations than prove your point.

I N D I G E N O U S W I S D O M

By James Greenfield

We are all teachers. From birth we have a natural desire to share knowledge. It begins with a joyous and spontaneous impulse.

Mommy, Daddy, Look!! Look!! Can you remember being a child and wanting to share the wonders of your environment with those closest to you? I can.

This is what Mai [my wife] and I experienced the first time we heard Ac Tah speak. We felt that we had found something in our local environment (Mexico) that was vitally important and we wanted to share this with our English speaking spiritual family around the World. We started by inviting Ac Tah to Ajijic, Mexico to give his messages to the English speaking community there. Over one hundred people came and it was Ac Tah’s first time speaking with a translator. It was a huge success and confirmed our thoughts and feeling about the importance of the messages and technology that this man was bringing forth from the Ancient Maya.

So who is Ac Tah? He is Mayan man who comes from a three thousand year Mayan lineage in the Yucatan, Mexico. His Grandfather told him, when he was a child, that he would one day walk across Mexico and deliver important messages and information to the people about the change of a great era.

When we met Ac Tah he had just finished eighteen months of walking (literally on foot) across the North and Central part of Mexico, sharing the messages from his ancestors with anyone who would listen. He had visited many indigenous tribes in remote areas as well as diverse religious and philosophical communities in the cities.

His message was powerful yet simple. The achievements of the Ancient Mayan culture were based on advanced technologies that were derived from the neuronal network of the human brain. A brain network that really can only be created when the individuals within a society live in Unity and collaboration with one another. Competition and division stops any meaningful evolution of a society.

According to Ac Tah the true significance of the end of the Mayan long count calendar is that a window of opportunity presents itself with the arrival of a high frequency cosmic energy. If enough people can align themselves to receive this new frequency then the consciousness grid of the planet can be shifted to allow for a higher evolution. We are now working within this energetic window of opportunity and we must unite and work together.

Ac Tah was taught by his Grandfather on how to decode the information left by the ancient Maya at the pyramid sites throughout Mexico, the keys to their ancient technologies. With this knowledge he has staged three portals of light opening events in Mexico, implemented the Mayan pyramid technology in the form of sacred geometry (Mayan labyrinths) and constructed thirteen pyramids (11 in Mexico and 2 in the United States).

He has brought out transformative tools both personal (the Maya Vibration Sound Technique and magnetic pendant) and planetary (Mayan Mirror of Orion, Skywalker and Plumed Serpent Labyrinths, pyramids and toroidal movements) that can accelerate and facilitate our planetary evolution. And there are more tools coming.

What actually happened on December 21-22, 2012?Mai and I were with Ac Tah and the large group of people who gathered in the

Yucatan to work with him to help receive and transmit the incoming cosmic energy.

Our work centered on doing the magnetic toroidal movements around the Chichen Itza pyramid during the afternoon of December 21st and then later around the special pyramid that Ac Tah had built in the village of Piste next to Chichen Itza. This work continued through the night until noon on the December 22nd.

For some people this was a time of awe-inspiring connection and transformation. Yet other people did not notice any changes at all. We have heard from many people from around the World about their experiences on Dec.21-22, 2012 and they are similar to what we saw in the Yucatan. This is a time to continue to use all of the tools at our disposal to raise our vibrational frequency.

I have worked to bring Ac Tah to the English-speaking world because I believe that he carries an energy that both activates and aligns people in their cosmic purpose and because he delivers tools, technologies and wisdom from an ancient source, without promoting any particular philosophy or modality. If Ac Tah promotes any philosophy it is that all philosophies and modalities are valid. He tells us that his name Ac Tah signifies “the man who talks“ and that he is just looking for friends, not followers or students.

Ac Tah will be touring the U.S. beginning with conferences and workshops in Northern California (SFO, Santa Cruz, San Jose) April 17th- 21st and ending in Washington D.C. May 4-5th where he has been invited to do a Mayan geometry (labyrinth) on the Mall near the Vietnam Memorial. One of the effects of this particular geometry is liberation. Given the special location of this labyrinth we expect this to be a very powerful event. He will also be speaking in New Mexico, North Carolina, Florida and Virginia. For details about the tour and further information about Ac Tah please visit our website: www.actah2012.com

World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Plan-The Return to Natural Time- Time is Freedom as Art.By Wanique Khemi-Tehuti Shabazz

All of life on Earth, and Earth itself, is governed by a natural timing frequency, and only humanity, of all the species of life, is destroying its own biospheric support system. In its daily life, virtually all of modern humanity is governed by the anach-

ronistic, irregular, and unnatural twelve-month Gregorian calendar. Instituted in A.D. 1582 by the Vatican, the Gregorian calendar is the final fruit of the first twelve-month calendar invented by the Babylonians 5,000 years ago. Based on a measurement of space, the flat circle divided into twelve parts, this Babylonian Calendar, was a notable error in time.

There are no natural cycles corresponding to the number twelve. The natural human cycle is governed by the female biological rhythm of 28 days.

Thirteen of these 28-day cycles is 364 days, one day short of the 365-day orbital cycle of the Earth. The relation between the female biological rhythm and the cycles of the moon was known and understood by all of humanity prior to the rise of historic civiliza-tion in the Middle East, and memories of the thirteen-moon-28-day calendar persist to this day in many parts of the world.

However, the triumph of modern European civilization worldwide, marked by the imposition of the twelve-month Gregorian Calendar, sealed the destiny of modern hu-manity into a self-created, unnatural and artificial world. The imposition of the Gregorian calendar was compounded by the concurrent invention of the mechanical clock, also based on the artificial cycle of twelve, and further divided into arbitrary units of 60 minutes, 60 seconds per minute. The combination of calendar and clock created the artificial human timing frequency, 12:60.

Driven by the philosophy, “time is money,” this 12:60 frequency accounts for the scientific materialistic revolution of the seventeenth century, the industrial revolution of the eighteenth century, the democratic social revolutions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, resulting in the out-of-control twentieth century materialism. All of this can be attributed to the fact that humanity has based itself on a notable error, the artificial timing frequency of 12:60.

The only solution to this devastating and hopelessly accelerating situation is to return to the natural timing frequency of nature, codified for humanity in the 13-moon-28-day calendar.

The Thirteen-Moon Calendar Change Peace Plan, Long-term EffectThe new world calendar of 13 moons is a universal template for planetary unification.

Every moon of 28 days is equal to every other moon. Maintaining the 52 seven-days of the year, every day of the week and day of the moon is the same for each and every one of the 13 moons.

All existing religious and lunar calendars, as well as national holidays, can be regularly scheduled into the new calendar.

The 365th day of the year is always a “day out of time,” that is no day of the week at all. In this way the day of every year and of every moon is Sunday. The quarter day now celebrated as an accumulated leap year day every four years, accumulates instead as thirteen days every 52 years. Since 52 years is the term of the solar-galactic cycle, a planetary jubilee of thirteen days is to be celebrated every 52 years. The 13-moon-28-day calendar is a perfect harmony of time. While space is physical, time is mental. If the calendar we follow is irregular, artificial and mechanized, so becomes our mind. As is our mind, so our world becomes, as is our world today: irregular, artificial and mechanized. If the calendar is uneven, inconsistent and is of crooked measure then so is the world’s political, social and economic state as run and manipulated by crooks. But if the calendar we follow is harmonic and in time with natural cycles, so will our mind become, and so we may return to a way of life more spiritual and in harmony again with nature. Changing calendars is the first and most important step to stop us from the path of destruction we are now following. There is no other solution.

Time is and always has been a mystery-the great mystery of our existence. It is inargu-ably the most familiar element of our lives. We are born into time, live in it, measure it, pass it, spend it, save it, waste it, die out of it, don’t have enough of it, and talk and act as though we understand it. But if we step away from this “understanding” for a moment and ask the simplest questions about time, it quickly becomes apparent that we under-stand nothing at all.

IT’S ASCENSION “T I M E”Harmonious, healthy communal life on planet Earth always has and always will be a

function of being in tune and aware of Moon’s orbit around Earth, not the Earth’s orbit

nonsense in a session. I remember telling her something about the end of my

marriage and she said, “Sydney you know that is not true.” I hadn’t wanted to face at the time how someone I had trusted and helped truly did choose to harm me. It seemed harsh at the time but she was absolutely correct. Sometimes it is truly difficult to face the realities of one’s life but with a person such as Grace with a discerning mind and intellect and a compassionate heart and vital spirit, whom I trust completely, my journey has been shortened in the healing process.

The debilitating pain from believing in and trusting the wrong person has lessened almost completely. My actions came from love and I can never regret that. I feel open to the limitless possibilities that are showing up in my life every day. There are

amazing people in this world with integrity, honesty and true love for me. My belief in people has been restored.

Grace has also released a CD that is called Spirit Release and I have been playing it nonstop since I first received it, especially during work and in the evenings before bedtime. The lyrical selections are soothing and uplifting. The messages contained within are embedded in the music and aid in healing, stress reduction and most importantly spirit release.

Grace’s Spirit Release CD can help release spirit attachments that could be the cause of your frustrations and, according to many medical doctors and psychiatrists, your symptoms of illness as well. For centuries, cultures all over the world have developed methods of spirit release and depossession; and for our modern times I sought out a new method that I could easily use and incorporate into my daily life. Grace’s CD can be played anytime, anywhere and in any company. Utilizing a special recording process, messages are silently delivered to the earthbound spirits without any need for interaction on your part. Anyone in listening range can simply enjoy hearing the soothing piano music and simultaneously reap the healing benefits of Spirit Releasement. The subliminal messages that play underneath this soothing piano music are loving acknowledgements to the spirits, explaining their earthbound existence and walking them through the light to be received in the realm of love. By the end of the CD you will have experienced an entire Spirit Releasement and Clinical Depossession session, from the comfort of your own home, car, office basically anywhere.

Grace’s selections offer specific assistance for the areas in our life we may need, such as home or office, a hospital bed or a child’s room. For myself who had suffered several debilitating miscarriages I have listened repeatedly to the selection that offers assistance in this realm. And during my healing session we had released the energy of two of these difficult miscarriages.

Although it seems miraculous I do feel that the work I have done with Devin Grace has transformed not only my heart, but also my spirit and the health of my body. Each day brings about its task that at times might appear insurmountable, yet in my present state, all that I am given as challenges are already taken care of. I cannot stress enough the power of Grace’s work. At times I was a skeptic, I am now a true believer. Our work together has transformed my life. I will be forever grateful.

Devin Grace can be reached at DevinGrace.com or at NoNonsenseHealing.com or please call at 800.980.7636. Her CD is available on her websites and in addition to her healing sessions both in person and on the phone she is now offering trainings to those interested in her unique process.

You are brave, brave warriors, exposing, witnessing and releasing all that has haunted you for years, and sometimes even for lifetimes. I am honored to be beside you as you reclaim the memory of who you really are without all of that baggage. You amaze me with your honesty, your fearlessness, your accountability and your commitment. Thank you for the work you do in your sessions – you are the truest teachers and healers among us. ---Devin Grace

Each day that has passed since my last session with Devin Grace I feel as if my heart has shed a heaviness that had previously weighed it down. I feel this lightness in my whole body, but most

essentially in my heart area; it’s awash in love. I feel it beat, and my body and spirit feel excitement for each moment and day. It is amazing to me that something seemingly so simple as a simple hour spent on the phone has transformed my life. My fevers have lessened; my nausea has become almost non-existent. My adherence to a healthy lifestyle and supportive and loving people is effortless in its simplicity. Grace calls this form of healing, The No Nonsense Method.

I do have to admit that her laser sharp mind really won’t allow any kind of

Propelled by the visions and commitment of countless individuals from coast to coast, festivals have reached an all-time height of popularity in American culture. From the 50,000 people who attend Burning Man in the Nevada desert each summer to the handful of die-hards who make the annual Segway Fest happen, just about anything under the sun can be celebrated in the form of a festival.

With so many types of festivals presently in existence, it’s important to distinguish between them and decipher what exactly it is that’s being celebrated, honored, revered, remembered or downright overlooked. Teenagers, mainstream music and Molly are a dime a dozen at the average music festival these

days, but those of us looking for deeper meaning require more from an event to make it worthwhile. The ideal festival doesn’t just entertain those in attendance; it transforms them. Moreover, the line between who’s putting on the festival and who’s merely paying for a ticket becomes blurred to the point of obsoleteness. The festival is no longer just an event; everyone on the festival grounds and everything that they do become the festival itself. Centuries of indigenous wisdom are able to come together in the form of music, dance, art, community and ceremony. Futuristic as the scene may look, the best festivals draw on some of the oldest human traditions in the world.

It’s not entirely uncommon for these gatherings – especially the music and arts variety that have come to be known as transformational festivals – to set forth

ideas to guide those in attendance, but the lessons are usually vague, fleeting and all too quickly forgotten. Fortunately, the visionaries behind Lucidity Festivals have taken this lack-of-purpose phenomenon into account and created a detailed Six Year Story Arc to act as a sustainable navigational tool for participants not only at the festival itself, but for the rest of their lives.

The inaugural Lucidity Festival took place in April 2012 in the oak-speckled mountains above Santa Barbara. Founded on the open-source philosophy of encouraging participants to bring their own music, art, dance, healings and teachings to share with others, Lucidity Festivals has taken the idea of creative growth to a whole new level with their Six Year Story.

Attending any or all of Lucidity Festivals is an

A Conversation with Jake DuceyBy Sydney L. Murray

“Come to the edge,” he said. They said, “We are afraid.”“Come to the edge,” he said. They came. He pushed them….and they flew. Guillaume Apollinaire

Jake Ducey is one of the most extraordinary young men I have met. His passion for life and living is extraordinary. He is in my eyes an old soul who truly understands

what it means to live a life to the fullest. His compassion and interest in the human condition is boundless.

Recently I realized that I have gotten bogged down in minutiae of life. Coming back to center I am reminded by Patrick Haize the Creative Director of Vision Magazine who said,“ If you are taking action then there is no time for thinking of or defining a “problem”. The element in their lives that both Haize and Ducey share is that they both are fearless. I want to return to the fearless state again fully, to trust and to become.

Ducey writes at the end of the chapter entitled A Miracle, San Marcos (Guatemala) December 22, 2010.

“A fire cannot burn beyond its past ashes, only by new wood and fuel. New actions, thoughts, and perceptions are our fuel. You are the fire. Now you must burn, until you are living with meaning.”

That quote says it all to me. Here is my conversation with this extraordinary man. Vision Magazine: Our theme this month is indigenous wisdom. What does that

term mean to you?Jake Ducey: The term indigenous wisdom means to me what’s already within

us, our innate intelligences, our innate greatnesses, our innate genius, our innate capacity to transform million of people’s lives, that we have the same capacity within us as Gandhi did, as Martin Luther King did, as Oprah does. These people have all impacted the world in a significant way, and so can you and I. Indigenous means to me an innate capacity within us that’s always ready for us to draw upon. As within my book, it’s stated by the shaman I met that we’ve been in the “Age of Great Forgetting”, where we forgot the innate capacity of which I previously spoke of; and now we’re entering the “Age of Great Remembrance,” which is the

indigenous wisdom they’re wishing to share with the western world.

VM: Absolutely, I did love your book by the way; it’s beautiful [Into The Wind]. I know you did a lot of travelling throughout the world, was there one place that really stood out or affected you and where would that be?

JD: That’s really a tough question, and I usually don’t say one, but if I had to pick one that had a profound impact on me, going back to our capacity to affect millions of people, while I entered Indonesia without money and was taken care of my locals, and I ultimately tried to pay them back. They said to me, “I don’t want your money. Life is about giving without expecting return”. That perfectly coincides with this message of indigenous wisdom.

VM: What would you believe, at 21, your life purpose is?JD: My life’s purpose is helping people realize that the purpose of life is to find

a purpose. Just like Gandhi said, “If you can’t find a life worth living for, then you should find a life worth dying for”. That there isn’t a definite purpose to humans, because we’re all different, and the purpose is to “fill in the blank” to find it. So my purpose is to help people to realize that. When we get so stuck on finding our purpose we actually limit the possibilities of what our purpose can be.

VM: You’re at that place where you could be in college, but you’re actually out there creating, and living, and exploring. I think that’s actually the best age to do it, when you’re young and open.

JD: Yes, it’s very exciting that’s for sure. VM: I love that line in your e-mail “miracles are normal”. Where did that come

from? I believe that.JD: I think the term miracle has a natural mystic connotation that is something

that our western minds can’t grasp. When you look at the simple facts, it’s a miracle that we’re sitting on a rock flying through space, and a giant ball of gas that we call the sun rises every day, and it brings life to all these little green things that grow in the ground, with these other humans that are moving around. We don’t even have to make our bodies digest food; we don’t have to create the energy that pumps our blood. The scientific evidence that we haven’t even been able to find life on other planets in the infinite galaxies, through the vastness of space and on this little tiny rock there is life here that we haven’t found anywhere else. And it is a miracle that we can reach millions of people at any time around the world, that we have this capacity within us that has the opportunity to truly touch so many people’s lives, that’s a miracle to me. It’s also a miracle to me that most of us don’t notice that it’s a miracle.

VM: I know you went through a rough patch in your teens. Was there any defining moment?

JD: I never knew how bad I was suffering because I was busy partying. I was covering it up with everything and on top of that, with the quickness of the Western life, we sometimes don’t feel our feelings, you think you’re feelings. “I think I feel like this…”

I was listening to an audiotape and I thought it was stupid but I finally put it on, and he said, “There is life in your hands. Don’t ask your mind but go to your hands. Bring your attention to your hands and see if there’s life in your hands. I could feel the energy there. It is the energy measured on the EKGs in hospital that track our

heartbeat. I could feel that inside of my body. I was outside of my mind. It was the first time I ever felt unconditional love within myself. It was true peace. I was shocked. I didn’t know it existed. How have we never been told that this exists within us? Everything that we’re looking for is actually within ourselves. That was one of the defining moments that had me shift my priorities around about where I wanted to direct my attentions in life.

VM: How did you get the title of your book “Into the Wind”?

JD: The title of my book “Into the Wind” means essentially getting to know the unknown. The title came from a few things. In the last chapter, as I’m leaving the monastery, one of the monks said to me, “All leaves fall from the tree, old and young. Would you be satisfied if the wind came and blew your leaf over?” He was talking about our bodies and

passing on. And that was one defining moment. I knew it was going to be something that involved the wind. It’s a symbol of faith, and what I call “testing the principles of calculated risks.” That is, stepping into the unknown and life will balance your experience. If you trust in the unseen and start taking steps, the unseen will reveal itself to you.

VM: You totally took a “step off the cliff” multiple times.JD: Yes, especially since I came from a non-faith background I think I did a lot

of things that people would think was stupid or extreme because I truly had to see I was supported.

VM: That’s when spirit is revealed though. Whatever you want to call it love, god, spirit that’s when you know the net is there, the people are there, and the arms are there.

JD: Precisely, that is what Into the Wind means to me, the net is there, and the arms are there. But it is when we can get our feet off of the ground first.

VM: But I love the title of your book tour: “Inspire My Generation” what does

Death & Dying Workshopa buddhist perspective

with Kelsang ChokyiBuddhist nun & Resident Teacher at Vajrarupini KBC

This is the simplest and most obvious truth of our existence, yet few of us come to terms with this fact. In this workshop, we will explore how to live a happy and meaningful life to prepare for death and help others do the same.

We are alive, therefore we will die.

around the Sun.Not the solar time of 12 falsely labeled “Vatican” months, but the “lunar harmonics

and tones,” of exact mathematical order. The Moon orbits the earth 13 times in one year; 13 Moons, 13 months, 28 days each.

Although the cycle of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun had its purpose and significance, ancestrally we understood that the correct frequency of “time,” the true means of align-ing the individual self with the soul’s divine destiny, was in the 28-day cycle of the Moon. The 13 moon lunar flow, once attuned, easily and effortlessly activates the fourth dimen-sional “Body of Light.” (The Universe Awakens calling Thy Name.”)

The “Law of Time” states that there is one timing frequency that unifies the whole galactic order from its largest to its smallest.

That frequency is based on 13 lunar months, not 12 solar months. “False Time” is the construct for the essence of all “Ego”. “False Time” is the supreme illusion of life’s greatest deception. “False time,” is the root of all global governmental functioning.

Free your soul, free your mind, free your heart, free your spirit, and regain your Divine Birthright. You are the seed of creation, born of the Stars. Thirteen moons…Thirteen major joints in the body...Thirteen, a number that Babylon says is bad luck is revered by the ancestors as the number of “Universal Movement,” the interconnected presence that allows all things to be and move. Thirteen is the number of transcendence, the energy of circulation that continues the spiral on its path of evolution. Thirteen moons, thirteen cycles in a woman’s body; thirteen is the galactic movement of time the portal of fourth dimensional “Ascension.”

THE MAYAN TIMEKEEPERS and THE JULY 26th NEW YEAR’S DATE.The Olmec/Mayans viewed the sky as 13 constellations through which it took ap-

proximately 28 days to transit. Also, the idea that the Mayan New Year begins on July 26

is just one of the views of the Mayans as they had many calendars. *Jose Arguelles’ also known as Valum Voton’s points out this particular date has great significance astronomi-cally because the brightest star in the sky is Sirius.

After disappearing behind the Sun for two months, the first reappearance of **Sirius comes in the early dawn sky on Gregorian July 26. This is why many Mayans mark July 26 as the first day of their 365-day year.

Galactic time is accessible only to humans who have evolved beyond fear and in the proper way, it can harmonize and tune the human form and consciousness to the galac-tic “tone.” This galactic tone is a voice of the Galaxy. Nearly all of humanity experiences this tone as fragmented. On different levels, the human ego and the solar system act as filters. They both fragment the one tone into many. The twenty Day-keepers carry these fragment pieces of the one galactic tone. [A Daykeeper is the name for a diviner in the Maya culture.] By working with the Day-keepers and becoming familiar with them, you are guided back to the original one tone. The Day-keepers are essentially the voice of the Galaxy. They are the voice that reaches humanity and touches our consciousness. We are now being invited to become more intimate with the Day-keepers. We can do this by acknowledging their presence and expanding our human awareness to include the galactic voice.

The Day-keepers have returned at this time because it is necessary for humanity to ac-cess true time. The “Galactic Wave” is encompassing our entire solar system, including the Earth. It will wash out the memories of civilization, as we know it to be. True time will resume for us, as it was for the ancestors who seeded humanity on this planet in the beginning of the illusion of time.

Wanique Khemi-Tehuti Shabazz is a Olmec/Mayan Daykeeper. He offers comprehen-sive readings as Galactic Signatures. HOW TO MOVE BEYOND SUFFERINGTERRY L. NEWBEGIN, channeller, author, and a teacher of New Energy Consciousness has released his third book, “Unlocking The Consciousness of Your Soul.” It is a book that reveals all the whys of you choosing sin, physicality, forgetfulness, and suffering as the means to remember who you truly are. It is a story about where you began eons ago, who you think you are because of your intellect, and how you were lied to, brainwashed, and led astray by those that were closes to you. It is a book that unravels the mystery behind God and your suffering. When you live and make decisions from the mind of reason, your intellect, and from what the experts declare what is best for you, your soul cannot bring forth the wisdom that you hold deep within your consciousness. Thus you become disposed to turbulent experiences.

Shakti Fest celebrates its third season May 17 - 19 at the Joshua Tree Desert Retreat Center, in Joshua Tree, CA. Yoga, kirtan music and wisdom workshops celebrating the divine feminine spirit will be highlighted.

The kirtan artists at Shakti Fest include the top two female kirtan players – Wah! and Donna De Lory as well as the genre’s superstar Jai Uttal, plus Dave Stringer, Prema Hara, Larisa Stow and Shakti Tribe, Govind das & Radha and many other inspiring performers.

Of Wah! Yoga Journal notes “Mantra-scene veteran Wah! seems to be halfway between samadhi (union) and ecstasy. Her theme is the oneness of divine love and eros. Wah! lays down her love dharma in sultry downtempo grooves, throbbing club beats, and spoken-word rap passages. When the groove’s in full gear, she has us right where she wants us: blissed out and deep in the throes of a love that can’t be labeled.”

Donna De Lory is recognized worldwide as a singer, songwriter, producer and musician, consciously creating music with a positive message. Well-known as a background singer and dancer for Madonna, De Lory has continued to make her presence felt as a solo artist. A devoted student of yoga and spiritual teachings,

Shakti FestShakti Fest: The Festival of Yoga, Kirtan and Wisdom Celebrating the Divine Feminine Returns to Joshua Tree

Donna is inspired by Indian devotional music, Sanskrit mantras, Western pop, Northern African grooves, as well as dance beats from her travels around the globe.

World class yoga teachers Shiva Rea and Sara Ivanhoe bring their immense Shakti energy to the desert along with Kia Miller, Christi Christensen, Felicia Tomasko, Elka Haeckel and many more. Shiva Rea’s “Yoga Shakti” is one of the most popular yoga DVDs of all time, released in 2004 it continues to be a top seller. A creator of Prana Flow Yoga, Rae’s classes are a must attend highlight of any festival. One of the faces of yoga in America, Sara Ivanhoe is the instructor for the “Yoga for Dummies” series, the “Crunch Yoga” series and Russell Simmon’s collaborator on “Yoga Live.”

The Shakti centered workshops highlighted in May include Mirabai Devi’s “Living in Light: Anchoring the Power of the Divine Feminine” and Laura Amazzone’s “Shakti and the Tantric Wisdom Goddesses!”

Shakti Fest also presents attendees with the opportunity to experience massage and other spa treatments in the healing sanctuary. Additionally there is a marketplace with eco-friendly vendors offering delicious, raw, vegan, and vegetarian foods and beverages, yoga gear, clothing, crafts and more.

There will be three separate ticket intensives around Shakti Fest: Saul David Raye’s pre-festival intensive – “Honoring & Embodying the Divine Strength, Wisdom & Love of the Mother,” a pre-festival Kirtan with Marine turned Monk Indradyumna Swami, and a post-festival intensive with Shiva Rea “Awakening of the Energetic Heart - Integrating Bhakti in Daily Life.” For information and tickets please see http://bhaktifest.com/category/festivals/shakti-fest/intensives/. Accommodation options include camping and RV parking, all on site. There are also ten local hotels within a few miles of the retreat center. The following is an excerpt from Loveability: Learning How to Love and Be Loved by Robert Holden, published by Hay House, available March 1, 2013, in bookstores or at www.hayhouse.com.

Love is Your Destiny

“I’m looking for love,” said Evelyne, as she moved around in her chair, trying to get comfortable.“How is it going?” I asked.“Not great,” she said.“How long have you been looking?” I asked.“About four years now,” she said, trying to smile. “But it feels a lot longer than that.”“How much longer?”“Too long,” she sighed, her eyes flitting around my office.“That’s a long time to be searching for love.”“Yes.”“Evelyne, have you ever considered giving up the search?”“Oh, plenty of times,” she laughed.Conversations with Evelyne were full of jousting and play. She had a stoic sense of humor, which I enjoyed very much, but I chose not to laugh with her this time. What we were talking about was too precious to run away from. So I fixed my eyes on Evelyne’s eyes and very deliberately asked her again, “Evelyne, have you ever thought about giving up the search?”“What do you mean?” she asked.“The way I see it,” I said, “looking for love is blocking you from finding love.”“Say that again,” she said.“Looking for love is stopping you from finding love.”“So what do you suggest?”“Stop looking for love.”

Looking for love is hell. Everyone’s been there. We’ve all done it. It’s a mindset you identify with when you forget who you are and what love is. It’s what you do when you experience the fall from grace and you fear that love has abandoned you. In this hell, you search for love outside of yourself. The searching leads you to believe that you exist outside of love. You act as if you and love are two separate things. You think the purpose of the world is to find love, and then, once you find it, not to lose it again.

Looking for love is frightening. That’s because it’s a strategy used to conceal a most terrible fear you would rather not look at: the fear that I am not loveable. I refer to this fear as the basic fear because we all experience it, and also because it gives rise to every other fear. This fear is not real, but you don’t know that if you’re too scared to look at it. So, you decide to leave yourself alone, and you start looking for someone who will find you loveable. This is just as scary, though. Where will you find this person? Are they still available? What if they are gay, or not gay? Do they even exist? Okay, maybe they do exist, but what are the chances of them loving you if you don’t love you?

Looking for love is painful. You are looking for love because you have judged yourself to be unloveable. Until you change your mind about yourself, your only hope is to find someone who will overturn this judgment. So you try to create a pleasing image that hides the pain of feeling unloveable. This image knows how to be seductive, to attract attention, and to win admiration, but because it is not the real you, it does not attract real love. Therefore, you keep on looking, but because you won’t change your mind about yourself, all you find is your own lovelessness.

It’s difficult to believe in love when you are looking for love. The

more you keep looking, the more unloveable you feel. Because you don’t believe you are loveable, you can’t believe it’s possible for someone to love you. Eventually, you begin to doubt if love even exists. This is the worst pain of all. To believe that and to keep on living is impossible. Now you are just a shadow of yourself. You have reached a dead end. Looking for love hasn’t worked. So now it’s time to try something else. And that’s a good thing.

Love is an inner journey home. The way to get there is to start here, right where you are now. The goal of this journey is not to find love; it is to know love. This knowledge exists in you already. I call this knowledge loveability.

I’m sitting high up in the trees, overlooking the incredible hidden city of Las Pozas, in San Luis Potosí, México. A light rain is falling from an electric sky, which is itself obscured by towering extraterrestrial trees. Abstract buildings lie dormant—swallowed up by the jungle—and massive tree roots spiral up around concrete obelisks like boa constrictors. Welcome to La Huasteca, the tropical rainforest at Xilitla.

I’m wondering how I got here, but I guess it doesn’t really matter. The true amazement lies within this fantasy realm. I can’t believe what I’m seeing; there are cerulean pools of water, serving as mouths to a succession of cascading waterfalls, just below me. Parrots and flamingos are circling above. Although the natural scenery is captivating, what makes Las Pozas (the pools) so memorable is nature’s juxtaposition to the bizarre architecture. How did this sweet confusion ever manifest? On a mission to locate the paradise where wild orchids grew profusely, Sir Edward James (1907-1984), a wealthy twentieth century art patron and charming social setter (who was rumored to be the son of England’s King Edward VII), made an expedition to Mexico’s fertile Northeast Coast in 1945.

James was an Indiana Jones-like adventurist who had become disillusioned by his own monetary wealth and the “materialist” nature of the Bourgeois European social scene. When he came to Xilitla, he encountered the pools of water and was brought under their spell. What he did with his time in Las Pozas is beyond the scope of most ordinary men. With a crew of hard-working local paisanos, he constructed his art: a living, walking, three-dimensional canvas. His extensive living quarters merged the human habitat with jungle. He dreamed up and then constructed spiraling staircases that corkscrew up into the trees and simply “end.”

James’ unique visions and dreams became a physical reality, and with guests like Sigmund Freud, Ray Mann, Aldous Huxley, Salvador Dali and filmmaker Luis Bunuel, some out-of-the ordinary parties took place here. Inspired by the

Surrealist Movement of the mid-twentieth century, James often commissioned works by Dali who said, “Edward James is crazier than all the surrealists. Others pretend, but he is the real thing.”

When a freak frost put an end to the lifespan of his orchids in 1962, James decided to start anew, although inorganically. He built inconceivable giant bulbous

columns, which give birth to blooming, concrete orchids at the top. Each section within the labyrinthine paradise is linked by sets of symmetrical staircases, which, from a distance, bear a striking similarity to an M.C. Escher drawing.

While traversing the mystical landscape one cannot help but ask, “How did this eccentric man manage to orchestrate all this?” You’re perplexed. Just then you walk across a fish pond in the form of a human eye—where the “crocodiles would play.” Then you wander up a path of concrete snakes that leads you up into the trees.

Continuing your exploration, you’ll walk through doors that appear from out of nowhere and are unattached to any kind of structure. You may find yourself on a leisurely stroll, chasing a butterfly, metaphorically lost in the ethereal forest.

Xilitla – A Surrealists ParadiseBy this time you may no longer be able to resist the urge to plunge, enthusiastically like a child, into the waterfalls.

While in Xilitla, you can stay at a hotel in town and then walk a kilometer to the pools, or if your budget permits, you can stay here on the grounds at El Palacio, a posada surrounded by jungle. The heavy flow of stream water rushing over giant ancient rocks undoubtedly directs your

dreams.Once under this lush canopy of vegetation, it’s easy to forget that you’re outside.

While you slip into the tranquil flow of Las Pozas, the tree-like sky morphs into something green and mysteriously unknown, an anomaly that can only be experienced in the flesh.

By Jeri Jacquin, Movie Maven

Opening this month in theatres is the film OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN. It tells the story of

the White House being taken over by unsavory types who want to hurt the United States. This action film filled with twists stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckert, Morgan Freeman and Dylan McDermott.

McDermott is not an unknown face to television or films. One of his most famous roles was that of Bobby Donnell who started on the show THE PRACTICE that lasted for over seven seasons. When not on television, he starred in such films as HAMBURGER HILL, IN THE LINE OF FIRE and THE CAMPAIGN with Will Ferrell.

It was pretty sweet to have a chance to chat with him today about his role in OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN along with the big question I was asked about AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

Hi Dylan, how are you?Hi Jeri, I’m good, how are you

doing?Pretty good actually, very sunny

so you can’t ask for more right? There you go!I appreciate your time today

Dylan.Absolutely.I know your busy so I’m going

to jump right in, what peaked your interested about wanting to do the film?

Really I liked the whole concept of the movie of the White House being taken over. I also wanted to work with Antoine Fuqua; I am a big fan of his. Plus, as an actor I believe you’re only as good as

your director. I’m really making an effort to work with great directors and I believe Antoine is one of those. That was it initially and I’ve worked with Millennium Films before and have a relationship with them. I thought this would be a pretty cool role and Antoine able to let me to improve a lot with the role. I had fun with it.

What did you like best about playing Forbes? For me it was the improving of his political background and the whole speech

about globalization, buying of the presidency. I wrote that a couple of days before and Antoine let me put it into the film. It was fun to put in “there was a reason I never voted for you” and I wrote it myself and it ends up in the film. That was kind of a thrill for me.

Have you ever gotten to do that before? Not really. I mean there was a little bit on THE CAMPAIGN because it is Will Ferrell

and Zach Galifinakis and they were improving quite a bit. Its nice to hear your own words sometimes you know?

Doing improv with Will and Zach sounds more like pure insanity when they do it.Exactly.The storyline was a tad scary; didn’t you think that while reading the script?I guess that was the whole point really, playing on our fears. We live in that world

now and it’s our every day reality. The idea that the White House being under attack is one of the scariest things as Americans we can deal with. It’s a mix of fantasy and reality and I think that’s what makes the movie kind of cool.

You also work with a huge cast but mainly with Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart. I’ve talked with Aaron before and he is such a gentle person so for him to play this kind of role was harsh. How was it working with both of these guys?

It was great. I think everybody was on the same page and in the same movie and it was a very intense shoot. Everyone was really high strung on this movie. That was a lot of fun to be in that kind of tension and walk into that set – I love working with that kind of tension.

From start to finish there isn’t much time for the nerves to relax. No, there isn’t, there certainly isn’t.Was that a huge rush for you all? I realize it is different when you’re filming it to

when it comes together.I didn’t even know! I watched a screening in New York recently and I had no idea it

was going to be that intense. I choked up a couple of times, especially when Morgan Freeman says about the White House “it has been taken”. I was surprised to tell you

the truth.Your getting extremely good at being bad you realize that right? What?! <laughing> You mean because of THE CAMPAIGN?Well, there is that but also AMERICAN HORROR STORY.Oh gawd yes, that was bad!Are you kidding me? You have gotten so many people so riled up and they love

it so that’s always a good thing. But come on Dylan, you really are good at bad! It’s enjoyable! The movie is only as good as the bad guy in it. You have to have

something to fight against. You have to be finding some enjoyment in playing all this badness.I have to tell you there is some enjoyment in it, there really is. You don’t get arrested,

they don’t put you away, there’s no consequences…You don’t end up in the paper, or your mug shot on TMZ.Yes exactly, you have got to unleash something in yourself that lays dormant with

no repercussions from it.When you’re being bad you have a gleam in your eye you know. What? <laughing>Every close up there was that gleam and I thought ‘you know, he’s really have a

good time with this’.That’s funny! When your making a film that is this epic in scope and you can’t tell them what’s

happening, how do you avoid it during interviews? Its hard, like you say you don’t want to give it away so you have to figure out a way

to tell some of the story. You walk a tight rope. You did get to spare a little bit with Gerard Butler; did you have to do a lot of

training for the fight scenes?Yea, we rehearsed it a couple of times and choreographed it with the stunt

coordinator but by the time Antoine calls action that all goes out the window and it’s like a real fight.

Oh no!You know it’s an action movie and people get hurt and the only person you can’t

get is Morgan Freeman.Hey, you can’t hit God!Nope, you definitely can’t hit God!Well, you are smacking Gerard Butler, did someone get hurt? Be honest now.Oh yes, we both got hurt. You can’t do an action movie and not get hurt, that’s

impossible. Then you have to look at each other and apologize.Yea, it comes with a dinner.Part of you has to be thinking ‘I smacked Gerard Butler’<laughing> What are you working on now, any more bad boy to look forward to?Yes, I have a film coming out called BEHAVING BADLY with Selene Gomez

coming out later in the fall. That’s a really, really bad character too so I have finished my quote yet but I promise I will let you know when I do.

Okay, now you know I have to ask this – are you coming back for Season Three of AMERICAN HORROR STORY?

There has been talk. We haven’t figured it out yet and it’s sitting at a strong maybe. You know you have to; I’m telling you you have to!I love the show, I really love the show. I love Ryan and it’s a tremendous show and

anything I can do for AMERICAN HORROR STORY, I’m there! You freaked me out pretty good last season.I hope so!Thank you for talking to us today, it was truly a pleasure to talk to the baddest bad

boy I know.I love that!

Interview with Jake DuceyContinued from page 21

Hello my name is Sydney and I am the publisher of Vision Magazine. I am seriously looking for a partner in a cute cabin on Palomar Mountain. It is a very spiritual place and although rustic has huge potentional.

It is a retreat and a sanctuary. $550 per month and we can make changes as we progress. Lovers of trees and rocks are essential. An honest person would be ideal. If you have a four wheel drive even better.

that mean to you? JD: Fifteen years ago, the President of the United States, didn’t have the power the

ordinary citizen has today, in terms of the Internet’s current capabilities. For instance how quickly something can go viral, how quickly a message can go around the world, how quickly we can share information with one another, news with one another. It is about my generation speaking out and using the technology. It’s about using this era that we’re in to switch around economic, environmental, and social discrepancies. 22,000 children die each day because of poverty related diseases. It takes $15 billion dollars for every child to be in school and we spend like $20 billion [each year] in America on ice cream. It’s switching around these socio-economic discrepancies. Especially since 15% of Americans have reported that they’re depressed. That’s an expiring life style. We’re on the course of expiring ourselves as a planet. And inspiring my generation is about shifting that. It’s about doing things that we want to do, because then we have the energy to be able to find out what’s happening throughout the world; it’s about what’s happening within ourselves. It’s about utilizing this innate capacity in present time, which is the capability to reach 8 billion around the world in less than a day.

VM: Now with your charity, I know you give back; I know you work with orphans. What other areas are you focused on?

JD: My goal right now is 10% of the proceeds [of the book] will go to building schools around the world. The first school will be in Gili Trawangan where the people live that saved my life. It’s going to cost between $10,000-15,000. After each of these schools is built, out of the next $10-15 thousand, we will build another school.

I don’t know where the next school will be but that is my primary focus. Because as you know, I’m not a major proponent of [formal] education, but I do know that when every child has an opportunity to be educated, 22,000 children won’t die everyday.

And that’s my focus. I’ve been directing [this energy] in only one area, but that’s been the advice of people like my publicist Jill [Mangino]. However, I’m very interested in what’s happening economically as I had studied business; with the printing of

our money [fiat money]. We need to have a better money system and money that is actually backed by something as well as de-privatizing the Federal Reserve. I’m interested in that as there are a lot of problems that aren’t going away by ignoring them.

VM: Well, at least you’re not just saying our system sucks; you’re actually trying to do something about it and being proactive.

JD: I think a lot of times, with people who are socially aware; we get so caught up in the problems, and not some of the solutions we can propose. I don’t have all the solutions, but I do know that among the 8 billion people in the world, there are more than enough solutions.

VM: I really love the chapter “Fear Isn’t Real.” Why fear isn’t real?JD: Fear is made out of anxiety about events that are outside of our control. To

me, the only thing that’s actually real is what is within us. And when we know what’s inside ourselves, (which is the power that creates and destroys the world,) we then always have the opportunity to control what we’re focusing on. Yet we don’t have the opportunity to control all outside experiences. That is where fear comes from. What we see in the world it’s not real. It’s a reflection of how we internally view it. And so, fear to me is created by our reaction to events out of our control. A lot of times it’s about events that haven’t even happened yet. How can it be real if it hasn’t even happened yet? I think that’s one of the main things, we get so scared about what can happen next Tuesday and it’s still just Saturday. How can it be real if it hasn’t even happened yet?

VM: Be in the present. You also talk about your heart. What do you do to strengthen your heart?

JD: The first thing that came to me is that I listen to it. It’s just like intuition or faith. Your heart is an energetic, emotional muscle that is strengthened when we give it attention.

VM: What does the word faith mean to you? JD: Faith to me means calling forth those things that be not as though they were,

and treating them as if they were happening. It is trusting the unseen, and allowing it to show itself.

VM: I know a lot of your travels seem to be about these amazing synchronicities. What does the word synchronicity mean to you?

JD: Synchronicity is the by-product of exemplifying faith. Synchronicities are the seen elements of faith. When we trust the unseen, and great things happen, that’s synchronicity. It’s the branches of the tree that is faith; it’s the fruit from the branches of the tree of faith.

VM: What do the next six months look like for you?JD: The next six months are going to be very interesting. I’m very excited. My goal

over the next months and the next twenty years of my life, beginning with this tour, is that I want to speak at a college every single night. I’m giving a speech at the University of Washington, which is one of the largest universities in North America on the release date of my book. I’ll have a great endorsement, which will allow me to present at any school in the nation and probably the Western world. That’s going to be the beginning of the tour. I’m going to be giving speeches at some of the major Energy Medicine Schools and Bastyr is the first. That’s where I’m beginning, in the North West. Then there will be a few months of the tour dedicated to the West Coast, and from there I’m working my way back East. I intend to tour for this whole year and attract the attention of the national media. My ultimate vision and intention is to head to New York, and also Chicago to see Oprah.

VM: I loved the forward of your book by Laird Hamilton, I thought, that was amazing he is such an inspiration in the surfing world.

JD: Yeah, it was perfect to get that from Laird, as he’s the epitome of taking risks. And I have Jack Canfield (creator of “Chicken Soup for the Soul”) as a mentor and he is the foremost influence in my life. In the next print of my book I will have his endorsement on the cover. He’s guiding me about how to reach my goals. I’m really excited. Time Magazine called him the publishing phenomenon of the last decade. His wife told me he’s looking for a young person like me to help get in position to influence the next generation. But what it all boils down to is we’re all one generation. Changing the world applies to a 90 year old and it applies to the baby that’s still in its mother womb.

Jake Ducey is surely one of the most extraordinary humans I have met in a long time. He is a force to be reckoned with. If you have time and interest read his book Into the Wind. You will never look at your life the same way again.

opportunity to explore one’s own identity to such an extent that positive collective transformation can eventually take place. Lucidity’s creators want participants to be aware of who they are, what they believe in and how their own strengths and weaknesses can best be integrated into society at large. While other festival producers may have this general desire to create positive change as a motivating factor for putting on events, the ideas often get lost in a disorienting sea of lights and sound. Monkey see, monkey do – and if all a person can observe at a festival is partying, their own inner quest for self-discovery is already a heavy underdog. The Lucidity team, on the other hand, is doing its best to bring the concepts of personal and collective growth to the forefront of participants’ consciousness and day-to-day experience by integrating the indigenous wisdom-inspired Six Year Story into the core of the festival’s philosophy.

The theme for the first year of Lucidity, “Awake in Your Dreams,” was an invitation for participants to experience personal awakening by understanding their own potential, letting go of fear, identifying with who they really are and gaining the confidence necessary to continue along on the journey of transformation. Much like lucid dreaming, participants become not only aware of their own archetypes and immediate surroundings, but also begin to identify themselves in the context of the outside world and learn how to effectively interact with it.

For the second Lucidity Festival (April 12-14 of this year), the theme is “The Totems’ Return.” With an emphasis on inspiring a deeper personal exploration, participants are encouraged to turn to the animal kingdom for guidance. The Totems’ Return is all about identifying with the animal or animals within us all and achieving a greater sense of clarity and purpose as a result. Whether one sides with the wild Monkey,

noble Dragon, humble Tiger or wise Owl, it’s an opportunity to further understand who we are and how others can simultaneously be reflections of ourselves.

With one’s own human archetype and animal spirit brought to the forefront of consciousness, a profound realization takes place: we are all connected to each other. “Universe” will give Lucidity 2014 participants a chance to fully embrace who they are, where they are and what they are being called upon to do.

The fourth year of Lucidity brings the personal epiphanies of individuals back down to Earth and encourages the incorporation of oneself into the greater collective path. “Tribe Quest” is a time to contemplate how we, as individuals, can best interact with others and the environment. It’s a time to turn to our ancestors and ancient traditions for wisdom and start working together for a better, more sustainable tomorrow.

“Crossroads” represents the collective courage and perseverance necessary to overcome obstacles and continue to be light in a world of darkness. While we are not alone in our struggle, we still face oppressive forces that slow down our quest to improve the world at large. The fifth year of Lucidity is a reaffirmation of the validity of our efforts to make positive, peaceful and powerful changes in society.

The final installment of the Six Year Story is called “Eudaimonia” in reference to “having a good indwelling spirit.” Lucidity’s sixth year will be a time to show gratitude for the journey that we have been on together and the animals, elders and spirits who have helped us along the way. Unified as one, participants are now ready to take everything that they’ve learned and apply it out in the world – thus propagating the sacred legacy of indigenous wisdom. All of the lessons from the past six years are no longer just ideas, but actual tangible actions that impart real, meaningful change in individuals and communities alike.

By setting up this gateway to explore ourselves and our surroundings over a six year period, Lucidity Festivals is taking unprecedented measures to harness that awesome human energy we all share and maximize its potential. Yes, Lucidity is still a time to celebrate, but it’s also an opportunity to learn, grow and achieve positive transformation as individuals and collective inhabitants of the Earth.

By Tomas Loarca

Possible Reality is a son’s touching tribute to his father, Carlos Loarca, whose five-decade painting career brought

indigenous art into the present. Loarca’s creations have been featured around the world.

Loarca, born in Guatemala, grew up steeped in the colorful ritual and ceremonies of the Mayan Indian and the mestizo cultures. Loarca particularly remembers walking to the cemetery in the early morning hours of the Day of the Dead, when the townfolk carried huge flower wreaths to pay respect to their ancestors amid the profusion of flower-draped tombs.

“The color in the paintings is a direct reflection of the colors of the Indian colors in their own costumes. I grew up seeing all these bright colors in the market, in the street and especially during all the festivities and celebrations in Quetzaltenango,” he says.

When he was eighteen, he came to the United States. In his new life in California, he found a way to combine his color-drenched past with the new influences around him.

Many Guatemalan artists have followed Pre-Columbian traditions. Many others have combined the so-called “primitivism” with European, North American, and other traditions. Yet, as this book shows, his work is in a class of its own. Loarca’s paintings combine the colors of Guatemalan clothing and daily life with simple geometric figures repeated in different configurations.

Loarca’s communicative masterpieces infuses bright Mayan colors with Guatemalan mythology. His muse El Cadejo comes alive in his work. Cadejos, in Guatemalan and Mayan folklore, are animal spirits that appear to travelers at night, either to protect them or kill them. This legend, which Loraca heard as a child, has greatly influenced his work, which (in the artist’s own words) capture “the sociological, psychological and philosophical aspects of the legend.”

Some of the quotes of Loarca’s contained in this book may lead the reader to redefine what they thought they knew about painting. For instance:

“When I began to paint, my aim was never to master a craft. It was merely coincidences of opportunity, chance and discovery that brought my painting out to light. It was the mystery and the abstraction of the format of painting that intrigued me to find out what was going on in me.”

“The most exciting part about painting is in the experience itself of doing it. When the actual painting is taking place the fantasy of the mind and the powers of creation help to bring our special surroundings about me in the studio. As the painting takes form, the head does not really understand what it is that it is doing. The inspiration seems to come from the void in the universe.”

“I often think that I am living in the past, but I also wonder if the public in general is not doing the same thing and just not being aware of it.”

Possible Reality includes shares samples of Loarca’s most recent paintings. Loarca presently is battling cancer. This book may be purchased at https://www.createspace.com/4213862?ref=1147694&utm_id=6026.
