Patrons of Encinitas Parks (PEP) is a non-profit 501-C3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1984 by active residents of Encinitas who were passionate about working with City staff to develop, improve and preserve our community’s active and passive parklands. PEP and the City of Encinitas executed a Memorandum of Understanding by which PEP is recognized as an official fund raising arm for the City of Encinitas. Public/Private partnerships such as this not only serve as an example for future generations but are absolutely essential given today’s economic reality. PEP offers Encinitas community members an opportunity to continue the tradition of supporting parks and recreational activities that play a major role in the quality of life we all enjoy. Learn how you can get involved by visiting their website at www.patronsofencinitasparks.org.

We are happy to bring you our Fall-Winter Recreation Guide

brochure. Inside you will find a wide variety of specialty camps, sports, including our popular pee-wee soccer and youth basketball leagues, as well as hundreds of classes and activities. You’re sure to find something of interest to you and your family. Also, be sure to attend our Feeling Fit Festival on August 25, and don’t miss Stars in the Park Movie Nights in September and October and the Encinitas Holiday Parade in December.

The Parks and Recreation Department is also thrilled to break ground in late summer/early fall on a couple of major projects, including the 44 acre Encinitas Community Park and renovations and improvements at Moonlight Beach (see the back cover for details).

I hope that you’ll get out and enjoy your parks, beaches and trails, and I hope to see you in one of our recreation programs or at an event. As we like to say at Encinitas Parks and Rec, “Be a Part of It!” Always feel free to connect with us; our staff is here to help you find just the right program or activity for you.

Thousands of people will be on floats and in bands with tens of thousands more cheering them on as the 2012

Encinitas Holiday Parade rolls along Coast Highway 101 on Saturday, December 1st. The parade begins at 5:30 PM. It

is preceded by a 5:00 PM treelighting ceremony at the Lumberyard (near Starbucks coffee).

“Come on out and cheer as the nearly 100 parade floats and entries make their way down the Parade route on Historic Coast Highway 101. The Parade has been a 50 year plus Encinitas tradition for Encinitas area residents,” Recreation Supervisor Nick Buck states, “one of the great things about the Parade is that we have something like 3,000 children IN the Parade. That means that we have all of those parents, grandparents and friends along the Parade route enjoying the show and showing their support. It’s a great event and the perfect way to kick off the Holidays in Encinitas.”

The Encinitas Holiday Parade Committee will select this year’s Parade Theme and Grand Marshal this fall. Be sure to check the Parks and Recreation website or follow us on
