Patrons of Encinitas Parks (PEP) is a non-profit 501-C3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1984 by active residents of Encinitas who were passionate about working with City staff to develop, improve and preserve our community’s active and passive parklands. PEP and the City of Encinitas executed a Memorandum of Understanding by which PEP is recognized as an official fund raising arm for the City of Encinitas. Public/Private partnerships such as this not only serve as an example for future generations but are absolutely essential given today’s economic reality. PEP offers Encinitas community members an opportunity to continue the tradition of supporting parks and recreational activities that play a major role in the quality of life we all enjoy. Learn how you can get involved by visiting their website at www.patronsofencinitasparks.org.

A ll of us in the Parks and Recreation Department couldn’t be more excited

about the summer season. For 2012, we offer more than 40 unique summer camps, as well as hundreds of classes and activities, so you’re sure to find something of interest to you and your family. Also, don’t miss the Pet Health Expo in June and terrific Sunday Summer Concerts by the Sea at Moonlight Beach in July and August. I feel honored and privileged to be a part of providing acres of parks, beaches, trails and hundreds of recreation programs in Encinitas for all to enjoy. Parks have been my life. As a kid I have great memories of spending the majority of the day at my neighborhood park playing sports, riding a bicycle, picnicking with my family and socializing with friends. Parks, beaches, trails and recreation services make life better now and in the future by providing:• Access to the serenity and inspiration of nature• Outdoor space to play and exercise• Facilities for self-directed and organized recreation• Positive alternatives for youth which help lower crime

and mischief• Activities that facilitate social connections, human

development, therapy, the arts and lifelong learningThis summer, I hope that you’ll get out and enjoy your parks, beaches and trails, and I hope to see you in one of our recreation programs or at an event. As we like to say at Encinitas Parks and Rec, “Be a Part of It!” Always feel free to connect with us; our staff is here to help you find just the right program or activity for you.
