Ontology and SKAC
• Evolutionary Theory - “The Modern Synthesis”; 1942 by Julian Huxley
• SQMG discovered in 2008 that information sharing is still a problem
• Main reason = poor communication• Internet = enormous source of information but
hardly and not efficiently used
Ontology or Knowledge SharingThe second wave of evolutionary Synthesis
Ontology
or Knowledge Sharing
Problem of Lack of InformationThe answer to the problem is …

What happens with research? Results & Conclusions• Results are devastating
• Only about 2.5% is implemented
• Different reasons• Not attractive anymore• Commercially unattractive (business case)• Protection patents to freeze application
What happens with research?Detailed reasons• Lack of budget ≈ 50%
• No more interest ≈ 20%
• Bad or dissatisfying results ≈ 30%
Conclusion:
Overload to fill archives and Internet Databases!
Using the Internet as a MediumInternet and Public Databases• Internet offers access to publications worldwide
• Most research is stored in On-line Databases
• Looks to be perfect Medium for Ontology
• Massive databases danger of saturation
• Adapted filtering to be applied to enhance efficiency
Using the Internet as a MediumInternet and Ontology• Saturation to be avoided
• Adapted filtering to get efficient access
• Research as a source for others to be used
• Interlinking with other research fields
• Final result is make research accessible for all to view in an efficient way.
Using the Internet as a Medium Prof. Guy Van Elsacker Proposes for biochemical researchThe
HUMAN METABOLE DATABASE (HDMB)
Alberta University, Edmonton
Alberta, Canada
Human Metabole DatabaseInformation available
• Combination of Chemical, Clinical, Biochemical and Genetic Data
• 1500 Drug Database Entries (Drug bank)
• 2000 Food Database Entries (Food bank)
Human Metabole DatabaseSome specific Information
> 6500 metabolite entries including water and lipid soluble metabolites regarded as abundant (>mm) or relatively rare (<1Nm)
> 1500 proteins (DNA) linked to metabolite entries.
MetaboCard entry contains more than 100 data fields with 65% devoted to chemical/clinical data and the remaining 35% linked to enzymatic or biochemical data.
Links to other databases (KEGG, PubChem, MetaCyc ChEBl, PDB, Swiss-Prot and GenBank) and a variety of structures and pathways viewing programs (applets).
Organizing CooperationIdentification of your research fellows• We propose co-operation with Institutes of
Czech Academy of Sciences & Charles University
• Scientists are unaware of work of other researchers in related fields and departments
• Even unaware of research with applications in their own fields
Organizing CooperationChange habits and revolutionizing cooperationFurther proposals and advice
Learning how to work together as a whole, in order to advance
and expand our scientific research.
Organizing CooperationOur small step will become a giant leap …• SQMG and APraCom started initiative in 2008
• First Round Table Conferences (RTC) with participants of Czech Research Institutes and Universities in 2009
• The main goal is to combine research in order to fight cancer. Other fields can be implamented
Cooperate to ShareA giant leap in … sharing informationProf. Guy Van Elsacker proudly announces
Sharing Knowledge Against Cancer
or
SKAC
SKAC is just starting …SQMG and APraCom organized RTC’s in 2009• The first RTC’s with participants of Czech Research
Institutes and Universities were held at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Prague
• Participation by many representatives of Research Units and European Organizations
• From 2012 the coordination will be done by: Prof. Guy Van Elsacker – (www.elsacker.org)
The future of the SKAC projectsGenetic Manipulation and
DNA fingerprintingElsacker.org goals are:
Create novel foods containing active compounds to fight cancer using GM and DNA fingerprinting
Further research to the use of Hyperthermia introduced by Infra Red and at the same time blocking the action of heat shock proteins (HSP’S) which protect cancer cells against heat.
SKAC project Research Elsacker.org is also focusing on …• Purple tomatoes with a higher content of Lycopenes
• Super Broccoli with enhanced Sulphoraphane and Diindolylmethane (upcoming),
• Yellow cellery- DNA-fingerprinted with the Ashitaba (from Japan), with an enormous potential of active anti-cancer compounds (currently being studied).
SKAC project – Plan for 2012 Elsacker.org is planning …• More RTC’s with various scientists and research groups
• Expand the action to other countries
• Introduce the SCIBURDI Project in order to bring science and business under one roof*
• Initiate the creation of Spin-off firms
*SCIBURDI Project hosted by APRACOM (www.APraCom.cz)
