Education. Just one word yet implicits much. Education is such a vast world. About everyone has seen the changes taking place from the past to the present and the changes that still continue. Schools are sprouting up everywhere. Yet neither the oldest nor the newest are completely flawless. Time has changed education much. The subjects, the main topics remain unchanged. Just more divisions were developed underneath and are developing. Education has begun ever since life started. It has grown to become a part of us. The whole of the present was built on this basis and the future too is dependent on education.

One can educate or be educated anywhere. Education is basically learning. From experience too comes education. It makes youngsters wise and elders wary. Oil crisis, water shortage, pollution, global warming, teenage abduction, tobacco and alcohol addiction etc... are the crisis of today. Many fear that the future generation will face even worse complications than that of today. Let’s hope that perhaps education could be the key, the light, and the source of inspiration from the folds of history. That is why the future needs education. And to maintain that we need you. Parents, don’t teach your children. Don’t show them the right or wrong path. Just provide the support and let them know that you are there to watch their back. Provide them situations to learn and experience, yet don’t teach them directly, because I believe – experience is the best teacher.

Education not only has to keep pace with today, but create structures flexible enough to adapt for an unknown tomorrow. The world will be a very different place when we die than it was when we were born. The industrial era has changed into a knowledge/concept-based economy that is dependent not on physical labour but into a need for innovation, problem-solving and adaptability. Now different approaches to work, productivity and prosperity require new approaches to learning, schools and education.

Today’s students, like me and many others are the first generation to

grow up with digital technology and this technology has changed the way

we view knowledge, access information and relate to our world. Education

needs to both capture the possibilities for deep learning that new

technologies can offer and prepare us to cope with the amount and speed

of information at our fingertips.

The population and immigration has increased so much that we cannot

even imagine, and we have moved away from large interactions with

community and extended family into nuclear or single-parent family units.

More women are in the workforce, and media, advertising and

consumerism have exploded as major societal influences.

Before the year 1824, when the first railway engine took to the tracks, no

human being (or piece of information) had ever gone faster than the

speed to be had on the back of a horse. Compare that with today’s

realities for the nearly 6.5 billion people who travel and share information

around the world. We have not only become globally connected – on a

minute by minute basis – but globally interdependent in solving world

issues that threaten our well-being. The challenge now is for communities

to begin building new organizations for learning that handle both the skills

of the past, and enables the understanding and coordination of constant

change, life-long learning, diversity, and complexity.
