Strategy About Canada
Education – Over the years 5000 years ago - About survival 2000 years ago - About knowledge 500 years ago - About Supremacy 200 years ago - About Industry
Geographic boundaries played a very important roleDefinition and scope of education changed with increased interaction between people
Now - Common & Individual good & global peace
A Global experience not just important but necessary
INDIA – Over Time PAST - 1977 – India despaired
40- 45% below poverty line (earn less than Rs 20 a day) 93% had annual household income less than Rs 90,000 p.a. or
less than 250/day Very corrupt society No hope, Unhappy people, No future - Immigration & Brain
Drain PRESENT - 2007 - Consumer Society
27.5% below poverty line A new Indian middle class emerged. 50 mill people or 5% of the
population Mood – Optimistic, Confident. Young middle class Indians happiest in the
world
FUTURE - 2027 – India Income levels expected to triple. Average real household
income to grow to Rs 318,896 583 million – middle class of 41% of the population
300 million (app) will rise above the poverty line 23 million Indians among the wealthiest citizens (more than

International Education – PAST International Student Recruitment Classrooms with few students from
different countries (either brightest or the richest)
Faculty exchanges with a 1 or 2 top institutions
Development & Aid related projects in the 3rd world countries
High motivation for students for better academic opportunities and quality of life.
Very few thought of returning High returns balanced out the
negatives – alien culture, no family
International Education Today Diversity on Campus Good Business Encourages tolerance and understanding Impacts Policy and Trade Impacts future politics Academic Opportunities and Quality of
life – the gap reducing. The returns increasingly does not justify
uprooting yourself Translates into students coming back after 5-
10 yrs. Dual citizenships
Indian Summer Many of the years since independence
were ones of promises undelivered. But India is beginning to live up to its dreams – perhaps encouraging neighbours to emulate its success.
