Term 3 Week 1 - Edition 11 Friday 26 July 2019
Principal’s Report
Welcome back to term 3, hopefully everyone had a chance over
the break to spend some quality time on themselves and their
families. This term promises to provide many new and exciting
experiences for our students, along with plenty of time to
continue the excellent teaching and learning that takes place
each and every day at our school.
Athletics Carnival
What a start to this term for all of our energetic and enthusiastic
kids! Wednesday saw our field competitors travel to Kingscliff to
compete in the Tweed Small School carnival. Thursday saw our
whole school return for the full day track and novelty events. It
was just so good to see how our kids threw themselves into the
events. They cheered each other, they supported all the
competitors, and they gave an excellent account of how
Duranbah students always do the very best they can. There
were plenty of ribbons on show at the end of the day, but the
most pleasing thing was the level of participation and the efforts
of all of our kids. A huge thanks to all of the parents and families
who were able to come along and join us for the day. We
definitely do not take your support for granted.
Green Room
Over the holidays our Green
Room got an overhaul. It’s
now…………green! Many thanks
to the generous time provided by
all who gave up their family time
for our school. Thanks to Kathy
Rockwell for coordinating the
activity along with Mrs Badger
and Ms Robyn Green.

We welcome a couple of new faces to our staff this term. Mr
Ash has taken up new opportunities elsewhere, and so we

contribution to our school. He began lessons this week and
will continue next Wednesday. We also welcome Ms Trish
Guthrie-Watt to Duranbah PS in the capacity of piano/
keyboard teacher and also vocal/ choir. She will begin lessons
in week 3.
Sport
Sport this term is tennis, with Shannyn and Amber from
Kingscliff tennis club. This will take place each Friday before
the second break.
Passion Projects
Mrs Field is busily putting together the next round of Passion
Projects and is in need of another couple of volunteers who
may be able to assist by taking a small group each Friday from

Enrichment Maths Workshop
We have invited “Fun With Maths Pty Ltd” to present a
Maths Incursion at our school on Monday 29 July.
They offer a range of creative, problem solving activities
suitable for your child’s level of maths. All their ac-
tivities use “hands-on” materials to develop under-
standing and solve “real-life” problems. The chil-
dren work in pairs and can move around .
The activities use “Thinking Mathematical” strategies
from the new National Syllabus and previous NAPLAN
test questions.
