I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing Easter break. Last week I attended the Far North Coast Principals meeting at Muwilllumbah and this week the North Coast Principals Conference at Coffs Harbour. The main issues discussed at these meetings were the restructure of the Department of Education and Communities, the introduction of the LMBR administration software and the introduction of the new English Syllabus next year. Our staff will be undertaking intensive training in the new syllabus throughout this year ready for its implementation next year. As always our focus is the quality of teaching and learning that takes place at our school for the benefit of all our students. Due to the introduction of new NSW Syllabus documents, the Department has granted schools an additional school development day in Term 2 to enable staff to focus on preparation for syllabus implementation in 2014. Please note on your calendars that students do not return until Wednesday 1 May. The school photographer visited the school today and took whole school, family and individual photos. PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

As week 8 draws to a close we have a short week next week before Easter and then only two weeks until the end of Term 1. I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing Easter break. WORKING TOGETHER DRAMA Over the past 4 weeks the students in years 3-6 have been highly engaged in creating and performing a drama with an emphasis on solving problems as part of their HSIE unit Working Together. The unit provided a sequence of learning experiences in practical aspects of communication, self-control and self-image by students selecting character specific props and devising the drama using narrative in collaboration with their peers. Student participation has led to students learning to ‘Work Together’ by finding the best way for each member of the group to contribute, listen to and accept the viewpoints and contributions of others. The Drama has been an important tool for preparing students to live in a world that is increasingly TEAM-ORIENTED rather than hierarchical. It is with great anticipation that the primary students hope to show their finished dramas to the K-2 students at the School’s Friday’s weekly assembly. Cheers Mark Baker

WORKING TOGETHER RESEARCH TASK This week the 3-6 Class has been given a research task. The task is to be completed in class time and involves the students researching and producing an information report on a facility or service provided by the Tweed Shire Council. The class will be using the Tweed Shire Council Website as an information source. To scaffold this task the students will be engaged in the ‘Information Process’ of

Defining, Locating, Selecting, Organising, Presenting and Evaluating.

LIBRARY Students are reminded that Library borrow-ing and returning is on Thursday for all stu-dents. All students require a library bag or plastic bag to transport their books. Any overdue books need to be returned to the red return box inside the library. Books that have been damaged also need to be re-turned to ensure the library catalogue is up to date.

NUMERACY TIP

Visit the “$2 shop” for cards, dice, dominos and board games. Not only are they better than lollies and last

longer but they provide a great opportunity for parents to play some practical stimulating games with their

child.
