Term 3 Week 3 - Edition 12 Friday 9 August 2019
Principal’s Report
Week 3 and everyone is whistling while they work! Being in our
classrooms, you would feel the energy and the enthusiasm our
students have for their learning. With so many opportunities
available for our kids, it’s great to see how they make the most of
these.
P&C Meeting
We will be hosting our school’s P&C meeting this Tuesday at
1:45pm for anyone interested. Kathy is currently compiling the
Agenda, so if there is anything you’d like included, let her know or
simply drop a message into the office.
Creative Arts Camp
Seven of our students have an excellent opportunity next week to
participate in and enjoy the North Coast Creative Arts Camp at
Lennox Head. These students were fortunate enough to be
selected after an application process which saw over 60 students
from across the state miss out. We really look forward to hearing
how they enjoyed and developed their music and creative arts
skills.
SRC
Mrs Jones has got our Semester 2 SRC (Student Representative
Council) program up and running, with the recent meeting
formatting lunchtime groups. These groups revolve around
student interest, are coordinated by the student leaders and
provide extra activities for our students during break time. Well
done to these leaders and thank you to Mrs Jones for driving this.
Staffing
We welcome back Ms Myler next week after some personal
leave. In doing this we thank Mrs Field for capably stepping into
the teaching role in K/1 and also Miss Valenti for doing so in the
4/5/6 class.
Music Program
This week saw our music program resume at full capacity. Mr
Mueller with drums on Mondays, Ms Guthrie-Watts with piano/
keyboard and also vocals on Tuesday, and Mr Hawkins with
Guitar/Uke and ensemble on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There
are spaces in all of these programs for any students who wish to
learn these instruments, just speak with Mrs Ramsden in the
Office.
Athletics Carnival
Today (Friday) saw five of our students travel to Murwillumbah for
the District Athletics Carnival. We don’t know how they went at
this point, but we look forward to hearing their results and are
sure they will do the very best they can. Thanks to Ms Kirk for
coordinating the travel and participation for our students.
Passion Projects
Next week will be the last session of Passion Projects for this cycle. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered this cycle, the kids are really loving it! In week 5, following this cycle,
we will have the third round of the ‘creative kids program’, where 4/5/6 will travel to Robina for an Apple Store masterclass and K-3 will enjoy Visual Arts workshops here at school. Thank you to Mrs
Field for coordinating the Passion Projects again.

Spring Collective
Last weekend saw our Norfolk Island fundraising group
coordinate the ‘Spring Collective’ market day at Casuarina
Hockey fields. There were many and varied stalls available
and lots and lots of locals and visitors took advantage of what
was on offer. Many thanks to the P&C who hosted a book stall
and also the parents of our school who were able to share
their wares with our community. A big thanks to Annie for
coordinating the event and the many parents and families who
supported her in doing so.
Chicken Coop
Our plans for a school chicken coop are coming together
nicely. The concrete pad for the coop is being poured next
week and the working bee to put it all together is being
planned at this upcoming P&C meeting. This is yet another
example of our community helping our school, and so many
people will contribute, but a special mention so far to Matt
Camps and Crofton Needham for their assistance thus far in
the project. Thanks also to Annie for overseeing the project.
Hopefully everyone has a great weekend and enjoys some quality down-time.
