Dmitry Korkin is an outstandingcoach of the XXth century

Champions’ coach• Dmitry Korkin is recognized as an

outstanding coach of the XXth century in Yakutia. I think he is the person who made a lot of contribution to the development of sport in the republic. Dmitry Korkin was born on 5th September,1928 in the village of Kytanakh of Churapcha district. His childhood was severe: he was orphaned at 9 and endured all horrors of the hardest work and life of churapchinsky settlers in the far distant Bulun district in the north of the republic.

• In 1956 after graduating from the Leningrad State pedagogical Institute after A.I. Herzen he was appointed a teacher of the Russian language and literature in Ozhulun seven-year school of Churapcha district.

• Here he opened the first club of freestyle wrestling. He organized the same club in Churapcha school that was located 12 km from Ozhulun. Three times a week he went on foot there and back and gave lessons. So he started his teaching and coaching. And the young people of the district were enthusiastically engaged in this new sport.

school was opened on the initiative of Korkin and it became the base for preparation of high-class athletes. The coach- enthusiast with his pupils constructed gyms, training equipments of his own design. And in 20 years, due to his persistent titanic work and talent, Korkin achieved outstanding success, young athletes call him both the father, the coach, and the teacher.

• Persistent work of the coach, his studying of childrens’ potential, new experiments, hard training brought high results.

republic who is equal to him by the achieved results. D. Korkin is one the contemporary greatest coaches because in the extreme conditions of the North he trained 4 Honored Masters of Sports of the Soviet Union, 13 Masters of Sports of International class, 175 Masters of Sports of the USSR. D. Korkin brought up Champions of the USSR, of Europe, of the world, and finally Champions of the Olympic games.

Alexander Ivanov, Vasily Gogolev, Vyacheslav Karpov, Nikolay Zakharov, Illarion Fedoseyev, Semen Makarov, Vladimir Androsov and others are the pride of the nation, they made Yakutia famous not only all over the country, but also in the whole world. They awakened national consciousness of all people. Thanks to free-style wrestling the whole world started talking not only about the Yakut athletes, but also about the whole Yakutia. Today in Yakutia national championships are held.

Y.A.Shakhmuradov worked as the head coach of the USSR, he wrote: "The name of Korkin is well known in our country. The person who devoted all conscious life to wrestling in Yakutia and in the Soviet Union. Perhaps, he is the only trainer in the country who in short term, in the permafrost region, could train outstanding athletes such as R. Dmitriev, P. Pinigin, A.Ivanov... “

• D. Korkin is awarded the title of Honored coach of the USSR, of the Yakut Republic, Honoured teacher of Yakutia and many other titles, medals.

• Today the All-Russian tournament in memory of the outstanding trainer-teacher with fulfillment of the title of "The Master of Sports of Russia" is annually held.

• His name remains in the history of free-style wrestling of Yakutia, Russia forever and more.
