Principal’s report (continued)

Allowah DayOn Thursday 4 April our Stage 3 Aboriginal students attended the 10th anniversary of Allowah Day. This was celebrated at Shaws Creek Aboriginal Place within Yellomundee Regional Park.

The day featured a welcoming smoking ceremony, drumming, traditional indigenous culture demonstration, painting, bush care and an Aboriginal art workshop.

Gold card morning teaWe have many great things happening at Bligh Park Public School over the next two weeks. With such a busy end of term and with special events such as our cross country, ANZAC service, gala days and the Easter hat parade, we have made the decision to move this term’s Gold Card morning tea to the beginning of next term as a one-off event. We hope this will help make it a special day for you and your child that is not caught up in the hectic end-of-term excitement. The invitations will still be presented this term and we are very proud of these students who have worked so hard throughout the first term to achieve this recognition. Congratulations and we look forward to seeing you at the Gold Card morning tea on Wednesday 8 May 2019.

Staff updateMr Ellis will be leaving us at the end of Term 1 and Mr Clifton will continue the teaching and learning program for 2K. I would like to thank Mr Ellis for the contributions he has made to our school and wish him all the best for the future.

I would like to congratulate our students on a very successful and productive start to the school year. We have enjoyed swimming carnivals, information sessions, meet the teacher afternoons and the election of our 2019 SRC. Our school really is a very busy place!

A big thank you to our wonderful staff for their hard work throughout the term and to all those parents who assist the school in so many different ways.

I wish all of our students and their families a wonderful holiday and look forward to your safe return ready for another action-packed term of learning.

Take care,

Joan Westerweller

Earth hour schools day

O n Friday 29 March, the students from Bligh Park Public School participated in

the earth hour initiative to promote sustainability and show our care for the environment. They wore green mufti clothes and tried to use as little electricity in their classrooms as possible by turning off the smartboards and opening the blinds instead of using lights. 4L were our power patrol for the day and checked how each class were doing.

We wish Bindi 6F all the best as she

represents our region at the NSWPSSA State Swimming

Championships on 11 and 12 April.

Congratulations to KB, 2C, 2K, 4L

and 6F for having the best results on

the day.

Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2020Schools with opportunity classes cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the basis of the opportunity class placement test results and school assessment. The opportunity class placement test will be held on Wednesday 31 July 2019.

If you would like to have your Year 4 child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2020, you need to do so soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 in a printed application information booklet at https://education.nsw.gov.au/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5. The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. No late applications will be accepted.

There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library or contact the school and we will be able to assist. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the selective schools unit via the above link for assistance after 30 April 2019.

Each year the P&C organise an Easter raffle as part of their fundraising.

We are requesting donations of Easter eggs so that we can organise this raffle. Please help us by donating some Easter eggs. We ask that your child/children bring the eggs to school and give them to their class teacher and a member of the P&C will collect them and create wonderful Easter baskets ready for our draw at the Easter parade on Thursday 11 April.

Thank you in advance from our P&C.

in the semi-final!

Miss Morrison and Miss Khalifeh are extremely proud of your achievements, good sportsmanship

and respectful behaviour on the day. Well done!

tudents enjoyed the opportunity of viewing the Three Sisters prior to heading over to Scenic World. At Scenic World, our students boarded the steepest railway in

the world and dropped down into the rainforest canopy, where they began their bush walk and mapped the different sights they saw along the bush trail.

They saw many different types of native trees and evidence of the mining history that was part of the Blue Mountains. Our students were also lucky enough to view some different bird species along the trail and even spotted a lyrebird!

Then it was a cable car ride back up to Scenic World where they were able to have a panoramic view of the Blue Mountains environment. A wonderful day was had exploring the Blue Mountains.

On Thursday 28 March our Stage 2 students embarked on a very exciting excursion to
