The first 100 Years1914-2014

Lovejoy Baptist Church

Lovejoy Baptist Church II Rev. Carey Ingram

View of Lovejoy Baptist Church. Founded in 1914, the church continues to expand in the Light of Faith.

Founded in 1914, Lovejoy Baptist Church celebrated this year its 100th anniversary. The Reverend Carey Ingram devotedly sat

with us and told us more about his history, the history he has with the Church and the mission carried out by Lovejoy through its members.Ingram’s story Born and raised in Rome, GA, Rev. In-gram has been pastor at Lovejoy for 27 years. Since his arrival in 1987, he has li-censed seven young men to be ministers.

Raised primarily by his grandmother who was a churchgoer, there was no choice but to go to church in his younger years. “I would tell her, Grandma I got a headache,” she would say “take an aspirin, we’re going to church.” “Grandma I got to turn in a paper today, I got-ta study,” she would say “Sure! Take an aspi-rin, we’re going to church,” Rev. Ingram said. For Rev. Ingram, church became his life in Christ but also his social life. He would do everything at church because it became his home. Eventually, Rev. Ingram met his childhood sweetheart, Judy at church and they have been married for 39 years.

During his younger years, all his surroundings claimed he was going to be a preacher one day. After graduating from Shorter University and inspired by people like his grandmother, he decided to go into ministry. After 27 years with the Church, Rev. Ingram says the church and its members live by their name, Lovejoy.

The practice at the Church is to love each other and to be there for each other. For the ‘joy’ part, Rev. In-gram assures that Love-joy has one of the most dynamic choirs and musi-cians in Northwest Georgia.Celebration of 100 years Lovejoy Church celebrat-ed its 100th anniversary this past August. To honor the event, the Church held three services instead of two services on that day. A special guest was also pres-ent to celebrate the Church.“Reverend Darrell Shaw from New Corinth Mis-sionary Baptist Church in Euharlee, GA, did an awesome job of defin-ing the Church and I pray

now what God has called on us to do,” Rev. Ingram said. In commemoration of the anni-versary, the Church also decid-ed to create a book filled with stories, images and memories of the past 100 years. “Also, the Church asked their members to give a “cup of coffee’s worth” to an extra offering each week.

We raised about $25,000 thatwe are going to use at the endof the year to make improve-ments around the church. The church has several pro-grams to reach out and help the community across Rome, GA, such as a drug awareness program and a food and cloth-ing pantry. The Church also has a dance ministry, a praise and worship team, and a mime ministry. Every fourth Sunday is the Youth Sunday at Lovejoy. Rev. Ingram has been chosen to serve as Grand Marshall for the 2014 Rome Christmas Parade.

Newcomer Profiles

Both from small towns in Missouri, Logan and Bo Kirchhoff met in college and got engaged when Logan was finishing up his managers program.

Bo was not on the path of management in college. However, she does not regret her decision one second considering that she loves working with her husband and her passions, which are clothes and fashion. Buckle timeline

Logan – “When I went to school for management, I found an internship with Buckle the Summer before I graduated from college. I worked with Buckle that Summer and worked part-time my last semester. After, I went into the managers program because I loved it.”

Why Rome, Ga.Logan –“I think WE picked Rome, but Rome chose us

too. I’m from a very small town of about 400 people and Bo’s town does not have a population. I knew I didn’t want to go anywhere big to manage; it’s just not my thing. My culture is small towns. Even though I can get along with anyone, it’s the type of people I love being around the most. When this store came open, we thought it was a good opportunity.”

Bo- “We’re not used to big cities. We are used to college towns. I could not see myself doing something away from Logan and not following my true passion with fashion. I have loved working here since the beginning. Now I am an assistant in training.” Buckle Experience

Logan –“If you want clothing, you can expect to find everything. We are a denim specialty store with so many fits. ‘A jean for everyone’ is our mission. We also have our specialty brand that always follows the trends.” Buckle not only carries denim, but a wide variety of shirts, blouses, outerwear and accessories. “The day is rare when I’m not head to toe Buckled out.”

Bo-“With everything that we offer in the store, we could literally cover somebody head to toe if they walked in wanting a complete new outfit.” What do you think of Rome so far?

Logan –“We love it. We have made friends. It was overwhelming at first working from open to close. It was a pretty easy transition. We have our friends and our usual places where we go out and eat.”

From Missouri to Rome, Logan and Bo Kirchhoff have seized the opportunity to open their dream store and follow their true passions: managing and fashion.

Joyeux Nöel from Paris

Aurelie Gaborit de Montjou (center) is a senior communica-tions major at Shorter University and has been an intern with the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce and Q-102 radio.

The Champs-Elysees by night.

Aurelie interned at the Chamber during her last semester at Shorter University. The Cham-ber staff has benefited immensely through Aurelie’s hard work and dedication to each task she was charged with, especially this edition of Momen-tum. As a true Parisian, we asked Aurelie to share her Christmas memories and traditions with our readers. Movies don’t lie; Paris is truly a beautiful, magical city. Not only is it an iconic city, it’s my home. The city is beautiful all throughout the year, but if I had to chose my favorite season, it would be the winter, accompanied by Christmas. Christmas in Paris is nothing like I have ever seen anywhere else. I love numerous things about Christmas at home. Even when it gets dark in the evening, there are so many lights displayed that the city comes to life when the Christmas lights start to shine. For this special oc-casion that is Christmas, the boutiques and stores will display their best Christmas decorations and lights. People literally gather in front of window dis-plays in order to have a chance to see the animated Christmas spectacular that stores offer. One of the unique things to do in Paris during Christmas is to walk along the Champs-Elysées. This is where the Christmas market takes place all throughout the month of December. People from all around travel to Paris to have a chance to see it. It stretches all the way up the avenue and all the booths are so cute.

A hot chocolate is a must have. How-ever, my favorite thing during Christmas is the family life. Because my fam-ily is so spread out and busy all year, Christ-mas is always the one time that everyone will be gathered in the same place. Christmas is a big event to organize and is always a mas-sive chaos during that time, and I LOVE it!! It is usually right at the start of December that everyone will email and call each other in panic to know what we are doing. Where are we doing Christmas? What time are we go-ing to mass? Who is bringing what for dinner? Who is getting what for Christmas? Are we going to see an Opera? Are we going to the movies? So many questions to answer and so much to organize. Once Christmas is finally here, is it a joyful moment where the fam-ily gets to sit down together and talk about things and catch up on each other’s lives. Af-ter enjoying a nice Christmas break together, we all resume our busy lives, until next year.
