YEAR OF THE MONKEYLUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS
According to the Lunar Zodiac calendar, this lunar new year welcomes in the FIRE Monkey. For this
special day, our Mandarin and Vietnamese Modern language departments show off some of the
language and cultural skills they learned through songs, dances, and other great performances. This
year’s assembly had a special guest performance from the Vietnam Bamboo Ensemble who perform all
over the world, including as representatives of Vietnam to the World Expo in Milan, Italy.
People born in a year of the Monkey are witty, intelligent, and have a magnetic personality. Personality
traits, like mischievousness, curiosity, and cleverness, make them very naughty. Monkeys are masters of
practical jokes, because they like playing most of the time. Though they don’t have any bad intentions,
their pranks sometimes hurt the feelings of others. Monkeys are fast learners and crafty opportunists.
100 DAYS, 100 SOCKS!LEARNING ABOUT ‘100’ IN RECEPTION & GRADE 1
As part of our 100 day celebration, we challenged our
two classes to see if they could collect 100 pairs of socks.
As part of who we are at Concordia, serving others, we
felt we wanted to donate those socks to children that
didn’t have socks. On Friday, as representative from
Friendship House came to receive our donation and tell
us a little about the children there. We were able to help
139 children have nice warm toes!

Our Concordia National Honor Society
(NHS) and National Junior Honor Society
(NJHS) members are on a quest to beautify
the Friendship House orphanage. Over a
series of several visits, they hope to be able
to paint portions of the common areas and
spend time with the children living there.
Here is a taste of their first visit.
