MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

GETTING DIRTY IN SOCIAL STUDIES CLASS

It is not every day that students get to really dig deep into their studies but this is exactly what the Concordia Middle School sixth graders had a chance to do while learning about the Mohenjodaro people, whose civilization was discovered in what is now modern day Pakistan. The Indus Valley civilization was entirely unknown until 1921, when excavations revealed the cities of Harappa and Mohenjo Daro.

This mysterious culture emerged nearly 4,500 years ago and thrived for a thousand years, profiting from the highly fertile lands of the Indus River floodplain and trade with the civilizations of nearby Mesopotamia.

Students used a mixture of mud and water along with other traditional bonding materials to recreate the mud homes in their own classrooms. HOUR OF CODING AT CONCORDIA

Dec 9-15 was named the Week of Coding around the world to encourage young people to consider computer science for the future.

On Dec 10th, Concordia hosted an hour of coding for anyone interested. For some students, this was the first exposure to coding language and the series of games and activities done during the hour of coding made it an interesting introduction.

FRIDAY, JANAURY 10- NEW PARENT WELCOME COFFEE AT CONCORDIAParents are invited to stop by for a social cup of coffee and welcome new Concordia Parents to the school. No need to register or bring anything, just show up on campus and enjoy a nice warm cup of something warm and mingle with other parents. Coffee morning starts at 10am and usually lasts about one hour.

STUDENTS CREATE SERVICE BOOKIn an effort to raise awareness about Concordia student service learning projects, the Grade 6 and Grade seven students have written, shot photos, and edited a school service book. This publication explains the all-school efforts starting with the Concordia Walk-A-Thon, the purchase and filling of backpacks with school and medical supplies, and the cultural exchange and delivery of backpacks to students in Phu Tho Province by Concordia kids.

A copy of the book will soon be available on the school website, so make sure to take a look coming soon!
