Hymn No. 423: ............................................tune:(congregation standing)

Invocation...........................................................................................Clive Wilson

Anthem: – Charles J. Hall............SVA & Kettering Choir and BrassThe coming King is at the door who once the cross for sinners bore and in His righteousness aloneHe comes to reign victorious. The signs that show His coming near are fast fulfilling year by year, and soon we’ll hail the glorious dawn of Heaven’s eternal morn. Look not on earth for strife to cease, look not below for joy and peace, until the Savior comes again to banish death and pain. Then in thisglorious earth made new we’ll dwell the countless ages through; this mortal shall immortal be andtime, eternity. The coming King is at the door! Watch ye saints with eyelids waking, see the powersof heaven are shaking; keep your lamps all trimmed and burning, ready for the Lord’s returning. Lo,He comes. Lo, Jesus comes. Lo, He comes, He comes all glorious; Jesus comes to reign victorious,lo, He comes. Yes, Jesus comes. We are nearing home. See the splendor gleaming from the domesafar; see the glory streaming from the gates ajar. There we soon will enter never more to roam.Hear the angels singing we are nearing home! We are nearing home. He is coming, He is comingagain! Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Come, Lord Jesus, Amen.

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 116: 12-19...................................Carolyn JimenezWhat can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me? I'll lift high the cup of salvation—atoast to God! I'll pray in the name of God; I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, and I'll do it togetherwith his people. When they arrive at the gates of death, God welcomes those who love him. Oh, God, hereI am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service! I'm ready to offer the thanksgivingsacrifice and pray in the name of God. I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, and I'll do it in companywith his people, in the place of worship, in God's house. Hallelujah!

Anthem: arr. Wayne Hooper.......................SVA and Kettering ChoirsWhat heavenly music steals over the sea entrancing the senses like sweet melody. ‘Tis the voice of theangels borne soft on the air; for me they are singing their welcome I hear. On the banks of old Jordan, here gazing I stand, and earnestly longing I stretch forth my hand. Send a convoy of angels, dear Jesus,I pray! Let me join that sweet music, come, take me away! Though dark are the waters and rough is thewave, if Jesus permits, the wild surges I’ll brave; for that heavenly music hath ravished me so, I must joinin that chorus I’ll go, let me go! What heavenly music steals over the sea entrancing the senses like sweetmelody. ‘Tis the voice of the angels borne soft on the air; for me they are singing their welcome I hear.

We Learn from God’s WordSermon: ...............................................Pastor Karl Haffner

Hymns: Siyahamba — Sung by allWe are marching in the light of the Lord, we are marching in the light of the Lord…

Choir only: Jesus, still lead on, till our rest be won; and, although the way be cheerless, we will follow, calm and fearless; Guide us by your hand to our Father’s land. If the way be drear, If the foe be near, Letno faithless fears o’er-take us, let not faith and hope forsake us; safely past the foe to our home we go.

Siyahamba — Sung by all

Choir only: When we seek relief from a long felt grief, when temptations come alluring make us patientand enduring; show us that bright shore where we weep no more. Jesus, still lead on, till our rest be won;Heavenly leader, still direct us, still support, console, protect us, till we safely stand in our Father’s land.

WORSHIP NOTES

Participants: Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, presents the second sermon in his 5-week series on“ .” Today we consider how we get God in daily living. Clive Wilson, Kettering College of MedicalArts’ Chaplain, gives the invocation, inviting God to be with us and be worshipped. Carolyn Jimenez, homemaker and Spring Valley Academy choir accompanist, gives today’s scripture reading. David Jimenez, chief operating officer of Catholic Healthcare Partners in Cincinnati, presents the Prayers of the People. DanStevens, our pastor for children’s ministries gives the prayer of thanksgiving and church life. Gail Price, ouroffice/facilities manager, presents the children’s story. Randy Daniel is the program director. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, is the organist for today’s service.

As we gather for worship the , under the direction of Joan Ulloth Dorgan, ringan early American folk song by Ada R. Habershon and Charles Gabriel (who also composed

His Eye Is On the Sparrow). “Can the Circle...” has been recorded by over 30 American folk groups andincorporated into other American Gospel songs, I.e., “Daddy Sang Bass”. Almost everyone has changed thetitle to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”Eric Street, professor of piano at the University of Dayton, plays the Eighteenth Variation from SergeiRachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini.

Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken (Hymn 423) was composed by F. Joseph Haydn and used in hisfamous Emperor String Quartet. The words were written by John Newton, who also wrote Amazing Grace.

The Coming King was composed in 1977 by Steve Hall’s father, Charles Hall, who was chairman of theDepartment of Music at Andrews University for many years. It quotes from several hymns, including TheComing King Is At The Door, Lo, He Comes, and The Golden Morning.

When In Our Music God Is Glorified is a setting of Hymn 32 written in 1972 by Fred Pratt Green, a Methodistminister.

When I Can Read My Title Clear is heard in an arrangement for Brass Ensemble by Dwight Gustafson.

Heavenly Music is a setting of Hymn 452 by Wayne Hooper, who was music director for many years for theVoice of Prophecy radio broadcasts and the editor of our hymnal.

Siyahamba with Jesus Still Lead On were chosen because together they provide a great response to thesermon. Siyahamba is an African marching song. Jesus Still Lead On is a Swedish hymn with a veryappropriate text. Jessie Schaffer is the percussionist.

When I Can Read My Title Clear is an American hymntune, Pisgah, heard in a setting for organ by SanFrancisco organist/composer, Dale Wood.

“Getting God in the Daily Grind”Second message in series:

I. The Birth of Geocaching

II. The Adventure of Godcaching(Matthew 13:44-46) “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a

man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one ofgreat value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”

Scripture teaches that God is an active and communicative being, onewho is present in his creation, ready to come to the aid of those who love himand eager to be in constant communion. Look at the Biblical evidence. Themen and women who discovered God were sheepherders, farmers, vinedressers, servant girls, slaves, fishermen, tax collectors, town whores, the sick and thedying, kings and commanders, religious dignitaries, the intelligentsia. No mattertheir status in life, they were all common folk, everyday people like you and likeme who had uncommon encounters. The almighty intervened in their ordinaryroutines—in the desert, in the field, in the garden, by the seashore, along theriver, in the town, at festivals and celebrations, during high holy days, on theSabbath. He is where his people are, joining them in their daily lives. (KarenMains, , pp. 11-12).

(Deuteronomy 4:29) “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him ifyou look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

(Jeremiah 29:13) “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

III. The Experiment of Godcaching(2 Chronicles 15:12) “They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their

fathers, with all their heart and soul.”
