Music notes: As we gather for worship Martha Jean Hoehn, guest organist from the Vienna, VirginiaAdventist Church, plays Myron Roberts’ that he composed in 1947. Myron Roberts was a prominentorganist in Lincoln, Nebraska during the last half of the 20th century. (Hymn 318) is asetting of William Fischer’s hymn by Anna Laura Page, who is known best for her handbell compositions.
was composed by Dayton composer, Lani Smith. is a setting ofHymn 240.
is a setting of John 3:16 and was originally composed by John Stainer, who wasthe organist-choir director of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. It has been arranged for Male Chorus by PaulMickelson. Kelly Eytcheson has further arranged this anthem to include William Bradbury’s hymn,
This arrangement is dedicated to Tim Reynolds, choir member, for his friendship and service to the musicministry.
(Hymn 221) is one of the great Charles Wesley hymns on the hope of theResurrection. Even though the famous composer, George Handel, wrote a tune for these words, it continuesto be coupled with John Darwall’s tune that he composed for the 148th Psalm.
(Hymn 304) was written by Frederick Faber in 1849. Faber was a member of theRoman Catholic faith, but this hymn shares universal truths about our God and has been sung by bothProtestants and Catholics for over a century. The tune, ,was composed by Henri Federick Hemy, who was organist at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Newcastle. The tune was originally written for apoem titled, .
is from a suite of pieces, composed to feature different families of sound on the organ. The composer, Daniel Gawthrop, is conductor of the Fairfax Symphony in a suburb of Washington D.C. Heworships at the National Cathedral and has composed many compositions for their organ..

"S.D.A. I.D."Second message in series:
I. Our Identity….
A. As an individual
B. As a denomination
"[There is] one unique doctrine of [the Seventh-day Adventist] church. There are otherpeople who believe the Sabbath truth and have held on to that truth for years. There are otherswho believe the same way we do on the condition of man in death. There are others who acceptthe gift of prophecy, and there are many, many people, of almost every denomination, whobelieve in the second coming of Christ. Our only unique contribution to the religious world hasbeen the three angels' messages and the connection they made for us with the sanctuary andjudgment teaching."[i]
II. Our Mandate: Revelation 14:6
"Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel toproclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people"(Revelation 14:6).
A. The eternal gospel to proclaim
B. To every nation, tribe, language and people
III. The Nature of our Calling

2008 Year-End Financial Update
We have experienced again the provision of God evidenced in the ways He financiallyblesses this church. As you know we had some significant financial challenges during 2008.Here is where we stand at year-end:
· Tithe increased 11% over 2007 giving levels.· World Missions increased by 7.5% compared to 2007.· Combined Budget (comprised of our church’s contribution to Spring Valley Acade-
my and general church ministries) ended with a deficit of only $75,000, a great bless-ing considering that the need in October 2008 totaled over $445,000.
· Of the Combined Budget deficit, nearly $40,000 relates to the 2007 budget short fallwith which we began our 2008 stewardship.
We have so much for which to be grateful. Our church members are faithful and generousin giving to the local church. Thank you! What next? In years past Kettering Church’s small year-end operational deficits have beenmet by using investment income from church endowment funds. With the decline in finan-cial markets, we had no investment income in 2008 to apply to the deficit. The church finance committee and board believe the opportunity to raise the remaining$75,000 is an option preferable to “balancing the budget” by allocating limited funds to ourexisting ministries for 2009.During the months of February and March we ask you to prayerfully consider how we, to-gether, may provide an additional contribution to “Combined Budget-2008.” We are creat-ing an additional account to receive gifts for this special purpose. This is an opportunity toerase, what amounts to, budget deficits for 2007 and 2008 – to put these permanently behindus, and to start 2009 with exciting prospects for service and growth. Members of our churchfinance committee, together with our pastoral staff, will review the draft 2009 budget closelyto see whether and where to reshape our budget to 2007 levels. We see this as an importantstewardship option to consider because the investment income probably will not be availableas the cushion we have used for too long.March 28 is our goal date for raising the $75,000 for “Combined Budget-2008.” Whetheryou regularly give or perhaps are a first-time giver at the Kettering Church, please considerhow you can help bring sustained growth and progress to the wonderful ministry opportuni-ties that God is presenting to us every week.
Gratefully,
Church Finance CommitteeKettering Adventist Church Board
