Participants: Ken Knudson, the new Bible teacher and chaplain at Spring Valley Academy, presents today’ssermon. Randy Daniel, an elder, hosts today’s worship. Brendon Prutzman associate pastor, tells theChildren’s story. Holly Batchelder, a senior at Spring Valley Academy and student council president, readstoday scripture lesson. Matthew Adams, chaplain intern at SVA, presents the prayers of the people. JerryTaylor, our minister of worship and music, is the organist for today’s service. The Spring Valley AcademyChoir is under the diretion of Gail Hall.
Earl Cristoff Damallie is being baptized today by Hazel Burns. Earl, the son of Shelley Damallie and thelate Dr. Earl Damallie, is in the sixth grade at Ankeney Middle School in Beavercreek.
As we gather for worship we hear music of César Franck, who is considered the father of the modernorganists. The was included in a set of “Six Pieces for Organ” Franck composed for the dedicationof the new organ at the Tracadero, in Paris, France.
is the opening statement from composer, Mark Hayes’, , a major work thechoirs performed with the composer in November.
(Hymn 1) is an early German hymn that was chosen to be the first hymn in our hymnal.It is appropriate as we start the New Year.
is a setting of hymn 154, considered one of the all time greatesthymns ever written. Isaac Watts authored this hymn in 1707 and based it on Galations 6:14. It is sung to atune that was adapted from a chant. The arranger, Gilbert Martin, is a resident of Dayton and was organistat Christ Methodist Church on Shroyer Road.
both words and music were written by Andraé Crouch in 1976. The choral setting ofthis contemporary Christian tune was made by Jack Schrader, who was the best-selling choral music arrangerfor Hope Music Publishing. He also arranged , which is often sung by our choirs.
is a gospel hymn written in 1707 by Isaac Watts (who also wrote theanthem sung earlier, This hymn originally had 10 stanzas and has been sung to many tunes.The one used today is by American composer, Robert Lowry. This hymn was chosen to follow the sermonabout those who walked with Jesus because it allows us to state that we too are looking forward to being withChrist.
is a major work composed by J. S. Bach to try out new organs. GrantWareham, organist, is an 8th- grade homeschooled student who studies organ with Jerry Taylor.

Healthy habits to practice duringthe flu season:
• Get vaccinated for 2009H1N1 influenza
• Wash your hands often oruse hand sanitizer if soapand water not available.
• Cover your nose and mouthwith a tissue when youcough or sneeze. Throwthe tissue into the trashdirectly afterward. If atissue is not available,cough or sneeze into yourshoulder or elbow.
• Avoid touching your eyes,nose and mouth.
• Avoid close contact withsick people.
• Keep sick children at home.
• If you have flu-likesymptoms (fever with acough or sore throat), stayhome until you are withouta fever for 24 hours,without the use ofmedication.

This Sunday marks the beginning of the annualobservance of National Influenza VaccinationWeek (NIVW). This flu season has presented ourcommunity with a unique challenge to fight anew type of influenza -- the 2009 H1N1 influenzavirus.
The H1N1 flu is a serious disease. The Centersfor Disease Control and Prevention estimates thatbetween mid-April and November 14, 2009, 47million people in the United States were infectedwith the 2009 H1N1 flu, more than 200,000 peo-ple were hospitalized, and over 9,800 peopledied.
Influenza is unpredictable and we do not knowthe likelihood of a future wave of H1N1 flu, butwe do know that vaccination is the mostimportant step in protecting against influenza.Protect yourself, your family and your communityby getting vaccinated.
