Ticket sales are underway for the Douglas County Chamber’s tenth annual Chamber Raffle. The 2015 raffle offers nine chances to win more than $15,000 in prizes!

A total of 350 tickets will be sold at $100 each- giving each ticket holder better than a 1 in 40 chance of winning.

Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of-fice at 6658 Church Street in Douglasville or from Chamber Board members. Drawings will take place in a reverse raffle format on May 28, 2015 at the Centre at Arbor Connection during the Chamber’s monthly Comcast Busi-ness After Hours. You do not have to be pres-ent to win.

In a reverse raffle, the first ticket drawn is not the winner, but will be worth $100 to the ticket holder. The top prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the lucky person holding the 350th, or last ticket drawn, but that’s not all. The 349th ticket drawn is worth $2,000, and the 50th, 100th, 150th, 200th, 250th and 300th tickets drawn will bring ticket holders $500. Tickets may be purchased individually or by groups who want to go together to pur-chase a lucky ticket.

DESCRIBE THE CULTURE OF YOUR HOMELAND. It’s very hard to explain to be honest, you have to be British to truly understand it and even then many Brits would have to think carefully to answer this ques-tion. I think this comes from being an island....perhaps another reason why I enjoyed living in Japan so much since there are so many similarities between the two countries. I was raised to believe our culture is all about fair play and self-respect. We are good winners and good losers. Our culture is all about not complain-ing when the going gets tough, about making the best of it regardless. Plus we take great joy in mocking

ourselves.

HOW MANY LANGUAGES DO YOU SPEAK? Two fluently - English and Japanese

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO MOVE TO DOUGLAS COUNTY? I was looking for a location to open a Pub in a historic downtown area. It is hard to find a building that just grabs you, so when I saw the building which is now the Pub, I knew that it was the ideal location to build a business.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOING BUSINESS IN THE US AND IN YOUR HOME? The biggest difference is that this is considered the land of opportu-nity, and it is totally true. In the US, if you want to do something and no matter who you talk to, people are always willing to offer a solution to anything. There is always a second option. In Japan or England, it was always a flat no. People are more supportive and believe in others than in either Japan or England.

WHAT ONE THING WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OUR MEMBERS TO DEBUNK A MYTH ABOUT YOUR CULTURE? Britain is not a country. While “Britain” or “Great Britain” does refer to the general area, neither of them refers to a country. Britain is a general term for Wales, Scotland and England collectively, while the British Isles also includes Ireland (Northern and the Republic). Plus, the majority of us do not speak like the Queen, it doesn’t rain every day (In fact we have one of the best climates in Europe) and we most cer-tainly do not drink warm beer!! From a business perspective, many of our patrons think that the pubs at home in England are smoky, dark bars. In reality, pubs are the opposite

Marvin Enderle is the Publisher of Newspapers of West Georgia, which publishes the Douglas County Sentinel, Times-Georgian, Paulding Times, Villa Rican, Ha-ralson Gateway-Beacon, Tal-lapoosa Journal and West Georgia Weekly along

with West Georgia Living and Let’s Eat Out magazines. Marvin started his newspa-per career in 1979 as a circulation district manager and has been either a general manager or publisher of local commu-nity newspapers since 1987. Desiring to increase the positive impact community newspapers have on the local economy, Marvin has been active with the Cham-bers of Commerce in the various commu-nities in which he has lived and worked.

The Douglas County Sentinel serves Douglasville and the surrounding area with distribution on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The newspapers and magazines comprising Newspapers of West Georgia serve communities and advertisers along Interstate 20 from Douglas County west into East Alabama with print publications as well as online at douglascountysentinel.com and times-georgian.com.
