People ask me why I came to Owensboro Health and a lot of them believe that it’s because of that brand new hospital on Pleasant Valley Road.

A new hospital is nice, but it’s not the real reason.

You don’t just build a hospital out of bricks and mortar or on a founda-tion of concrete and steel. You build them on the foundation of your mis-sion.

Our mission at Owens-boro Health is to heal the sick and improve the health of the communi-ties we serve. For the past month, I’ve been speaking to employees and physi-cians and a lot of them ask me, “What’s next? Where’s the organization going to go in the years to come?”

The future of health care lies in giv-ing members of our communities the tools they need to live longer, health-ier and ultimately happier lives. To do that, we have to improve upon our “continuum of care,” the way health care works from top to bottom.

Owensboro Health is not just a hospital, but a whole system designed around patient care, from our smallest

clinics to the new hospital. We’ll build a healthier region by focusing on pre-vention. We want people in our com-munities to have access to screenings,

diagnostics and preven-tive measures that can stop illnesses and diseas-es before they become serious. That’s how we improve the health of the community.

This isn’t an overnight change, and it’s not an easy one either, but we learn by doing. That’s why we have informa-tional and screening booths at Rooster Boost-

er in January, as well as some gifts to help encourage physical activity. Atti-tudes are contagious too, and we look to our leaders throughout the commu-nity, in businesses, civic organizations and government alike. “Good health” is the word of the day. We want you to help us spread the word.

Elected in 2011, Lieuten-ant Governor Jerry Abramson brings experience, enthusiasm and a deep understanding of local government to the Com-monwealth of Kentucky’s executive office.

Lt. Gov. Abramson believes Kentuckians are united by a strong sense of values, work ethic and a belief in the sig-nificance of quality educa-tion.

The Lieutenant Governor has spent countless hours in Kentucky’s big cities, small towns and homegrown com-munities to promote a better Kentucky, one that creates

high-paying jobs, an edu-cated, highly-skilled, trained workforce and a vibrant quality of life for all. He has worked to inspire and involve business leaders, civic lead-ers, government officials, and private citizens to help Ken-tucky’s next generation.

Lt. Gov. Abramson led the Governor’s Blue Rib-bon Commission on Tax Reform, a group representing a broad spectrum of public and private sector experience and all corners of the state. The Commission worked to develop recommendations that would make the state’s

tax code more responsive to the ups and downs of the economy, as well as to make taxes more equitable for Ken-tuckians.

He has partnered with Gov-ernor Steve Beshear on bold initiatives to include 308,000 more Kentuckians in the fed-eral Medicaid health insur-ance program, and to launch the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange (kynect). The Med-icaid expansion, together with the creation of the exchange, will ensure that, for the first time in history, every Ken-tuckian will have access to affordable health insurance.
