White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Gil Kerlikowske and Illinois Attorney Gen- eral Lisa Madigan hosted a methamphetamine round- table discussion with assistance from the Center for Business & Industry at John A. Logan College on September 1st. The discussion was closed to the public and attended by federal, state and local law enforcement officers throughout the Southern Illinois region and representatives from drug treatment and counseling centers. Kerlikowske unveiled a new national methampheta- mine prevention and recovery advertising campaign that will utilize television, print, radio, online and outdoor advertising to deter meth use, The White House will be unveiling a new anti-drug strategy in early 2010, he said. The campaign will target 16 states where meth incidents are the highest. The national round-table was a sign of the success of the annual Methamphetamine and Other Drugs Awareness Conference hosted by the Center for Business & Industry. National Incident Management (NIMS)

Course  Description  Hours  Date 

ICS‐700  8 hour introduction course to the National Inci‐dent Management System & basic Incident Command.  Highly recommended.

ICS‐100  8 hour course.  Recommended for all respond‐ers (police, fire, medical, public officials and employees, utility workers, etc.) students and anyone who wants to learn management tech‐niques. 

8  Oct. 15, Rm H128 8a‐4p 

ICS‐200  14 hour course, provides more advance princi‐ples and information concerning the ICS.  Con‐sidered an intermediate ICS course, 700 and 100 are recommended but not required. 

14  Oct. 20‐21, Rm F119 8a‐4p 

Business Disas‐ter/Emergency Man‐agement & Continu‐

ity Planning 

12.5 hour course primarily developed for the business community.  Principles can be used by anyone, however.  Provides an in‐depth outline of info for a business to prepare for emergency management.   Highly recommended for all types of businesses. 

12.5  Nov. 17‐18, Rm H128 8a‐4p 

ICS‐300  16 hour courses considered advance IMS train‐ing.  700, 100 and 200 are prereqs.  This course is recommended to anyone who is considered a supervisor, manager, CEO, responders and those person who serve on an emergency re‐sponse team.  Must pre‐register with JALC and provide prereqs have been met.

Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness

John A. Logan College is a provider of Emergency Preparedness Training, to include National Incident Management System (NIMS) training. The college has established a cooperative rela-tionship with Homeland Security, FEMA and area professionals to provide training to the local area.

Do I get college credit for these courses?

Yes. Attendees can earn vocational skills credit from John A. Logan College for all computer and skills management courses.

How Do I Cancel?

Building Operator Certification

Southern Illinois Training Schedule

Building Operator Certification training includes nearly 80 hours of classroom and project work in

building systems maintenance. Each course in the series is completed in a one-day training session

except BOC 103 – HVAC Systems and Controls. Unless otherwise noted, training begins at 8 a.m.

and ends by 4 p.m. Tuition for the complete training series is $1,250. Your organization may

be eligible for a tuition rebate of $450. Early registration is encouraged.

Illinois Mandates Certification Beginning on January 1, 2010, within 2 years after being employed as a registered technician, a pharmacy technician must become certified by successfully passing the PTCB examination or another Board‐approved pharmacy technician examina‐tion in order to continue to perform phar‐macy technician's duties. This require‐ment does not apply to pharmacy techni‐cians hired prior to January 1, 2008.
