St Paul Parish and School Cub Scout Pack 135 Completes 2018

"Scouting for Food" Service Project

Over three days in March, our dedicated cub scouts and their families worked together to complete our annu-al "Scouting for Food" service project. Under the leadership of Packmaster Jeff Bajczyk, Pack 135, which in-cludes children from both the parish and school, we collected and donated over 400 non-perishable food and toiletry items to the Kettle Moraine Food Pantry. In all, nine children, 10 adults and one teenage boy scout completed the project. THANK YOU for your service!

The project had three components:

Part 1: After Mass on Sunday, March 11th, the Pack broke up into three crews to place collection bags on the mail boxes of houses in the residential area surrounding St Paul's. The Potawatomi Area Council for scouts designates the neighborhood for each Pack.

Part 2: On Saturday morning, March 17th, we gathered once again, split into three crews, and collected the bags from the houses we had visited the previous week. The response was very good! A number of people left extra bags of non-perishable foods and toiletries for us to collect. THANK YOU to our generous neighbors for their support!

Part 3: On Monday, March 19th, after school, we delivered the collected items to the Kettle Moraine Food Pantry. This year, the food drop-off portion of our service project was extra special. The cub scouts and their families met with Mrs. Vera Switalski, a Food Pantry volunteer and former teacher at St. Paul School. Mrs. Switalski gave a brief talk about the purpose of the food pantry, who can use it, and how it operates. After the talk, the group toured the facility and were put to work! The children were asked to take individual items from the donations, check the expiration dates, and place things on the shelves of the food pantry.

The project was a great success both in terms of the large amount of donated items, and thanks to the spe-cial visit at the food pantry. All those involved gained a deeper understanding of the needs of people in our community, and how we can all help make things a little bit easier for our fellow citizens.
