The pair will head to the Alsace region of France on the back of their 1-2 win in Australia with added confidence with Hirvonen now running second, only 15 points behind Sebastien Loeb in the championship.

With only three rounds to go, the outcome of Rallye de France is crucial to Hirvonen’s championship hopes and the manufacturers championship, where Ford is currently running second behind Citroen.

Ford is also set to use the black livery debuted earlier in the year for this round of the championship after fans started a Facebook campaign to bring the black and white livery back for a WRC round.

The Ford pair will be determined to repeat their success in Australia especially in France, the home round for the Citroen manufacturer and drivers, Rallye de France will run from September 29 – October 2.

“It’s great fun when Castrol allows us to meet other riders and drivers.”

The winning Ford duo Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala are into their final preparations and taking on a new look for the French round of the World Rally Championship.

Ford abu dHabi team taKe oN New studeNtsMotoGP star Marco Simoncelli recently tried his hand at driving the Abu Dhabi WRC Ford Fiesta RS normally driven by four wheeled geniuses Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala.

After Simoncelli’s drive, the Finns took Simoncelli and fellow two wheeler Castrol Honda World Superbike rider Jonathon

Rea for a spin on the test forest stage at the team’s M-Sport headquarters with Hirvonen behind the wheel.

The pair were also given an all access pass to the world-class facility where the Ford Fiesta WRC RS’s are prepped, Ford Abu Dhabi driver Hirvonen was pleased to be involved in the Castrol

devised meeting, he said, “It’s great fun when Castrol allows us to meet other riders and drivers.”

“Marco obviously has some serious talent. Considering it was his first time with this car, he put in some very impressive times. Maybe there’s a future for him in the WRC after MotoGP!”

Rea had a dream run in the first race with his brand new Honda CBR1000RR unveiled for the Imola round, landing on the top step of the podium for the Castrol Honda Superbike Team.

His second race run was much like the first race with Rea leading from the start, however a battery connection problem with only four laps to go forced Rea into the pits where he not only lost his 3.5 second lead on the field but was forced to DNF.

Rea’s path to the podium was more than just a win with his career plagued with injuries and set backs in the last two years, he said, “Race one was pretty emotional, because it’s been a long journey back.”

“Race one was pretty emotional, because it’s been a long journey back.”

Jonathon Rea has fought back from serious injury earlier in the year to take first place in the first race of the Imola round of the World Superbike Championship.

“Last season ended for me here, so it’s a credit to all the people around me – my family, my friends, my girlfriend, and of course the team – who have got me back to the top step

His teammate Ruben Xaus had a disappointing run in the first race finishing in 17th, however he was able to come back finishing in 11th just outside the top ten in the second race.

The team next moves on to France for the penultimate race of the championship October 2nd.

The Australians went into the match as the favourites despite their surprise loss to Ireland last week; however the loss seemed to be weighing heavily on the teams’ minds in the first half, with the players struggling to hold off the USA.

They went into the sheds at half time in the lead 22-5 and emerged more confident, laying try after try on the under matched USA team - despite the number of injured Wallabies on the sidelines piling up.

With the full time siren brought a relieved Wallabies side but also a myriad of injured players; including crucial team members, centre’s Anthony Faingaa and Rob Horne, Pat McCabe, Wycliff Palu and Kurtley Beale.

The Wallabies will line up against Russia this Saturday in Nelson for the final match of the group C fixtures before the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup.

TRUST SYNTHETICS TRUST CASTROL EDGE THE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO EXTREME POWER & PERFORMANCE

WHY SYNTHETIC OILS?Get the best protection for your engine by choosing a high quality synthetic oil. Synthetic oils offer significant advantages over mineral oils.

HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY: Synthetic oils are able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which mineral oils begin to break down. Synthetic oils provide optimum lubrication at extreme temperatures reducing wear and extending engine life.

FASTER LUBRICATION ON COLD STARTS: Synthetic oils remain more fluid at cold start up temperatures, circulating faster to protect moving parts within the engine. Because synthetic oils flow quicker, the engine reaches optimal operating efficiency sooner. Mineral oils on the other hand, tend to thicken in colder temperatures making the engine less efficient.

BETTER EVERYDAY PROTECTION: Synthetic oils are most resistant to the chemical degradation that comes with everyday driving. Synthetic oils provide better protection for your engine under normal as well as arduous driving conditions, minimising oil degradation and protecting against harmful deposits.

WHY CASTROL EDGE?At Castrol we know a thing or two about synthetic engine oil. In fact, we developed the very first fully synthetic racing oil. We’ve poured over 100 years of experience and lubricant technology into Castrol EDGE, the best engine oil we’ve ever made.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS: Castrol EDGE is able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which other engine oils begin to break down. Tests prove that even after blasting an engine at 340ºC, it is still running 72 hours later.

Castrol EDGE will also protect your engine at start up with its superior cold flow properties. At -55ºC Castrol EDGE still flows while the competitor synthetic oil has almost solidified.

Castrol EDGE’s synthetic technology provides outstanding protection at extreme temperatures, reducing wear and extending the life of your engine.

MAXIMUM POWER FOR LONGER: Get the best performance out of your engine by choosing Castrol EDGE. Tests prove that Castrol EDGE delivers maximum horsepower for up to 45% longer than competitor synthetic oils.

Mike Neff and teammates Robert Hight and John Force were unable to make it past the first round of the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals on the weekend. However despite his poor result Neff maintains his leading position in the championship Countdown after his two main championship rivals were forced

out by non-Countdown competitors in round two.

He goes into round four of the Countdown with a slim four point lead, however he is positive regarding the ability of his Castrol GTX Ford Mustang.

“This Castrol GTX Ford Mustang ran exactly what I was shooting for, the

race was decided by five thousandths of a second - what more can you ask for,” said Neff

“You aren’t going to win all those. Like I said our car is running good. I am not discouraged or worried in any way. We have come from behind and won championships before. There are four to go and we’ll be ready.”

Ingall and Larry Perkins were one of the most successful endurance partnerships of the 1990’s, winning the Bathurst 1000 in 1995 and 1997, however since then, a Bathurst win has evaded both Ingall and the Perkins’ family.

With Russell nearing the end of his career and Jack keen to have a win like Bathurst on his record like his father, the

pair may prove to be the surprise packet of the race.

Just like the 1995 epic come from behind victory, with Russell and Larry moving from last to first to take the win, all eyes will be on Russell and Jack this year, with few in the know underestimating the pair.

This race also has a significant meaning for the veteran Ingall, it will be his 200th Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars Championship event start.

Ingall’s Supercheap Auto Holden VE Commodore will display a special livery and the number 200 for the Supercheap Bathurst 1000 which will run from October 6-9.
