Racing in the black and white livery the pair for the event, Hirvonen and teammate Jari-Matti Latvala were bumped up to third and fourth respectively in the final Rally de France positions after third place Petter Solberg was excluded from the

final results after his car was found to be underweight.

The Ford duo were also helped by yet another set back for Citroen and Sebastien Loeb, the Frenchman was ruled out on the

first day after his car suffered mechanical issues, leaving Sebastien Ogier to take over first place.

Ogier was however challenged by MINI’s Dani Sordo who kept right behind the

MINI has taken second place in Rally de France in only their fourth event since returning to the competition in 2011.

Dani Sordo was on point from day one to take second behind Citroen’s Sebastien Ogier after championship leader Sebastien Loeb was forced out with engine failure and was unable to rejoin the rally.

Sordo and his navigator Carlos del Barrio were just behind Ogier the entire rally, clawing back a 9.5 second gap on the last day to finish 6.3 seconds behind at the finish.

Sordo was incredibly quick on the tarmac event even posting the same time as Ogier on SS20, he also posted the second fastest Power Stage time of the day boosting his points grab even further.

After challenging Ogier for the lead instead of taking a soft second, Sordo was very impressed with the car and his team, he said, “as you can imagine I am really, really happy to finish in second position.”

“It is an incredible result for the team so thank you to them and also to Carlos who has been great all rally.

“I think no-one here expected this before the rally, but we were fighting for the victory and at the end were just 6.3 seconds behind Sébastien Ogier.

“When you set good stage times as we have here in France, you always enjoy it.

“Before our first event we did not expect to be doing so well so soon. I am very pleased to be going to my home event in Spain in this position.

“The car was set-up well here, so I am confident it will be the same in Spain.”

Unfortunately his teammate Kris Meeke was unable to contest the final day after an accident on day two ruled him out.

The MINI Team will next challenge the WRC leaders in Spain – another tarmac rally.

Frenchman, the Ford duo were unable to match the two front runners, but kept within contention for a podium finish.

Latvala also put in an impressive run posting the fastest Power Stage time and pocketing extra championship points.

The top three in the championship, Loeb, Hirvonen and Ogier are only separated by three points, the last two rallies of the year in Spain and Great Britain will be the decider.

The Castrol EDGE backed teams are all aiming for huge results, with FPR’s Will Davison and endurance partner Luke Youlden looking to better their third place result at Philip Island.

While teammate Mark Winterbottom will take to the mountain with a new

livery to celebrate Orrcon Steel’s 10 years of V8 Supercars, the car he will share with Castrol ambassador, Steven Richards having a new name – ‘Blue Steel’.

The FPR prepared Bottle-O machine of Paul Dumbrell and Dean Canto was a surprise packet on the mountain last year and both anticipate a strong showing this weekend. Ditto, Tony d’Alberto. D’Alberto was ruled out of the L&H 500 with Chicken Pox – but returns to the Wilson Security Racer with Dale Wood.

Kelly Racing will bring an unprecedented five cars north for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 – are hoping for big things from the Jack Daniel’s pairings of Rick Kelly and Owen Kelly and Todd Kelly and David Russell.

Greg Murphy – who shared so much success at Bathurst with team boss Rick Kelly – will be joined by Alan Simonsen in the Pepsi MAX Crew Commodore and the Stratco racer will be occupied by young pairing David Reynolds and Tim Blanchard.

The Kelly Gang will be completed by the Castrol EDGE-backed Shannons

As the Great race approaches, the driving pairs are getting ready to contest a predicted wet and wild four days of racing at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Mars Racing entry of Grant Denyer and the youngest ever Mount Panorama starter, Cameron Waters.

Finalising the red, white and green adorned cars will be the Paul Morris Motorsport V.I.P. Petfoods car of Steve Owen and team boss Morris. History buffs will keenly follow the Supercheap Auto Racing entry of Russell Ingall and Jack Perkins.

Overall, the 49th edition of Bathurst will no doubt keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

TRUST SYNTHETICS TRUST CASTROL EDGE THE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO EXTREME POWER & PERFORMANCE

WHY SYNTHETIC OILS?Get the best protection for your engine by choosing a high quality synthetic oil. Synthetic oils offer significant advantages over mineral oils.

HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY: Synthetic oils are able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which mineral oils begin to break down. Synthetic oils provide optimum lubrication at extreme temperatures reducing wear and extending engine life.

FASTER LUBRICATION ON COLD STARTS: Synthetic oils remain more fluid at cold start up temperatures, circulating faster to protect moving parts within the engine. Because synthetic oils flow quicker, the engine reaches optimal operating efficiency sooner. Mineral oils on the other hand, tend to thicken in colder temperatures making the engine less efficient.

BETTER EVERYDAY PROTECTION: Synthetic oils are most resistant to the chemical degradation that comes with everyday driving. Synthetic oils provide better protection for your engine under normal as well as arduous driving conditions, minimising oil degradation and protecting against harmful deposits.

WHY CASTROL EDGE?At Castrol we know a thing or two about synthetic engine oil. In fact, we developed the very first fully synthetic racing oil. We’ve poured over 100 years of experience and lubricant technology into Castrol EDGE, the best engine oil we’ve ever made.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS: Castrol EDGE is able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which other engine oils begin to break down. Tests prove that even after blasting an engine at 340ºC, it is still running 72 hours later.

Castrol EDGE will also protect your engine at start up with its superior cold flow properties. At -55ºC Castrol EDGE still flows while the competitor synthetic oil has almost solidified.

Castrol EDGE’s synthetic technology provides outstanding protection at extreme temperatures, reducing wear and extending the life of your engine.

MAXIMUM POWER FOR LONGER: Get the best performance out of your engine by choosing Castrol EDGE. Tests prove that Castrol EDGE delivers maximum horsepower for up to 45% longer than competitor synthetic oils.

Clearly unfazed by the Russian force, the Wallabies quickly racked up points, collecting their fourth try in only the 15th minute of the game.

The points tally was shared amongst the team and full back James O’Connor sealed the deal converting all but one of the ten attempts at goal in the game.

The Wallabies will now leave their Group C counterparts behind to take on the South African Springboks in the quarter-finals in one of the true blockbuster encounters of World Rugby.

After rain delayed the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway on the weekend Castrol GTX High Mileage-backed John Force Racing’s Robert Hight has taken the Funny Car win in Pennsylvania.

Hight’s Ford Mustang defeated Johnny Gray’s Dodge Charger in the final round; it was his first win in the Countdown since 2009 when he won the championship and make

or break for his 2011 championship hopes.

“We knew that this was our last-chance race,” said Hight. “If we lost early again here, it’s over.”

“You put yourself in such a hole when you lose first round in the first few races in the Countdown. It was also in our mind that we didn’t win a single round in the Countdown last

year. You’ve got to get that off your back.”

Hight’s John Force Racing teammates didn’t have quite the same weekend as Hight with John Force losing out in the first round and Mike Neff getting to the quarterfinals before being knocked out of the running.

The Countdown continues October 14-16 in Arizona.

Cameron Waters has won the inaugural Shannon’s Supercar Showdown, securing a spot in the Kelly Racing Bathurst wildcard entry with Grant Denyer.

Waters beat out nine other hopefuls throughout the course of the show ultimately beating runner up Andrew Jordon in the final episode aired last weekend.

The current Formula Ford Championship leader also lines up for the event as the youngest ever V8 Supercars Bathurst driver, at only 16 years old he will beat the record set by Paul Dumbrell by seven days.

Despite qualifying for his spot on Mount Panorama, the Bathurst hopeful cannot actually drive on any open roads as he is still on his learners drivers license.

“I sit for my test the Wednesday after Bathurst to get my Ps. It will be an interesting conversation with the driving instructor about what I did on the weekend,” said Waters.

Waters and Denyer will line up for the Great Race this weekend October 6-9.
