Wheldon was involved in a 15 car serious crash at the Las Vegas final race of the IndyCar series; he was slated to drive with good friend James Courtney for the event.

His death and the accident have created a ripple affect with Will Power who was set to drive with Mark Winterbottom having to pull out after suffering back pain after his car went airborne in the accident.

Good friend of Dan Wheldon, Tony Kanaan also took to twitter to let his Australia fans know that ‘due to the circumstances’ he would not be making it to the Gold Coast for the race.

Kanaan’s partner for the race Jason Bright was quick to respond with a message of support for the driver.

Kanaan is the first of the IndyCar drivers to pull out of the event, however organisers have offered their complete support and understanding for any additional drivers who may withdraw.

The V8 Supercars and motorsport community with join together Saturday morning on track to honour Dan Wheldon, who many in the industry described as a ‘good friend to all.’

Preparations for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 have been deeply affected after the passing of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon.

The Ford World Rally team are looking to the past to help them secure the championship title for Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen.

With memories still fresh of 2009 when Hirvonen lost the championship to Sebastien Loeb by only one point, the emphasis is ‘every point counts.’

The 2011 ladder currently only has three points separating the top three drivers and this weekend’s race in Spain is the penultimate race of the season.

With the two Citroen’s suffering a spate of bad luck there is a real push for the Ford team to continue to put pressure on the Citroen pair.

Rally Spain will run from October 20-23.

TRUST SYNTHETICS TRUST CASTROL EDGE THE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO EXTREME POWER & PERFORMANCE

WHY SYNTHETIC OILS?Get the best protection for your engine by choosing a high quality synthetic oil. Synthetic oils offer significant advantages over mineral oils.

HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY: Synthetic oils are able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which mineral oils begin to break down. Synthetic oils provide optimum lubrication at extreme temperatures reducing wear and extending engine life.

FASTER LUBRICATION ON COLD STARTS: Synthetic oils remain more fluid at cold start up temperatures, circulating faster to protect moving parts within the engine. Because synthetic oils flow quicker, the engine reaches optimal operating efficiency sooner. Mineral oils on the other hand, tend to thicken in colder temperatures making the engine less efficient.

BETTER EVERYDAY PROTECTION: Synthetic oils are most resistant to the chemical degradation that comes with everyday driving. Synthetic oils provide better protection for your engine under normal as well as arduous driving conditions, minimising oil degradation and protecting against harmful deposits.

WHY CASTROL EDGE?At Castrol we know a thing or two about synthetic engine oil. In fact, we developed the very first fully synthetic racing oil. We’ve poured over 100 years of experience and lubricant technology into Castrol EDGE, the best engine oil we’ve ever made.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS: Castrol EDGE is able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which other engine oils begin to break down. Tests prove that even after blasting an engine at 340ºC, it is still running 72 hours later.

Castrol EDGE will also protect your engine at start up with its superior cold flow properties. At -55ºC Castrol EDGE still flows while the competitor synthetic oil has almost solidified.

Castrol EDGE’s synthetic technology provides outstanding protection at extreme temperatures, reducing wear and extending the life of your engine.

MAXIMUM POWER FOR LONGER: Get the best performance out of your engine by choosing Castrol EDGE. Tests prove that Castrol EDGE delivers maximum horsepower for up to 45% longer than competitor synthetic oils.

*Castrol EDGE Sport 25W-50 is a high performance mineral oil.

REA’S DOUBLE sHot Podium FiNisHJonathon Rea has taken his confidence from his last round victory to the final round of the World Superbike Championship in Portugal taking two third place finishes.

Tyre choice was the key for Rea, he chose a medium compound tyre and was able to take the lead before being overtaken earlier in the race.

“This year’s been such a journey for me, with a lot of ups and downs, so it’s just great to go into the off season with no injuries and the bike on the podium here,” he said.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has made the journey with me this season and to the team and all its partners for their support. I can’t wait for 2012 to start now.”

JOHN FORCE raciNg still iN tHe raceWith the completion of the NHRA Arizona Nationals both Mike Neff and Robert Hight have are both serious title contenders for the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Championship.

Hight was unable to explain his actions and could not justify his orginal win against Neff, he said, “You take out your teammate and then you go up there and do something like that is bad.”

“I didn’t do anything different before that run as far as my routine. I don’t think I put any more pressure on myself.

“I know I wasn’t thinking I have to try extra hard for this run. I try hard on every run whether it is qualifying or eliminations, you can’t dig any deeper out there.

“You have to have a routine, I wish I knew what triggered my foot to leave, it was like it had a mind of its own.

“There is no excuse, I didn’t have any more pressure.”

Team principal John Force also didn’t fare well, losing out in the first round, however all three have two more rounds to improve their results and standings for the finals series.
