SummaryCarol Brookes’ artwork has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and cultural centersthroughout the United States, including the Viridian Gallery in New York City, the McLarry ModernGallery in Santa Fe, Illinois Central College in East Peoria, the Maryland Federation of Art inAnnapolis, B. J. Spoke Gallery in Huntington, New York, the University of North Iowa in Cedar Falls,the Women’s Center in Los Angeles, and the Miami Metropolitan Museum and Art Center. In addition,her mixed-media constructions are in public and corporate collections, including those of the AmericanCinema Corporation in Boston, Grayco Paper Company in Miami, the Miami Dade Community College,and the Waterloo Art Center in Iowa. Brookes received a BFA in painting and drawing from theUniversity of Miami, an MA in painting from the University of Iowa, and an MFA in multimedia art fromthe University of Iowa.

SURFACE PULSESurface Pulse is all about texture.This group of twelve pieces areexperimental, an exploration ofsurface and materials. It is almosta free-for-all of ideas. All thepieces are white on white withvariations only in shade andfinish. The white enhances andemphasizes the many surfaceand patterns details.

PEARL SYNERGY was inspiredby shells and their pearl-likesurfaces, contrasting shiny andmetallic surfaces against matte,porcelain-like surfaces. The piececontinues to explore thehemisphere and the notion that inlife, something that seems simpleor plain on the outside cancontain beautiful and wondroustreasures.

PULSE PEARL GROUPThese new works explore theidea that a plain wrapper orsimple forms can hold hiddentreasures. Iridescent structuresare encased in matte white, shell-like forms and embellished withpearls and hardware. This groupis a precursor to "Pearl Synergy,"a group of nine, 22" squarepieces that are currently inprogress.
