CANDY BUYBACKS FOR THE TROOPSRobin T. Hobbs
A TRADITION WAS BORN
➤ Combining the best practices of dentistry and charity
➤ Pediatric dentists have engaged in a campaign which encourages children to let their dentists buyback their Halloween candy
➤ The re-bought candy is then shipped to soldiers oversees
➤ Offices independently run their buyback campaigns and then coordinate with Operation Enduring Support in order to send the sweet treats and notes of gratitude to the troops during the holiday season
THE DRIVE OPERATES
UNDER A SIMPLE
PRINCIPLE:Kids come into the office with their bags of candy, the
bags get weighed, and then the kids are given the option to sell their candy for $1 a pound, with a
maximum of $5 per child. Some schools and churches are taking this gesture to the next level, with children
donating their candy instead of just selling it.
FOR THOSE WHO DONATE INSTEAD OF SELL THEIR
CANDY…The money that would’ve been spent buying the candy is instead donated towards the creation of Thanksgiving baskets for local needy families.
WHILE IT MAY NOT SEEM LIKE MUCH
Most of our troops fighting abroad are stationed in the desert and have little to no access to luxuries such as
American candies that would remind them of home. Operation
Enduring Support runs this program up until mid-November collecting donations from local churches and dentist offices.
