T his year’s Superbowl game was
certainly an interesting one.
Plenty of
subplots
coming into the game
and interesting per-
sonalities on both
sides. In the end, Pete
Carroll pulled a Pete
Carroll and the ‘Hawks
botched a second
straight title. For those of you who don’t re-

member, Carroll also botched a chance at
second straight BCS title when he coached
at USC. On January 4, 2006, the scenario
was similar to the SuperBowl. Only needing
a yard to secure the game and champion-
ship, with the best running back in recent col-
lege football history (Reggie Bush) in his
backfield, Carroll does the unthinkable:
leaves Bush on the sideline and hands the
ball to LenDale White. USC is stuffed, does
not get the first down on 4th and 1 at the 50,
and Vince Young becomes a college football
hero leading Texas down the short field for
the winning score. We know what happened
in the Super Bowl. Did he hand off to the General Tips to Help Prep
for Testing
S pringtime is coming and you know
what that means: longer days, warmer
weather, baseball and … testing. Test-
ing is a part of every student’s life but there’ s
no reason to be stressed out about them. If
you follow these 5 simple rules from the DMS
guidance counselors, Ms. Thackston and Ms.
Dennison, you will sail through your exams.
1. Work hard every day.
2. Get a solid 8-9 hours sleep every night.

Candy Kabobs! -Prachi Lad
Materials:
-Variety of soft/gummy themed candies
-bamboo skewers
-clear bags
-ribbon
Directions:
• Choose a variety of candies–most used between about 10 & 15 per
skewer, depending on candy size.
• Insert candies onto the skewer, pressing the candies a little more than
halfway down on the skewer. Alternate styles, sizes, flavors, and/or col-
ors.
• Tips: Be careful with the bamboo skewers, the end is definitely really
pointed! So, make sure you don’t poke yourself. Also, make sure that
the skewer only gets inserted about halfway through the top candy (so
that the skewer doesn’t poke out the top).

Hi Finn,
My best friend has been being really mean to me
lately. She constantly tells me what to do and
who to be friends with. I really want to be friends
with this one girl that my friend doesn’t like, be-
cause she seems really nice to me. What do I
do?
Sincerely,
A Debating Friend
Dear Debating Friend,
I have one and only one piece of advice for you:
YOU control who you are friends with. Not your
best friend. If she’s influencing your decisions
that much, maybe you want to reconsider your
friendship. If you feel uncomfortable, then tell
your best friend. Use your words. If she truly is
your friend, then she’ll stop being so rude to you.
And if she’s still mean to you after that, you’re
going to have to end your friendship. It’s going to
be hard, but you don’t deserve to be treated this
way. Hope this helps!
Have a finn-tastic day,
Finn
Dear Finn,
My grades are terrible because
I have too much to do. I belong to several clubs
and sports. How can I balance all of this, and also
still get a good night’s sleep?
From,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
The best advice I can give in this situation is that
your grades come first. If there’s too much on
your theoretic plate right now, you have to re-
move some of the food. In other words, you can’t
be doing so many clubs if it’s interfering with your
schoolwork. If you aren’t in so many clubs, you’ll
have more time for homework and studying, and
you’ll also get more sleep because you won’t
have as much work to do. Pick, say, three clubs/
sports that you really love, and itch the rest.
Maybe if you feel that you can manage a bit more
later on, you can add the activities back into your
schedule. Good luck!
Hope your next test grade is splash-tacular,
Finn
Dear Finn…You have problems. Finn has answers.

around you. Maybe a teacher or maybe
someone alone at recess. Your capabil-
ity to listen is one thing you will need
this month.

You have an eye for detail: use it. You
will need it this month. You will need to
use the tiniest things you see because

these next few months, but you only
need to please yourself. Be nice to

literally than usual. But don’t worry! Just
remember not everything is exactly as
said

Spring into Next Season’s Fashion By Kyla Brennan
Spring is coming and so is the bloom of fashion and fabulocity! At this point in the year,
we are all beginning to look for color, light, and the energy that comes with spring. Now is the
time to get a fashion-forward look ready to go for the next season! Some of the best looks for
spring fashion include pastel colors, bold black and white
prints, head to toe denim, and the look of art that trans-
lates into bold prints and graphics that catch your eye
just as easily as a priceless Van Gogh painting. Spring
fashions make us feel light, bright, and ready to go! It will
soon be time to retire the cold weather gear and big
coats and sweaters to be re-
placed with lighter, layered
pieces like a great leather jacket
with some of your bold accesso-
ries and brighter color schemes. The key to stepping into spring in
style is to match the look with the spirit of spring and own your sense
of style with your personality and attitude…...spring is a time for
change so go ahead and mix it up a bit!
Spring fashion is the time to express your inner self with a vari-
ety of bold colors, textures and accessories. First, spring is filled with
denim, the most American texture out there. Denim can be worn
casually but it it can also be totally dressed up, super trendy, and play-
fully edgy. Additionally, fringe is the perfect way to give any dull look
an original pizzazz. Classy, elegant, savvy and sim-
ply beautiful black and white is everywhere. There is
an undeniable boldness in the contrast of a rich black
and a clean white. Off the shoulder tops and
dresses have instantly become a remarkable trend,
giving any ordinary appearance a boost to extraordi-
nary. Feathers are making a bold and dramatic re-
turn to the runway. A feathered dress, skirt, or hair
piece can make any outfit totally stand out. Lastly, in
the upcoming spring you will find sheer fashion is all
the rage. Sheer pieces add elegance and dimension to any look. The lightness and delicacy of
this fresh look will always catch people’s attention because it draws the eye right in! Hence,
spring is clearly a beautiful fashion opportunity to display your inner fashionista and let the fun
of the season become the focus of your fashion and personal style! With love, grace fashion
and inspiration in your day, Kyla Shaye!

• Anything can happen. In the NFL the best
team usually prevails...in the NHL and NCAA
basketball, inferior teams can ride one player
to a championship. Nobody gives us better
underdogs than these two tournaments.
• They Don't call it March Madness for nothing,
Check out this link:http://
www.thedailybeast.com/videos/2013/03/20/7-

beaters.html
• The NHL has the best and most loyal fans of
all the pro sports. True fans have a connec-
tion to their teams and know them like family.
On Super Bowl Sunday, it seems like every-
one is a long time fan of the two teams in the
game and have been so for years. Philly is
an “Eagle town” but I have seen far too many
Seahawks jerseys and fans the past few
years.
• Flyer Fans are among the best fans in all of
sports (and I’m an Islander fan).
• If you ever have the chance to watch the
Duke Kentucky game from 1992, please do
so. Only March Madness could give us that
kind of game and moment.
• The games themselves. If you have ever had
been to live playoff and title games, nothing
compares to NHL playoffs and the Final Four.
Ask anyone who has gone and the consen-
sus is the same. NHL playoffs rule! So does
the Final Four!
• March 17-22...any real sports fans know the
significance of this. Simply the best four day
weekend imaginable. See me for more de-
tails.
Looking forward to your responses.
Mr. Bree
best running back in the NFL, especially in short
yardage situations? Of course not, a risky pass
and another title slips through his fingers. I mean
seriously, he’s a great motivator and manager of
personalities but ask any Patriot, Jet, USC and
Seahawks (he was the head coach for all four
teams at one point) fan how they feel about his
play calling.
The Super Bowl is second only to the 4th
of July, as an American holiday where people
have big parties and plans. It certainly is awe-
some to watch sporting events with family and
friends, but for me the day is rarely about the
game or the sport. And that’s fine; it’s what the
NFL wants...big money commercials, big stars at
halftime and lots of people spending money on
their food sponsors. It is the biggest event in
American sports but I would argue never the
best. That is why I would like to take a poll here.
If you have read this, I would like to hear your
thoughts on sports title games and tournaments.
Please send an email [email protected]
or a drop note in my box in Red House Office and
let me know what your favorite title game is and
why. We can print some of the responses in the
next Splasher. As for me, the NHL playoffs and
NCAA March Madness are probably tied as my
favorites. The reasons:
• Both run over a month long and provide so
many memorable moments
• Intensity over a period of time. Teams have
to keep up their intensity not for 60 min but for
what could turn out to be over 20 games (LA
KINGS 2014)
Don’t forget to send Mr. Bree an email [email protected]
or a drop note in his in Red House Office and let him know what your favorite title game is and why.

people around town act as if they’ve seen a
ghost when they see Bethany? Bethany won-

The Hobbit by: J.R.R Tolkien
By: Aarushi Gupta
E very single person on this planet MUST read The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. It is a
pure fantasy with dragons, dwarves, elves and wizards. It is the
legend of Bilbo the Hobbit and how he leaves his cozy home in
Bag End to take back a dwarven clan’s treasure. Along the way,
he meets trolls, goblins and giant spiders. He befriends eagles and outwits
wolves. He plays a game of riddles and meets a werebear. He meets his
destiny which lies under Misty Mountains in the hands of a creature by the
name of Gollum. This book is full of hilarious poetry and thrilling riddles. I
would recommend this book to all ages. The Hobbit is a classic and you
can read over and over again. This stunning prequel to The Lord of the
Rings trilogy is a five star book!

and Anthony has to destroy them. On the way he saves some of his friends. He saves Ian’s
mom in one of the first levels. Then after the level she gives you a free weapon to defeat the

Ben J. Pierce has just come out with his first single called Little Game. Little Game is
about people usually think that boys should wear blue and girls should wear pink. During this
video a girl and boy don’t do what the average guy/ girl does (Boy playing with a barbie, and
the girl not putting the book on her head.) So during the video it shows that it doesn’t matter if
you’re a girl or a boy, because a girl can do anything a boy can do and a boy can do anything a

What is one of the things you will miss
when you leave for retirement?
The one thing I will miss when I retire is being
around 11-14 year old students every day.
This age group is very interesting to be
around each day. I learn about all the new
music, dance and fashion. They are very en-
ergetic and fun to be around all day.
How long have you been teaching? What
was your most favorite year?
I have been teaching for 27 years. I can’t
really say I had just one favorite year. Every
September is a new beginning with new per-
sonalities. Each year there is a new chemis-
try between teacher and student. I must say
that one year that is memorable to me is
1992. That was the year that I taught a stu-
dent who today is my daughter-in-law. Never
in a million years did I think one of my former
students would be in my family, but yes it
happened.
What is your favorite thing to teach?
When I first began teaching, I was a 6th
grade teacher teaching reading, writing,
math, science and social studies. After 10
years of teaching all 5 subjects, I began
teaching just reading and writing AKA lan-
guage arts. I must say reading is my favorite
subject to teach because when you read a
piece of text you can let your imagination run
wild. If I had to choose which book I liked
teaching the most, it would a toss up be-
tween The Giver or The Outsiders.
Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Redman
What are you looking forward to when you
retire?
When I retire, I am looking forward to not
having a schedule of my day planned for me.
I am looking forward to waking up and plan-
ning my day as I see fit. I would like to travel
and spend time with my grandchildren.
Have you taught in any other schools? If
so, which school(s) and what grade(s)?
I taught at Marlton Middle School until De-
Masi Middle School opened its doors in Sep-
tember 1993. I always taught in Red Hall,
first 6th grade and then 7th grade.
What do you plan to do on your spare
time?
I would like to travel, volunteer my time to
help others, keep active and of course spend
time with my family.
What kind of teacher did you want to be at
first when you started teaching?
I wanted to be a teacher since I was eight
years old. First, I wanted to be a music
teacher, but I couldn’t sing or play the piano.
Then I wanted to be a Spanish teacher until I
went to college and all my classwork was
written in Spanish and the professors only
spoke Spanish. At last, I decided to get my
elementary degree and that’s how I started
teaching in Evesham.
We Will Miss You Ms. Redman!
3. Wake up with enough time to eat a good breakfast, and not be late to
school.
4. To be nervous or stressed is normal - take a few deep breaths to help relax
your mind and your body.
5. Know that trying your best is all you can do :)
Follow these 5 rules of thumb to be successful throughout your schooling, and your life!
Don’t Sweat the Tests (continued from page 1)
The Super Bowl began when a man named Lamar
Hunt, said, “The Super Bowl is a super name for a
Super Game.” Mr. Hunt was an American sports-
man and promoter of American football, soccer,
basketball, tennis and ice hockey in the United
States
The Green Bay Packers won the first two Super
Bowls, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders follow-
ing the 1966 and 1967 seasons. On January 15, 1967, the Green Bay
Packers of the National Football League smashed the American Football League's Kansas
City Chiefs, 35-10, in the first-ever AFL-NFL World Championship, later known as Super Bowl
I, at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. The Packers were led by quarterback Bart Starr, who
was named the Most Valuable Player.
The entertainment back them was quite different than today. The pregame show was by
the University of Arizona and Grambling Uni-
versity marching bands with Al Hirt, a trum-
peter and band-
leader. These
same marching
bands also played
the national an-
them and provided
the halftime enter-
tainment.
