Halloween Sunday, October 31, 2021

Today is a day to drive safely as the tiniest of creatures start to appear in the early afternoon. As evening approaches, keep an eye out for ghosts and goblins, who will be walking about your neighborhood looking for sweet treats. Keeping your porch light on will not scare them away, but invite them to your door for some candy

and a smile.

Time to Change Your Clocks to Eastern Standard Time Sunday, November 7th

Typically clocks are adjusted back one hour near the start of autumn.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, November 6, 2021

Daylight Savings Time Means Time to Check the Batteries

in your Smoke Detector

Spring and fall is the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Medicare Open Enrollment Period Begins October 15, 2021

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans usually change each year. Make sure that your drugs will still be covered for 2022 and that your providers and pharmacies will still be in the plan’s network.

Please note that there will be some enrollment period changes for 2021.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, beginning in 2019, you will be able to change your coverage between January 1 and March 31. During this time, you can switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another or switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare, with or without a Part D prescription drug plan. If you are enrolled in Original Medicare, you will NOT be able to make changes during this time. Although if you do not have a Medicare Supplement, you are able to purchase one any time during the year if the company is willing to insure you.

If you have Extra Help to pay for prescription drugs, beginning in 2019, you will no longer be able to change plans once a month. Instead, if you have Extra Help, you will have a s Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to enroll in or switch Part D plans once per quarter in the first three quarters of the year (January—March, April—June, and July—

September). If you change your coverage using this SEP, your new coverage will begin the first day of the month following the month you enrolled in the new plan.

Medicare Prescription Drug Open Enrollment Period 2021

Have your medication needs changed? Will your health insurance coverage meet your needs in 2021? Have you been notified of a premium increase or has one of your medications been eliminated from your plans formu-lary? Now is the time to consider re-evaluating your prescription and healthcare needs and possibly changing your Medicare coverage. Coverage changes can be made to your Medicare prescription drug plan during the upcoming 2021 Open Enrollment Period which begins October 15 and ends December 7. This is the only time you can make such chang-es until October 2022. Any changes made to coverage during open enrollment will begin January 1, 2022.

Please call the William Toth Health Center, 80 Idelwild Road at 732-248-7286 to make an appointment with one of our SHIP

Columbus Day Holiday, Monday, October 11, 2021

“In fourteen hundred and ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue...”

Columbus Day celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas, which occurred in October 1492. The Edison Senior Center will be closed Monday, October 11th in honor of Columbus Day.

No transportation services will be provided.

Edison Senior Center Selected as a Middlesex County Early Polling Site

Earlier this year, historic legislation established in-person early voting in New Jersey. This law makes our state even more voter-friendly and strengthens our democracy by expanding opportunities to exercise your right to vote. This new option allows registered voters to cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during a nine-day period prior to Election Day. You can now choose to vote, in person, when it’s most convenient for your schedule. The Edison Senior Center has been selected as one of the early polling sites in Middlesex County. As such, all activities at the Senior Center are cancelled Monday through Friday the week of October 25 to 29, 2021.

Transportation services will still be available and senior center staff will be on site to answer your phone calls by dialing 732-248-7345. The building will be closed for appointments and walk-ins during this time period.
