A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

Welcome A warm welcome to our new student, Sebastian A. in 4L. We look forward to getting to know you whilst at our school.

2020 Enrolments The school is in the process of finalising enrolment numbers for next year. If you know of any students interested in enrolling at our school who are in area, please advise them to contact the school office as soon as possible. If you have a child / sibling who will be attending Kindergarten in 2020, please ensure you ask for an enrolment form at the office.

Belated Birthday Gift The key to what makes our school so great is the support we receive from all members of our school community. We had a vision to transform our grass oval to an improved area for our students to run on a track, kick a ball or sit in an outdoor learning space. Thanks to the support from our community, this vision will now become our reality. It was around this time last year that our school celebrated its 125th anniversary and once again our community came together to put on a fabulous celebration. We are fortunate that our school is well resourced but winning this $200000 grant to upgrade our school oval is icing on the cake.

Dance Sport

Congratulations to all the Year 5 students who participated in the Dance Sport Challenge at Homebush last night. You certainly did us proud! Thank you to Mrs Nakkan for coordinating this event and to Mrs Archer and Mrs Manahan who attended.

There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it’s positive or negative.

W. Clement Stone – 1902-2002, Businessman and Philanthropist

Warmest Regards,

Ms.V.Pantelis.

From the office We have a number for glasses in Lost property. If you recognise any of these as yours, please contact the office. Thank you.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Grandparents Day and Book Character Parade Thank you to all the Grandparents and parents who joined us at school this morning to celebrate Grandparents Day and Book Week. The students were very excited to have you here. Thank you for all the positive feedback you shared with staff. It truly was a “feel good day”. The concert and the classroom visits were a huge success.

Our book character parade was also highlight of the morning. It was wonderful to see all the students parade across the stage dressed as a book character. Thank you to the parents and students for supporting this school event.

Late Arrivals to School The number of students who arrive late to school every day, without a valid explanation, increasingly concerns us. Without a valid explanation, the absence is recorded as unjustified. It is not acceptable to just write “Late”. There are strict guidelines we have to follow. All late arrivals must have a valid explanation to be recorded as a partial absence. All attendance records are checked regularly and students with a high percentage of unjustified absences are flagged. Parents must collect a late slip for a student who is late to school – students are not allowed to sign their late slip.

Year 5 Dance Sport Gala Showcase

Congratulations to all Year 5 students for their fantastic efforts with the Dance Sport program this year. On Friday the whole grade will perform at school for parents to showcase the skills they had learned after a 15 week program that taught them how to dance the Jive, Cha Cha, Salsa, Samba and the Tango.

On Wednesday evening, 40 students from the Year 5 group danced at Homebush. They participated in the Dance Sport Gala Challenge. It was a magnificent night with a great deal of glitz and glamour! There were 26 schools represented on the night with over 600 students. All children danced as part of the whole group and then as part of a smaller group, where they could really perform and shine. Every student was outstanding. Following the larger group performances, four couples chosen to represent the school competed in a dance-off challenge. What a fantastic achievement!

Well done to all students. It was a long night with a great deal of dancing. All children from Burraneer Bay were a credit to themselves and were great ambassadors for our school! Mrs Manahan, Mrs Archer, Miss Hirst & Mrs Nakkan

Lost Property (Repeated) Our lost property is currently overflowing with items of clothing. Every week we work hard to try and return as many items as possible. It is difficult to locate the owners when items are not labelled with your child’s name or the name is very difficult to read. Please help by checking all items of your child’s clothing to ensure they are clearly labelled. If your child has lost an article of clothing or a lunch box or drink bottle, please try and visit the Lost Property box in the library before the end of the term. All unclaimed items will be donated to the second hand uniform shop.

Botany Bay Excursion Recounts On Wednesday 11th September, 2019, all of Year 1 went on a really fun excursion to Botany Bay. First, 1P went on a bushwalk and saw lots of beautiful trees then we played Beach Bingo. I found shells, a crab, oysters and other interesting things. Afterwards, we worked in teams and completed a mapping activity where we drew Aboriginal symbols. After lunch and a run around, we learnt more about native animals like the brush tail possum and the echidna. I had a great day and I even had fun on the bus ride home. Who doesn’t love a double decker bus? What an awesome excursion to Botany Bay. Written by Maximus B “Woooo hoooo” the kids screamed, as we saw the double decker bus outside the school gates. We were so excited about our excursion to Botany Bay. Firstly, we went on a bushwalk and we listened out for the native wildlife. When we got to the beach, we played Beach Bingo. I found 3 star fish shells, 1 white crab and about 20 oysters. Next we played scavenger hunt map search in teams. My team finished first but Mrs Wylie kept reminding us it wasn’t a race! It was so much fun. Finally, we collected insects from leaf litter. I found 2 grubs and 1 worm. I had a really great day! Written by Archie W
