Calendar Item Basketball Shootout

The SRC have done an amazing job this year. All the students who have attended the SRC meetings have enjoyed sharing their ideas and organising the special fundraising activities. To finish the school year with a positive, they have organised a fun filled basketball shootout to raise money for a new school mural. Students can wear mufti. They are encouraged to dress up as their favourite sportsperson and bring in a gold coin donation. All students from kindergarten to Year 6 will participate in the ten minute basketball shootout session against other students in the grade. The class with the most shots will win. Students in the winning class will each receive a zooper dooper on Friday.

A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

Lifelong Learners The teachers have participated in some fantastic professional learning sessions after school. Some of the topics have included quality teaching practices, strategies to help support students with specific needs, critical and creative thinking, literacy and mathematics. These sessions have been led by our teachers. We are fortunate to have a large teaching staff that enable us to tap into the expertise that exists within our school. World Teachers Day World Teachers’ Day was celebrated in Australia last Friday, 25 October. This day is a great opportunity to acknowledge the hardworking teachers in our school and celebrate their dedication and commitment in educating students. Leadership Policy Last year the school reviewed its Student Leadership Policy. The implementation of this policy provides all members of our school community with a clear understanding of the process involved. It is always a disappointing time for some students who may not be successful in obtaining a position on the school leadership team. We ask parents to encourage their children to be resilient and to trust that the school offers leadership opportunities to all of our senior students. Kindergarten Orientation The school made welcome our 2020 Kindergarten students and their families on Tuesday and look forward to having them back next Monday. Thank you to all who assisted in the organisation of the event, as well as presenting information about our school to the new parents. This time of the year is extremely busy for the uniform shop and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Whippy and her team for the amazing job they do in offering this service to our school community.

Deputy Principal’s Report

School Uniform Congratulation to the students in KT who showcased our school uniform at this week’s Kindergarten Orientation. You were wonderful. Thank you to the prefects who assisted. You were excellent ambassadors for our school. Well done. It has been wonderful to see our students wearing their summer uniform with pride. Thank you for wearing the correct socks and shoes to school each day. A reminder that all students need to wear our school hat every day. Students should wear their hat before school, at recess and at lunch. Please ensure that all jumpers, jackets and hats are clearly labelled with names and classes so that they can be easily identified and returned if lost. Kindergarten 2020 Orientation: Day 1 Kindergarten 2020 attended the first of their two Kinder Orientation Days on Tuesday October 29th. 82 very excited little people joined us in the hall for a concert and a fashion parade before heading off to the Kindergarten classrooms to participate in their colour group activities. Their Year 5 buddies were there to greet them. The feedback we received from the parents was so positive. Many new parents commented on the behaviour of our current kindergarten students. It was hard to believe that a year ago they were attending their orientation morning. They were very settled as they entertained the audience with their performance of “Sing a rainbow and True Colours”. Thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure the morning was a positive experience for everyone. Thank you also to the Year 6 staff and the Year 6 students who supported this wonderful school initiative by providing the Kindergarten 2019 students with a morning of buddy experiences. The smiles on the faces summed up the morning.

“Thank you so very much. I just wanted to say how much we thoroughly enjoyed the morning. The hall was buzzing with excitement. I loved watching the gorgeous kids perform and model the school uniform, rather than just watching a slide show.”





Student Attendance

Thank you to all the families who have been using the SMS system to notify the school of student absences. Parents are encouraged to send an SMS to the school – 0409594864 – before 9:00am to alert staff about a student absence. A number of students often arrive late to school or depart early. Please ensure your child is on time for school. Students should be here by 9:05am, ready to go into class at 9:10am. All lunch orders should be given to the canteen before the bell.

Are you planning a Holiday in the school term? A reminder that all families who are planning to take holidays or a short break throughout the school term, longer than 3 days, are required to complete an Application for extended leave Form. The Application for Extended Leave – Travel form can be downloaded from the school website. Please go to “Notes and forms” – “General forms”: Application for Extended Leave -Travel, or alternatively, it can be obtained from the school office. The form requests supporting documentation – Flight details or hotel bookings and needs to be handed in at the school office at least one week prior to the date of travel to enable the Principal to approve the leave and return a certificate. If leave is approved, then days absent are still marked as whole day absences, but recorded as justified leave.

If your child attends BAC, please make sure you inform them of extended leave or daily absences.

School Crossing Supervisors We have been advised that the hours of the School Crossing Supervisors on Burraneer Bay Road and Gannons Road have changed. Our supervisors will now be in attendance on the crossings from 8:30am – 9:30 am and from 2:45pm – 3:45 pm each day.

Order your 2019 Year Book now The Year Book is a celebration of the many activities that all students from K-6 are involved in throughout the year. This year’s Year Book is outstanding. This year’s achievements are shared throughout. It is a wonderful keepsake for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Selective High Schools Applications 2021

Information about applications for Selective High Schools in 2021 was sent home to all Year 5 students last term. All applications must be made online. The application website opens on 8th October 2019 and closes on the 11th November 2019. The tear-off slip on the intention to apply form must be returned to the school office if your child is intending to apply for selection into a selective high school in 2021.
