WHAT IS BREAD?

Bread is one of the most important foods in the world Often called the “staff of life”, makes up an essential part of a well balanced dietAll bread is made by baking dough that has two basic ingredients: flour and liquidAll bread is either leavened or unleavenedSome breads from many nations contain fruit, a vegetable, meat, seeds, or nuts.

HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF BREAD

At first people ate raw grains, later they learn to cook these.At much later time, they learned how to grind the seeds between stones to make flour.Then more than 4000 years ago, the Swiss lake dwellers learned how to mix flour and water into dough.In 3000 BC, the leavened bread was accidentally discovered or made by a royal baker in the Nile Valley in Egypt.As early as 200 BC, the Greeks established public bakeries.

The Romans conquered Greece and improved the milling process.Wheat arrives at Philippines in the early 17th century.1958 – when the first Philippine flour mill began its operation. The country became the world’s second largest flour importer.

USES OF BREAD

Can be main feature of meal – Example: Sandwiches, turnovers.Serves equally well with food, chicken or other dishes as best supporting companion.Go well with special meal.Ground and used as a thickener in some sauces like lechon sauce.Used as an extender in some process meats like embutido.HOST – bread or wafer consecrated in the Eucharist.

BUNWICH is made of yeast raised dough, but the product is baked instead of fried. They are golden brown in color and looks like hamburger buns, but they more delectable and have sesame seeds on top.

BUN – a sweet or plain bread, especially a round roll.

SANDWICH - is a food item made of one or more slices of bread with one or more fillings. Sandwiches are a widely popular type of food. They generally contain a combination of salad vegetables, meat, cheese, and a variety of sauces.

BUNWICH HANDLING GUIDELINES

DO’S DON’TSAlways hold plastic packaging lying flat to retain its shape.

Do not hold plastic packaging in upright position to avoid deformity of the buns.

Always check “best before” date.

Do not use buns that are beyond its best before date.

Always store buns in cool, clean and dry place.

Do not store buns in extreme hot or cold temperature

Always serve fresh Bunwich.

Do not stock prepared / assembled Bunwich.

DO’S DON’TS

Always keep plastic packaging properly sealed and / or plastic container tightly closed when not in use.

Do not leave buns expose to prevent from drying up.

Strictly monitor the following when re-heating of buns:

a. Holman Oven Toaster – 1 to 5 pcs. for 2 minutes at 180°F

b. National Panasonic Oven Toaster – 1 to 2 pcs. for 1 minute at 170°F

Do not over heat the buns. This will result to dry and hard texture.
