김밥 싸는 게 뭐 별거 있나, 그냥 김밥 위에 밥이랑 재료 얹어 놓고 말면 되는 거지. 그렇지. 김밥이랑 김이랑 방향이 같게 놓는 게 맞지. 가게가 오래 된 거라 좁고 지저분한데, 사진은 왜 찍는다는 거야. 김영삼 정권 때부터 했지. 정확히 1996년 4월 22일에 ‘또와김밥’을 인수했지. 정확히 기억해.

There is no special way to roll kimbab. Just put the rice and other ingredients on seaweed and roll them together. Right. You have to put seaweed on a rolling pad and get them to face the same direction. I can’t understand why you would want to take photos of my old shop. It is too small and dirty. I started this business during the Youngsam Kim administration, on the twenty second of April, nineteen ninety six exactly. That’s the day I took over the bistro, ‘Towa Kimbab’. I remember it well.

We are in ‘Kohgane Kimbab’, a bistro in Changseong-dong, Jongno-gu Seoul, run by 57 year old Kil-hee Lee. Mrs. Lee sup-plied the kimbab for the openings of Bona Park’s solo show ‹FREE Flight› (at Platform Place 629, near Dosan park in Seoul, beginning Oct 19th 2011) and her part of the group show ‹Out of Blank Pages› (at Art Space Pool in Gugi-dong, Seoul, begin-ning Oct 21st 2011).

김밥 재료가 뭐 별거 있어? 그냥 사서 넣는 거지. 다 산 거냐고? 아니지, 단무지만 산 거지. 다 아침에 집에서 해서 온 거야. 단무지 싸고, 부추 넣고. 부추는 참기름 치고 볶고. 아니, 무쳐야지. 볶는 게 아니라. 소금이랑 참기름 쬐금 넣고. 데쳐서 무친 거지. 시금치도 좋지만, 부추도 몸에 좋아. 부추가 나아. 이 동네는 데모하면 차 막혀서 못살아. 가난한 사람 살기 힘든 동네야. 큰 마트도 없고. 집이 그냥 이 위에니까, 가까워서 그나마 낫지. 같은 건물 위에 가족들이랑 살지. 아들 둘이랑 아저씨랑 어머니랑.

Just simple ingredients. You just buy things and put them together. No, I didn’t buy everything. Just pickled radish. That’s the only one I buy. I prepare it all by myself in the morning at home. Take a pickled radish and some chives. Fry the chives with sesame oil, no, no, you have to mix it without frying. I boil it a bit and mix in a little salt and sesame oil. Yes, spinach is good, but chives are good and healthy as well. Chives are better, I think. This area becomes messy when people protest. Traf-�c gets horrible. It isn’t a place for poor people. There isn’t even a big supermarket around here. I live just above the shop. So I can manage at least. With my husband, two sons, and mother, I live above this building.

김 위에 밥을 얹어. 그냥 밥. 아무 것도 안 넣느냐고? 아니지, 그냥 소금이랑 참기름 조금 넣지. 아, 식초도 한 방울 떨어뜨려. 쌀도 좋은 걸로 사가지고, 조금씩 조금씩 그때마다 만들구. 김밥 싸는 게 별거 있어? 그냥 알아서 써. 내 성씨가 고씨냐고? 아니야, 옆에 백안관이 들어올 때 공사 차가 간판을 망가뜨렸어. 우리 아저씨가 새로 간판 하러 갔는데, 간판 집에서 가게 이름이 왜 반말이냐고 바꾸라고 해서, 자기 성씨로 바꿔서 왔어. 고가네 이름 단 건 6–7년쯤 됐지. 난 이씨야, 이씨. 스물 여섯, 일곱 때 고가네로 시집와서, 스물 여덟에 큰애를 낳았지.

Put the rice on the seaweed. Just rice. No seasoning? Yes, a little bit of salt and ses-ame oil. Oh, also a drop of vinegar. I use good quality rice and cook it just a little, only as much as it needs. There is nothing special about rolling kimbab. Just write what you want to say. I don’t have things to say. Are you asking if my family name is Koh? No, it’s not. When the building, the White House was built, a construction car broke our sign, so my husband went to get a new one. The sign guy said ‘Towa’ sounds a bit rude, too much like an order, so he suggested we change the name. So my husband made a sign with his own family name. funny. It was six, seven years ago. My name is Lee, my family name is Lee. I joined the Koh family when I was about twenty six or seven, and had my �rst son when I was twenty eight.

계란도 집에서 부쳐온 거구. 밖에 애들? 요새 애들만 욕을 잘하나, 사시사철 욕을 달고 다니는 사람들은 항상 욕을 잘하지. 시방시방. 작은 아들은 욕하는 거 한번도 안 들어 봤어. 큰애는 몰라, 욕도 하는가. 우리 애들은 착해. 순해. 오늘 빨간 당근이 빠져서 미운데. 맛살 넣고. 오양 맛살도 살짝 볶으고. 오양 맛살에도 소금 넣냐고? 약간.

Yes, I cooked the eggs. Kids outside? Well, nowadays, it’s not just the kids that swear, but there are grownups who swear all the time. It has nothing to do with age. Shito, Shito. I have never heard my youngest son swear. I don’t know about my older son. My children are basically very mild and nice. I don’t have carrots today. Without the orange color, it doesn’t look as nice. Add crabstick. Yes, fry it a bit. Salt? Yes, put in a tiny bit.

단무지도 넣고, 부추도 넣고, 오뎅도 넣고. 오뎅은 산 거냐고? 아침에 볶아온 거라니까. 기름 두르고. 사서 내가 만들어 오는 거지. 오뎅은 그냥 참기름에 간장 약간 치고, 후추 치고, 그냥 볶는 거야. 김밥 싸는 거 하나도 안 어려워. 그냥 싸면 돼. 여기 가게가 좁고 지저분해서 이사 갈꺼야. 큰 아들이 10년 사귄 여자 친구가 있는데 결혼시켜야지. 걔네 집은 잘 살아. 우리도 아들 장가 보내기 전에 깨끗한 데로 이사가야지. 일산으로 갈지도 몰라.

Combine the pickled radish, chives, and �sh cake. Are you asking if I bought the �sh cake? I said I fried everything by my-self in the morning. With oil. I buy packs of �sh cake, and cook it by myself. You can just fry it with sesame oil, a little bit of soy sauce, and pepper. It is so easy to make kimbab. Everybody can make it. I will move out of the shop. It’s too small and messy here. My son has a girlfriend who he’s been with for nearly ten years. They will get married soon. She’s from a rich family. Before he marries her, we’ll move some-where nicer. Maybe to Ilsan.

빨간 당근이 빠졌어. 그래서 맛살을 두 개 넣었어. 나 시장 가야겠네, 당근 사러. 당근도 사러 가고 은행도 가야혀. 요새 배춧값이 비싸서 김치를 못 담궈. 깍두기나 담궈야지. 빨간 당근이 빠져서 미운데. 밥은 일인분 들어가고. 오뎅도 하나 더 넣자. 색 이쁘게.

No carrots, so no orange, so I added two crab sticks instead. I need to go to the market to buy carrots. Have to go to a bank as well. These days, the price of cab-bage is crazy, so I can’t make cabbage kimchi anymore. Radish kimchi instead. It is not pretty without carrot orange. Yes, one portion of rice. Let’s add one more �shcake to make it more colorful.

햄도 썰어서 소금 살살 뿌리고, 기름 둘러서 후라이팬에서 앞뒤로 익혀야지. 됐어? 햄 넣고. 김밥 싸는 게 뭐 별거 있나, 그냥 알아서 써. 옛날에는 요 앞이 한빛은행이었지. 오래 했어, 여기서. 15년 했지. 15년 했다 그래. 지금이 2011년이면? 90년대 후반에 시위 한창 할 때는 차 막혀서 엄청 고생했지. 그래도 여기가 청와대 근처라, 경호대 사람들이 많이 와서 팔아줘. 김대중 대통령 때는, 대통령 사위도 여기 단골이었어. 자주 와서 참치김밥이랑 라면이랑 먹고 갔지.

Slice ham the into pieces and fry it in oil and salt. OK? Add the ham. Nothing spe-cial about rolling kimbab. Please just write whatever you like. That is what an artist has to do, isn’t it? Across the street from the shop, there used to be Hanbit bank. I’ve run this place for long time. About �fteen years. Write that. It’s two thousand eleven now, so isn’t it �fteen years? At the end of the nineties there were lots of dem-onstrations. Tra�c jams all the time. But since the Blue House is nearby, the guards often come to eat here. When Dae-joong Kim was President, his son in law was a regular. He would come often to have tuna kimbab and instant noodles.

자, 이제 썬다? 이렇게 썰어? 고생하네. 이런 거 찍어서. 직업이 아니라 미술이라고? 여기 옆에 갤러리에서도 자주 오는데. 어제 뭐 하는데, 사람이 많이 모여서 담배 피고있더만. 남자고 여자고, 다들 담배를 피대.

O.K. now I am going to cut it into pieces? Like this? What a hassle to take these photos. You are an artist? You don’t have a real job? People from the gallery next door often comes here to have kimbab. Yesterday, they seemed to be having an event. There were many people smoking cigarettes. Men and Women, oh my God, everybody seemed to smoke a lot.

마는 것도 찍어? 신선한 재료로 맛있게 해주려고 노력한다고 그래. 여태 뭐 이상 있다는 사람 하나도 없었으니까. 15년 동안. 재료 같은 것도 신선하지 않고 그럼 배탈나지. 이 동네? 잘 몰러. 내가 뭐 돌아다녀야 말이지. 김밥 말고, 장이나 좀 보러 다니고.

Are you going to take a picture of me roll-ing this? Write that I am doing my best to prepare special kimbab with fresh ingre-dients. I have never had anybody get sick after eating my kimbab for 15 years. If the ingredients are not fresh enough, people can get sick of course. The neighbors? I don’t know the neighbors well, as I don’t really go out. Mostly I roll kimbab and sometimes go to the market. That’s all.

특별히 맛있다고 그래. 다 했으니까 얼른 치워, 이제. 뭐 찍을 게 없어. 자주 와서 김밥 먹어. 책이 뭐, 금방 나오나? 안 급하니까, 책 안 나와도 들려서 김밥 먹어.

Say my kimbab is especially tasty. I have done everything, so wrap up your things. There is nothing worth photographing. Come back often and have my kimbab. I know the book won’t be out soon. It must take a while. I am not in hurry, so even without the book, come over sometimes and have kimbab.

됐어? 치워도 돼? 빨간 당근이 없어서 밉다. 예쁘긴 뭐가 예뻐. 하나가 빠졌는데. 여기 매일 문 열어. 일요일에만 11시나 6시 성당 미사 가는데, 사람들이 알아서 그 시간 피해서 와. 나 이사가면 누가 김밥 마냐구? 뭐, 나보다 더 잘하는 사람이 들어오겠지.

Everything is O.K.? Can I clean up now? It doesn’t look nice without the carrots. No, it isn’t pretty. One ingredient is missing, I don’t like it. I open this bistro every day. Except on Sunday, when I go to church at either 11 in the morning or 6 in the eve-ning. People know when I am not here, so they don’t come then. Who is going to roll kimbab if I move out? Well, I guess some-body who can do a better job than me may come.

아니, 뭘 이런걸 해달라 그래, 바쁜 사람한테. 아니, 모르는 사람이 불쑥 들어와서 이상한 걸 해달라고 하니, 내가 해주겠니? 그래도 나쁜 사람 같지는 않고, 내 딸이랑 같은 걸 한다니까 내가 도와주기로 했어. 내가 아주 찐드기한테 걸렸어. 길이가 오십 인가, 이게? 뒤에다가 선을 그어야지. 내가 아주 바쁜 사람인데. 새벽에 나와서 밤 늦게까지 일해야 겨우 시간을 맞춰주는데, 이런 걸 하래.

I’m a very busy person. Why are you ask-ing me this? What, did you think I’d just drop everything to do this weird favor for a stranger who just walked through my door? Well, you don’t look suspicious, and I guess my daughter is already helping you, so yeah... maybe I can talk to you after all. You are so persistent. This length is 50cm? I have to draw a line at the back. I am so busy, I already have to work from early in the morning to late at night to just �nish jobs on time, and here you are asking for this favor.

미싱은 눈감고도 돌리지. 근데, 내가 테이블보를 만들어 본 적이 있나. 난 남자 양복만 만들어. 여자 양복은 내가 만들면 밉더라구. 그래서 딸들 옷은 만들어 준 적 없어. 그게 참 희한하게, 남자 재단이랑 여자 재단이 틀려서 그런가봐.

I can use a sewing machine with my eyes closed. But I have never made a tablecloth before. I make men’s suits, but I’m not good at women’s suits. Even with my skills and my training, I can’t get them to come out right, it’s weird. So I never made suits for my daughters. Sounds funny, doesn’t it? I guess there’s a di�erent way to cut the cloth.

이거? 내가 20살 때 배웠으니까, 30년 가까이 한 거지. 가게는 15년 됐구. 그때는 배울만한 기술이 별거 없었어. 자동차 기술 같은 것도 별로 없었구. 이거랑 이거랑 박으면 되겠네. 짧은 거부터 박아야되네. 미싱질 어떻게 하냐구? 그냥 하면 돼. 사진 찍을 게 뭐 있니, 가게도 지저분한데. 밖에 써 있는 향토 왕족이 무슨 뜻이냐고? 아, 내가 이 가게 처음 열었을 때 향토 왕족발집이었는데, 밤에 도망갔대. 나는 모르지, 왜 도망갔는지는, 가게세를 못 냈나?

My job? I started doing this when I was twenty, so I have been doing this for almost thirty years. This shop is �fteen years old. In the old days, there weren’t a lot of trades for young people to pick up. Auto mechanics were also rare. This one and this one, put them together. The short pieces �rst. Are you asking me how to use a sewing machine? You can just use it. Nothing special. My shop is so old and untidy. I can’t understand why you would want to take photos of it. What do the letters on the window mean? Hyang-to Wang-jok? Oh, it was a restaurant that sold boiled pork hocks here before I opened my shop. I heard they ran away at night. Well, why would I know why they did it? Maybe they couldn’t a�ord the back rent.

예전에 같이 일하던 친구가 미국 가서 주문 받아올 테니 옷 만들어 달라 그러더니, 진짜 그러대. 미국 흑인들 옷 만들어 주는 거야. 아틀란타에 가게가 있어. 이름은 그대로 우리 가게 이름 가져다 쓰대. 거긴 다 흑인만 산대. 그렇지, 그니까 옷이 다 크지. 우리 손님 중에 여자도 있어. 변호사인데, 이 아줌마 허리가 61인치야. 내 두 배야. 그래서, 파는 옷이 안 맞아서 맞춰 입나봐. 등치도 크고, 성질도 있다고, 빨리 보내주라고 맨날 그래.

A friend I used to work with asked me to make suits for orders he got from the States, and he was good at getting them. For black people. There is his shop in At-lanta. He took the name from my shop, so both of them are called the same thing. LA Town costume suits. I heard that only black people live in Atlanta. Right, so I make pretty large ones. There’s a female costumer, a lawyer, my friend said. Her waist size is sixty one inches. It is almost twice as big as me. Huge! I guess she uses our shop because she can’t �nd her size in regular stores. I heard she is a giant with a hot temper, so I have to rush to �ll the order before she goes crazy.

그냥 쭉 박으면 되지. 내가 내 양복도 만드냐고? 대장간 집에 식칼이 없다잖아. 무슨 뜻이냐고? 자기가 하는 일은 집에 가서 안 해. 내 양복은 만들기 싫어. 내 결혼식 양복? 그건 그때 같이 일하던 친구가 만들어줬지. 안 가지고 있어, 미워서. 결혼식 끝나고 얼마 안 돼서 버렸어. 옷장에 내가 만든 양복이 한 서너 벌 있나? 요새 양복 잘 나오는데, 나라도 사서 입겠다. 누가 맞춰서 입냐? 내가 아는 이 일 하는 사람 중에, 내가 나이가 제일 어려. 이런 일은 이제 안 배우려 하지.

Just cut it straight. A suit for myself? You can’t scratch your own back. Meaning? People don’t want to do their profession at home. I don’t like to make clothes for myself. My wedding suit? One of my tailor friends made it for me. I don’t have it any-more. It was not good enough, so I threw it out after the wedding. In my closet, three or four I made by myself? Well, who wants a custom suit nowadays? Even I would rather buy a well-produced name brand one. As far as I know, I am the youngest tailor around here. People don’t want to learn this kind of trade anymore.

풀 바르는 거야. 뭐가 그렇게 궁금해. 핀 대신에 바르는 거야. 미군들? 글쎄, 그 사람들은 질서를 잘 안 지키네. 미국은 선진국이라서, 우리나라를 얕봐서 그런가.

I’m applying some glue. You are curious about a lot of things. Instead of pins, I use glue. American soldiers? Well, they don’t come here. I don’t know, maybe America is developed, so they look down on us.

이거 좀 작아져도 되나? 가에를 좀 잘라야 되겠는데? 여기서 오래 했어도, 이웃은 잘 몰라. 바빠서 잘 안 나가고, 여기는 사람들이 잠깐 살다 가는 동네라서. 외국인들이 잠깐씩 살다 가지. 이 건물이랑 옆 건물이랑 주인이 같은데, 아주 국제적이야. 주인 양반이 젊었을 때, 미군부대 근무를 했어서 영어를 좀 놀거든. 아프리카 사람, 필리핀 사람, 인도네시아 사람, 아주 다양해. 여기? 500에 60하지. 필리핀 부부는 지하에 25. 아주 착해, 필리핀 사람들.

Is it o.k. if it’s a bit shorter? I think I need to cut o� the edges. Even though I have worked here for a long time, I don’t really know my neighbors very well. People don’t stay in the neighborhood a long time. Foreigners easily move in and out of this area. My landlord owns this building and the next one as well, and they are very in-ternational. He used to work on an Ameri-can army base, so he knows how to play in English. Africans, Filipinos, Indonesians. Diverse people live here. It is �ve million won for deposit and six hundred thousand won per month for rent. A Filipino couples lives in basement, and they only two hundred �fty thousand won. They are very nice. Philippine people are nice.

왜 앞면에다가 박냐고? 그 옆에 건물을 이 동네 사람들은 차범근 건물이라고 하지. 거기도 뭔지 모르겠는 거 하는데, 딸이 갤러리라고 하대. 창문에 글씨 붙여놓고. 사람들이 북적북적하더라구.

You’re asking why I sewed this on the front? Neighbors call the building, Cha Bum Geun building. I had no idea what they do there, but my daughter told me it was a gallery. It’s got letters on the win-dow and a lot of people hanging around.

검정을 뒤에 이렇게 붙이라고? 이게 크기가 맞나 보자. 앞에 목욕탕은 내국인 전용이냐고? 아니야, 옛날엔 일본인만 받았었는데, 이제는 한국 사람도 와도 된다는 소리지. 사람들이 외국인은 못 들어간다고 생각해? 사람들이 그렇게도 생각하는구나. 그거 아닌데. 내 전공은 양복이니까, 양복을 만들어 달라고 해야지. 이런 건 처음 해본다.

Attach the black fabric like this? Let’s see if it �ts. Are you asking if the public bath across the street is only for Koreans? No, that’s not what the sign means. They used to only take Japanese customers, but now there aren’t enough Japanese, so they started letting in Koreans. People think ‘for Domestic people’ means they do not allow foreigners? That’s funny. I didn’t imagine people would read it that way. No, that’s not what it means. I specialize in suits, so you should have asked me to make a suit instead of this. I have never done this before.

이거 다림질 안 하면 안 이뻐. 막내는… 초등학교 6학년. 다 너무 이쁘지 다. 난 테레비 보면 걱정이야. 우리 딸들도, 테레비에서 나오는 나쁜 놈들한테 시집 갈까봐. 딸이 셋이나 되니, 그 중에 하나라도 나쁜 놈한테 걸릴까봐 아주 무서워, 그냥.

You’ve got to iron it for it to look good. The little one… She is only ten years old. I love my daughters a lot. Whenever I watch TV, I worry about my daughters ending up mar-ried to bad guys. As I have three, it’s a big risk! I am very concerned. Even if just one got hitched to the wrong kind of man...

We are in ‘Nuha Mokjae’, a woodworking shop in Nuha-dong, Jongno-gu Seoul, run by 72 year old Man-Ho Kim. Mr. Kim built the table for Bona Park’s solo show ‹FREE Flight› (at Platform Place 629, near Dosan park in Seoul, beginning Oct 19th 2011) and her part of the group show ‹Out of Blank Pages› (at Art Space Pool in Gugi-dong, Seoul, beginning Oct 21st 2011).

다리끼리 이래 박고. 다리 얇게 해서 두르면, 발에 걸리잖아. 그냥 이렇게 해. 언제부터 목수일 했냐구? 이십살 때부터 했으니까 오십이년쯤 한 건가? 원래는 면목동 가구 만드는 데서 일했지. 남의 밑에서. 그 때가 오육십년대였는데, 아휴, 그때는 선반 같은 거 만들어 놓으면 만드는 족족 나갔어. 잘 팔렸지. 육이오이후에 다 파괴돼서, 다 다시 지었으니까. 그때, 다방 같은 거 많이들 했거든. 장사가 잘됐었지. 다방 하면, 테이블이랑 의자 같은 게 백개씩 들어갔으니까.

톱으로 잘라서 여덟 개 만들면 되지. 장갑? 원래는 끼고 해야 하는데, 그거 끼면 손이 뭉툭하니 무딘 느낌이 들어서 잘 안 끼지. 마스크 같은 거 안 해도 돼. 목재 가루는 마셔도 다 소화가 되거든. 돼지고기 그런 거 안 먹어도, 다 나와. 목재 가루는 깨끗해.

First, we saw out eight pieces. Gloves? I know I am supposed to wear gloves, but I can’t feel the wood through them, so I don’t wear them. A mask? Not necessary. Your body can handle sawdust. It’s �ne even without eating oily pork belly. Saw-dust is clean.

이 가게? 팔십 오년부터 했지. 이제, 위에 올려놓을 틀 만들어야지. 친구가 그 전에 이 근처에서 가게를 했는데, 잘 되더라구. 그래서 괜찮겠다 싶어서, 여기로 이사 왔지. 당시에 한옥이 많아서 목수가 많이 필요했거든. 나무도 많이 들어가고.

This shop? I opened it in nineteen eighty �ve. Now we’ll make a the table frame. One of my friends had a shop around this area, and it was going well for him, so I thought it might be good to move here. Back then, there were many Korean style wooden houses going up. A lot of demand for carpenters, a lot of demand for wood as well.

안 밀리게 이거 박고, 갈아줘야 매끈해. 거기 살 때는 영화도 많이 보고 다녔어. 총각이라 돈도 못 모으고, 벌면 주말에 다 쓰고. 그때, 하류 극장들이 있었단 말이야. 우미관이나, 왕십리에 광묵극장, 또 성동극장, 그리고 또 이름이 기억 안 나네. 그럼 한 번에 영화를 두 개씩 보여준다고. ‹킹콩›이랑 ‹타워링›이랑. 그런 거 보고 있으면 하루가 금방 다 지나가. 여기 이사 와서는 영화를 한 번 못 봤네.

Clamp this down, nail this piece here, and sand these down to make them smooth. When I lived in Myeonmok-dong, I often went to the movies. There were many B class cinemas at that time. Woomi-kwan, Kwangmook theater in Wangsip-li, and also Sungdong theater. There was another one whose name I forgot. They’d play double features. 나무 다리 이래 붙이고. 그치, 오공본드 바르고 박지. 옛날에는 목재가루에 밥풀 이겨서 썼었는데. 그게 더 좋았지, 튼튼하고, 색도 안 변하고. 오공본드는 마르면 색이 변하지. 요새 목수일 하는 사람이 별로 없어. 어제는 종로 가게에 누가 문짝을 술먹고 부셨다고 해달라고 연락이 와서 갔다 왔네. 그런데 지갑을 두고 가서 다시 왔어.

Attach the leg like this. Correct. Have to use Okong glue �rst, then nails. Way back, we used a mixture of sawdust and sticky rice. It was better, stronger. No discol-oration. Okong glue changes color when it dries. Nowadays, there aren’t many carpenters anymore. Yesterday someone called me to �x a door broken by a drunk in Jongno, so I went to see it, but I didn’t bring my wallet so I had to come back.

이게 나무라서 잘 휘어. 올라가서 좀 밟아야겠구만. 여기가 한옥보존구역인가로 지정돼서, 정부에서 육천만원 무상보조하고, 사천만원 장기융자 해준다고 했는데, 그거 갖고 한옥이 지어지나? 이억은 드는데. 정부가 하라는 데로 하면 빚만 지지. 아파트 개발되려다, 보존지역으로 된 건데, 묶여진 거지 뭐. 한옥은 땅이 사오십 평은 되야, 마당도 있고 이래 좋은데, 이 동네는 이십 평, 십팔 평, 이십오 평 뭐 그래. 마당도 없고 개량이고 하니, 별로 안 좋아. 나도 한옥 사는데, 물 새고 안 좋아.

이래 안쪽에 박고. 내가 낚시를 하는데, 돈이 많이 들어. 아니, 바다 낚시. 우럭도 잡고, 갈치도 잡고. 배타고 몇 시간 들어가서 잡는데, 여수 같은 데 가면 돈이 많이 든다고. 30만원은 들어. 그러니, 자주 간다고 용돈 달라 그러면 누가 좋아하나? 내가 벌어서 다니는 거지. 은퇴가 없으니까, 요새 사람들이 아주 좋은 직업이라 그러대.

어제 왜 가게 문 안 열었냐구? 맞아. 낚시 갔다 왔지. 날짜 잡힌 게 있어서. 신진도 갔었어. 안면도 옆에. 이쪽으로 가면 안면도고, 저쪽으로 가면 신진도고. 섬까지 배 타고 2시간 들어간다고. 그렇게 가도 별로 안 잡혀. 어제는 스물 댓 마리 잡았나. 우럭이지. 봐봐, 한 마리 남았네. 한 열 집 나눠주고 나니까, 안 남어. 어느 집은 주고, 어느 집은 안 주나? 공평하게 다 줘야지. 그렇지, 여기 오래 산데다, 일해주러 다니니까 동네 사람을 많이 알아.

Why didn’t I open the shop yesterday? Right, I went �shing. I had planned it already, so.. I went to Shinjin island. Next to Anmyeon island. 전시 때만 쓰는 거야? 나중에 작업대 하라고 튼튼하게 만들었는데. 작업대로 써. 컴퓨터도 올리고. 나중에, 광택 락카 두통 사서 뿌리고 쓰면 좋아.

Are you going to use this only for the shows? I made this strong so you can use them as your work tables. Use it as work tables. Put a computer on it. Later, spray two cans of glossy coating, then it will be nicer.
