Low VOC formulations

Since 1997, the Association for the Control of

Emissions in Products for Floor Installation,

Adhesives and Building Materials (GEV)

certifies low-emission construction products

with the quality mark GEV EMICODE®. Bona lacquers

were the first in the industry to be awarded the EMICODE

EC1 trademark. Bona’s reactive adhesives also carry this

important classification.

All adhesives and surface treatments used in

new installations in Germany have to meet the

DIBt standard that governs the safety of indoor

air quality. Where indicated in this brochure, Bona

adhesives and coatings meet this stringent certification.

Greenguard

Our lacquers, primers and retail cleaning

products are GREENGUARD certified.

The globally recognised GREENGUARD

Certification is part of UL Environment,

a business unit of UL (Underwriters Laboratories).

GREENGUARD Certification helps manufacturers create,

and buyers identify, interior products and materials that

Bona Floor Treatment Programme

Our new floor treatment programme delivers

three cost effective maintenance treatments,

particularly suited to commercial/public

floor owners.

All Bona Certified Contractors have been

trained to deliver all parts of the programme.

Their expertise and recommendations will

ensure floors remain in tip top condition –

looking good and performing safely – for as

long as possible between treatments.

Adhering to their recommended schedule of

treatments will significantly reduce periods

of disruption, downtime and lost revenue.

Revive effectively with little downtime

The Bronze Treatment is a new effective way of keeping

floors beautiful, bringing dull wooden floors back to

life in an instant. This quick revival delivers remarkable

results between floor renovations, and the floor is ready

to be walked on after as little as half a working day.

Using the Bona Power Scrubber machine with the

specially formulated Bona Deep Clean Solution, the

wooden surface is effectively deep cleaned, so even

the toughest dirt, grime and scuff marks are removed.

The floor is then ready for a fresh layer of polish, oil, or

refresher, depending on the type of finish.

Full Sanding & New Surface

Extend time before renovation

The Silver Treatment is an excellent alternative to a full

renovation, with less downtime and cost.

High performance Bona Diamond Abrasives are used

to prepare the surface by removing scratches and

wear. The perfectly smooth sanded surface can then

be recoated with Bona Traffic HD, giving the floor a new

layer of durable protection with perfect adhesion to the

layer beneath.

Ready for a full renovation

When the floor is severely damaged or yellowed,

showing deep scratches and a completely lifeless

appearance, the Gold Treatment is recommended.

Going for Gold Treatment not only gives a total renewal

of the floor’s beauty and protection, it also opens up

endless possibilities to change the entire look of the

floor. The full renovation includes sanding down to

bare wood using our comprehensive range of sanding

machines and high performance abrasives. The

sanded floor is then completely retreated with a Bona

coating that suits the demands of the surface.

Bona Systems – Typical Application Guidelines

1. Subfloor preparation

1.1 Use FlexiSand fitted with PCD Maxi Segments for removal of residue from

concrete and other hard surfaces including old adhesive, bitumen, carpet foam

backing, epoxy, paint etc.

1.2 Use FlexiSand fitted with Diamond Segments for removal of sinter layers from

screeds, levelling compounds and concrete. Also to smooth the surface after

using the PCD Disc if necessary.

1.3 Use double sided discs with FlexiSand or Buffer for removal of laitance

from screeds – 24-36 grit as required.

2. Wood surface preparation

2.1 For removal of heavy stock (ie UV coatings) and levelling, use Ceramic

abrasives with either Belt or FlexiSand.

2.2 For removal of old coatings or bare wood preparation prior to

refinishing, use Ceramic abrasives 50 grit followed by Zirconium Mix

abrasives 80 grit (with Bona Belt HD/Dual Edge/FlexiSand).

2.3 Use Bona Mix & Fill/Mix & Fill Plus to fill small gaps if required.

Application by trowel at 8-12 m²/litre. Drying time 15-30 minutes at

20°C/60% RH.

2.4 If floor is exposed to strong light/downlighters, use Zirconium Mix

120 grit, or Silicon Carbide 150 grit abrasives.

2.5 If oiling or staining, consider using Diamond abrasives.

3. Keying back/overcoating

3.1 Thoroughly clean the floor using the Bona Deep Clean System.

Continue with Bona Diamond Abrasives, 240 grit – designed for

superficial abrasion of all types of hard coatings prior to overcoating

with new varnish. (Use Bona FlexiSand without Power Drive).

Deep clean again.

4. Denibbing/sanding between coats

4.1 Use the Bona Scrad System with Buffer or FlexiSand.

Primers/Levellers


Bona D501

A primer designed for use with Silane based adhesives. It is suitable for absorbent and non-

absorbent substrates (with the exception of magnesium industrial floors) and for chipboard

panels and similar substrates.

Primer for the preparation of absorbent substrates prior to using levelling compounds. Bona

Liquid repair material for filling hollow spots in parquet floors as well as reattaching loose

elements and boards. Once injected the material expands and effectively fills up the hollow

Bona Scrad System

Pad for Bona FlexiSand and Bona Buffer. The Bona Scrad System is a unique abrasive

system specially suited for intermediate sanding between coats of varnish. It combines

an abrasive Scrad Wing with a soft conditioning pad that cuts off wood fibres and

smoothes out scratches at the same time. The Scrad Wing has a Velcro backing that

Bona White

Primer producing a white tint look where the intensity can be controlled by applying it in

one or more layers. Applied in a single layer it typically preserves the impression of raw,

untreated wood. For a truly white impression, apply two or more layers. Highly forgiving

formulation designed for easy roller application. To optimise the white characteristic,

overcoat with Bona Novia or any version of Bona Traffic. Overcoating Bona White primer

with Bona Mega or Bona Mega Natural is not recommended if you are looking to achieve a

true white look.

wood. Using a direction-free sanding technique, the drive combines excellent performance
