Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles (abdominals) strengthening the deep torso muscles that providing the spine. It also aims to stabilise the pelvis and shoulder girdle to prevent lower back, neck and shoulder discomfort. The repertoires of exercises are conducted with the following principles in mind: align-ment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flowing movements. All exercises are performed on a mat, with bare feet and, in some cases, some props to aid movement or add difficulty. Pilates can be deceptively demanding. Those who do Pilates regularly, feel they have better posture, are less prone to injury and experience a feeling of well-being.
