    This is your homework booklet for the next few weeks. A minimum of 4

    pieces of homework must be completed by the due date but you can do

    them in whatever order you wish. Table/Dojo points are available for

    the excellent effort or contribution to homework.

    I have also included your spellings and times tables which need to be

    practised on a regular basis.

    If you require any help or support, you can talk to me.

    Additionally, we shall be holding a homework club where you can com-

    English/Art Piece 3:

    LO: To design your own Japanese shell.

    Kensuke’s Kingdom – Japan tree

    ‘ Kensuke would spend many hours of every day kneeling at the table, painting. He painted on large shells…

    Then one day, after hours of kneeling hunched over one of his paintings, he came over and gave it to me. It was a

    picture of a tree, a tree in blossom. His smile said everything. ‘For you. Japan tree,’ he said. ‘I, Japanese person.’

    After that Kensuke showed me all the paintings he did, even the ones he later washed off. They were all in black and

    white wash, of orang-utans, gibbons, butterflies, dolphins and birds, and fruit…

    On the table in front of him he put out three saucers: one saucer of octopus ink (for Kensuke, octopuses were not just for

    eating), one saucer of water and another for mixing.

    Then one rainy afternoon – and when it rained, how it rained – I found he’d set out a shell for me, my own three

    saucers and my own paint brush.’

    LO: To write a recount of your experience on living on a desert island.

    ‘ At every opportunity now I talked to him of the outside world, and the more I talked the more he seemed

    to become interested. Of course, I never spoke of the wars and famines and disasters. I painted the best

    picture of the world outside I could. There was so much he didn’t know. He marvelled at all I told him, at

    the microwave in our kitchen, at computers and what they could do, at Concorde flying faster than speed

    of sound, at men going to the moon, and satellites. These things took some explaining I can tell you. Some

    of it he didn’t even believe, not a first.’

    In art we have been learning about the Kayapos.

    Design at LEAST one piece of jewellery/outerwear/body art that would appeal to a Kayapo tribes-

    man.
