    ABSTRACT

3ydraulic jack system is attached to automobile "ehicle on front and rear part of the chassis# An

automobile hydraulic jack system can be easily attached to all currently manufacture automobile

chassis and frames# (here is a front suspension hydraulic jack that is mounted centrally to the

front suspension of an automobile between its front wheels# (here is also a rear suspension

hydraulic jack that is mounted centrally to the rear suspension of the automobile between its rear

wheels# (he system operates from a compressed fluid reser"oir tank that has connections for the

front and rear car jack outlets# Additional outlets can be added to the compressed fluid reser"oir

tank for connecting a hydraulic lug wrench and another for a tire inflating hose# (he Major

Project entitled >Automated hydraulic jack with air system? Worked on the principal of hydraulic

power and operated by -+ @olt !1 current, sol"es the all major problem of maintenance of all

automobiles specially the hea"y "ehicles like truck and bus# (his work, if implemented, would

definitely help in the maintenance of automobiles and also in sa"ing of time# In this we also add

the automatic air fill up the tire by the air compressor which is operated with the circuit system

    that is work fully automatically#

    CHAPTER -

    INTRODUCTION

3ydraulic jacks work on the basis of Pascals Principle, named for )laise Pascal, who li"ed in

the se"enteenth century# )asically, the principle states that the pressure in a closed container is

the same at all points# Pressure is described mathematically by a 8orce di"ided by Area#

(herefore if you ha"e two cylinders connected together, a small one and a large one, and apply a

small 8orce to the small cylinder, this would result in a gi"en pressure#

    -3- Pa%cal@% Pr'c'6al

    8

    9/35

)y Pascals Principle, this pressure would be the same in the larger cylinder, but since the larger

cylinder has more area, the force emitted by the second cylinder would be greater#

(his is represented by rearranging the pressure formula

    PB 8CA, to 8 B PA#

(he pressure stayed the same in the second cylinder, but Area was increased, resulting in a larger

    8orce#

%enerally speaking, there is a wiper control knob, with stalls of low speed, high speed and

intermission, on the handle of auto combination switch# (he top of the handle is the key switch,

after pressing which water will erupt to wiper blade, of the scrubber# (he scrubber system,

consisting of plastic water tank D-#.E+ litersF, micro/electric centrifugal water pump, pipes,

spray no==les, is "ery ordinary equipment in automobiles# Water in the tank is supplied through

the pump to +E7 spray no==les, by which it is e4truded into trickles# (hen the trickles are

sprayed onto the windshield glass, to clean the glass with the wiper blade#

    -3+ EG4'65e& Selec&'o

3ydraulic :acks are portable de"ices used for raising hea"y objects by means of force applied

with a le"er orscrew# (he hydraulic jacks are compact and lightweight units that are used for

lifting capacities# (hey offer easy operation and are fast acting components# (he hydraulic jacks

come with inbuilt release pedal for rapid lowering and lugs that make it easy to mount# (he

hea"y duty chassis pre"ents the jack from twisting or bending and foot pump pro"ides fast lift to

    the load# It also has a safety o"erload "al"e that pre"ents o"erloading beyond rated capacity#

Gnlike the traditional screw type jack which has to be turned with a long handle, the hydraulic

jack uses oil pressure to displace DliftF the "ehicle by mere mo"ing a le"er or handle up and

down# (his is "ery easy to operate and with this e"en a child can operate and lift a "ehicle using

    the hydraulic jack#

)oth hydraulic jacks are pi"oted on the rectangular struts# (he one end of jack is fi4ed to frame#

(he rectangular Struts are kept hollow for reducing the weight# (he rectangular paddles are also

pi"oted on the other end of struts# 3ydraulic jacks are operated by -+ "olt !1 battery# At a single

time, one and two both jacks can work and "ehicle can lift from one side and also from two sides

    as per the requirement#

A hydraulic jack uses a fluid, which is incompressible, that is forced into a cylinder by a pump

plunger# 2il is used since it is self/lubricating and stable# When the plunger pulls back, it draws

oil out of the reser"oir through a suction check "al"e into the pump chamber# When the plunger

mo"es forward, it pushes the oil through a discharge check "al"e into the cylinder# (he suction

"al"e ball is within the chamber and opens with each draw of the plunger# (he discharge "al"e

ball is outside the chamber and opens when the oil is pushed into the cylinder# At this point the

suction ball within the chamber is forced shut and oil pressure builds in cylinder#+3. H"7ra4l'c >l4'7%

3ydraulic fluids are a large group of fluids used as the moti"e medium in hydraulic machinery#

8luid types include synthetic compounds, mineral oil, water, and water/based mi4tures# (he

fluids are found in machinery and equipment ranging from brakes, power steering systems, and

transmissions to backhoes, e4ca"ators, garbage trucks and industrial shredders# 3ydraulic

3ydraulic jacks transmit a small mechanical force through one small hydraulic cylinder to a

large hydraulic cylinder# (his results in a large mechanical force e4erted by the larger cylinder

Ddue to Pascal5s principle which states that the pressure in a closed system is the same

e"erywhereF# (his model uses a hand pump to power the smaller hydraulic cylinder# A circular

pipe transmits the hydraulic liquid from the smaller cylinder to the larger cylinder, with a check

"al"e to pre"ent backflow# (he larger cylinder lifts a load# (he mass of the load can be changed

to in"estigate the pressures generated in the hydraulic system#

3ydraulic cylinders get their power from pressuri=ed hydraulic fluid, which is typically oil# (he

cylinder consists of a cylinder barrel, in which a piston connected to a piston rod is mo"ing# (he

barrel is closed by the cylinder bottom and by the cylinder head where the piston rod comes out

of the cylinder# (he piston has sliding rings and seals# (he piston di"ides the inside of the

cylinder in two chambers, the bottom chamber and the piston rod side chamber# (he hydraulic

pressure acts on the piston to do linear work#

A hydraulic cylinder is the actuator or JmotorJ side of this system# (he JgeneratorJ side of the

hydraulic system is the hydraulic pump that brings a fi4ed or regulated flow of oil into the

rod# )y pumping hydraulic oil to the bottom side of the hydraulic cylinder, the piston rod starts

mo"ing upward# (he piston pushes the oil in the other chamber back to the reser"oir# If we

assume that the oil pressure in the piston rod chamber is =ero, the force on the piston rod equals

the pressure in the cylinder times the piston area# If the oil is pumped into the piston rod side

chamber and the oil from the piston area flows back to the reser"oir without pressure, the

pressure in the piston rod area chamber is Pull 8orceCDpiston area / piston rod areaF# In this way

the hydraulic cylinder can both push and pull#

    RACK AND PINION

A Nrack and pinion5 gears system looks quite unusual# 3owe"er, it is still composed of two gears#

(he Npinion5 is the normal round gear and the Nrack5 is straight or flat# (he Nrack5 has teeth cut in

A good e4ample of a Nrack and pinion5 gear system can be seen on trains that are designed to

A Nrack and pinion5 system is added to some trains to o"ercome this problem# A large gear wheel

is added to the centre of the train and an e4tra track is, with teeth, called a Nrack5 is added to the

track# As the train approaches a steep hill or slope the gear is lowered to the track and it meshes

with the Nrack5# (he train does not slip backwards but it is pulled up the steep slope#

A rack and pinion is a type of linear actuator that comprises a pair of gears which con"ert

rotational motion into linear motion# A circular gear called Jthe pinionJ engages teeth on a linear

JgearJ bar called Jthe rackJO rotational motion applied to the pinion causes the rack to mo"e

Instead, tools used in the shop were powered by a centrali=ed source which transferred the power

in "arious ways depending on the tool# Gsually it was through a system of wheels, belts or dri"eshafts# It was a large mechanical system that was way too bulky and way too e4pensi"e, and

2f course, the biggest ad"antage of compressors o"er a centrali=ed power source is their small

si=e, and the fact they don5t require a massi"e motor# (hey are also quieter, more durable, and

some of them are highly portable# )ut, I am getting way ahead of myself because you5re here to

find out how air compressors work#

Air compressors function based on a "ery simple principle# When the air is compressed, its

"olume decreases whereas the pressure increases#

(he most common way to achie"e this is with the help of a reciprocating piston# (here are

compressors which employ rotating impellers for the purpose of creating air pressure, but I will

discuss the different types in a separate article# (hose which are built around a reciprocating

piston are more common, and if you5re familiar with how internal combustion engines work, you

will know piston compressors function in a similar manner#

*ach reciprocating piston compressor has a crankshaft, connecting rod, a piston, cylinder, and a

"al"e head# In order for the entire mechanism to work, you need power# Air compressors are

usually powered by electricity or gas depending on the model# Most compressors also ha"e a

tank which is there to store compressed air for the purpose of keeping the air pressure within a

set range while powering "arious air tools#

At the top of e"ery compressor cylinder there is a "al"e head that contains both the inlet and

discharge "al"e which are basically metal flaps# (hese open and close and are located on top of

the "al"e plate# When the piston mo"es down inside the cylinder in the space abo"e the piston a

    "acuum is created#

An electronic circuit is composed of indi"idual electronic components, such as resistors,

transistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes, connected by conducti"e wires or traces through

which electric current can flow# (he combination of components and wires allows "arious simple

and comple4 operations to be performed& signals can be amplified, computations can be

performed, and data can be mo"ed from one place to another#

An electric circuit is a set of electrical components that are connected together in a loop with a

power source, that allows current DelectronsF to flow through them# We"e used them to great

to do much of our manual labor, found ways to communicate worldwide, and e"en put a human

on the Moon# 2ur world is completely different as a result#

Analog electronic circuits are those in which current or "oltage may "ary continuously with time

to correspond to the information being represented# Analog circuitry is constructed from two

fundamental building blocks& series and parallel circuits# In a series circuit, the same current

passes through a series of components#

A string of 1hristmas lights is a good e4ample of a series circuit& if one goes out, they all do# In a

parallel circuit, all the components are connected to the same "oltage, and the current di"ides

between the "arious components according to their resistance#

(he basic components of analog circuits are wires, resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and

transistors# DIn +-+ it was demonstrated that memristors can be added to the list of a"ailable

components#F Analog circuits are "ery commonly represented in schematic diagrams, in which

wires are shown as lines, and each component has a unique symbol# Analog circuit analysis

employs irchhoffs circuit laws& all the currents at a node Da place where wires meetF, and the

"oltage around a closed loop of wires is # Wires are usually treated as ideal =ero/"oltage

interconnectionsO any resistance or reactance is captured by e4plicitly adding a parasitic element,

such as a discrete resistor or inductor# Acti"e components such as transistors are often treated as

controlled current or "oltage sources& for e4ample, a field/effect transistor can be modeled as a

(here are different ways of categori=ing electric circuits# 2ne way is series "ersus parallel

circuits# A series circuit is a circuit where the components are connected in one continuous loop#

A parallel circuit is a circuit where the components are connected in separate branches# Most real

life circuits are combinations of these two concepts, since each type has ad"antages# When

something breaks in a series circuit, the whole circuit stops working# (his doesnt happen with

parallel circuits# A series circuit can therefore be useful for safety features like fuses, but not so

useful for 1hristmas lights# Series circuits are also cheaper to produce#

Another way of classifying circuits is to separate them by power type& direct current D!1F or

alternating current DA1F# !irect current is where the electricity flows in one direction#

Alternating current is where the electricity flows back and forth in both directions, usually

    switching 0 times a second#

(he current supplied by wall sockets is A1# (here are a number of reasons for this& for e4ample,

generating A1 electricity is easier, and you can transfer it o"er long distances without losing as

much energy along the way# 3owe"er, many de"ices, especially smaller ones, use !1 current#

Sometimes when a de"ice has a large bo4 as part of its power cord, thats because it is con"erting

A1 current into !1 current# Its much easier to do this in your home on a small scale than at the

     power station#

punctured# 3ydraulic jack system is attached to automobile "ehicle on front and rear part of the

chassis# An automobile hydraulic jack system can be easily attached to all currently manufacture

automobile chassis and frames# (here is a front suspension hydraulic jack that is mounted

centrally to the front suspension of an automobile between its front wheels# (here is also a rear

suspension hydraulic jack that is mounted centrally to therear suspension of the automobile

between its rear wheels# (he system operates from a compressed fluid reser"oirtank that has

connections for the front and rear car jack outlets# Additional outlets can be added to the

compressed fluid reser"oir tank for connecting a hydraulic lug wrench and another for a tire

    inflating hose#
