Parish Health Notes: Eclipse Eyeglass Safety:

Plan ahead to decide if you're going to make use of an indirect viewing method or to watch the eclipse directly by using eclipse glasses. If the latter, please check

the safety authenticity of viewing glasses to ensure they meet basic proper safety viewing standards. Eclipse viewing glasses and handheld solar viewers should meet all the following criteria: • Have certification information with a designated

ISO 12312-2 international standard • Have the manufacturer’s name and address

printed somewhere on the product • Not be used if they are older than three years,

or have scratched or wrinkled lenses • Not use homemade filters or be substituted for

with ordinary sunglasses—not even very dark ones—because they are not safe for looking directly at the Sun.

The American Astronomical Society has verified that these five manufacturers are making eclipse glasses and handheld solar viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for such products: American Paper Optics, Baader Planetarium (AstroSolar Silver/Gold film only), Rainbow Symphony, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17.

Cleaning Schedules Church Cleaning for Main Sanctuary, Saturday, August 19 (or whenever is convenient during the week): Jim Gardner and Nick Dressel Church Window Cleaning for the Month of August: Frances Gonzalez

When I was in Graduate School we had the opportunity to take classes during the month of January

at Protestant Seminaries. One January I was living and studying in Lexington, KY. I would go to mass at the Newman Center Chapel at the University of Kentucky. There was a visiting Priest there on Sunday and he talked about “Jesus with skin”. That was a life changing homily for me. Jesus the son of God touches us and journeys with us. He did unexplainable things in human, down to earth ways. We are baptized into Jesus’ death and resurrection which means we are not observers but bearers and sharers of the risen Christ. When a person receives the candle at their baptism we could say “keep Christ’s light burning bright” and “be Jesus with skin as you move through life”. Have a good week. Go forth. Calm some storms. Reach out as Jesus with skin. I am keeping in prayer all those folks who are in transition as we begin another school year. I am excited to have our college students back. I miss them during the summer. The college community has a long history with our Parish and they are a big part of the life of our Parish. Welcome back! Mark your calendar for Sunday the 27th, after mass. The Knights of Columbus are preparing breakfast. We will welcome back the college community. We will also have a blessing for all students and teachers at any level. Everyone in the Parish is invited to breakfast. Peace and all good things,

Fr. Todd

Social Ministry Quote “When we pray, the voice of the heart must be heard more than that proceeding from the mouth. St. Bonaventure

Families Grow Vocations. Teach the Lives of the Saints. Help your children grow, according to their age, in their relationship with God and knowledge of their faith. The lives of the saints are a great source of inspiration for children—and adults. Celebrate the patron saint days of your children. Help them to know who their patron saints are, as well as the virtues that marked their lives.

The Welcoming Committee will be serving refreshments after the masses on August 19-20. Robin Bila, Cathy Donohue and Ashley Stephens, Julie Bohnenkamp will be hosting.
