Baptism Request Forms are available at

held on the 1st Sunday of the month, must be scheduled by the

parents. Please call the parish office to schedule. Baptisms are

currently being celebrated up to 4 families at a time on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month in the

Mullica Hill Parish Center. Beginning in Sept, the 2nd Sunday Baptisms will return to St. Joseph

Church in Woodstown.

Marriage Please call the parish office for an appointment at least one year before the wedding to

begin preparation.

RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process designed for adults interested in becoming

Catholic and adults who would like to complete the sacraments

of initiation. Please contact the parish office.

Anointing of the Sick If you wish to receive the

Sacrament of the Sick or be visited by an Extraordinary Minister to receive Communion, please call

the parish office.

If you follow TV commercials or the

Internet, you find programs focused on health and nutrition. They feature “health care professionals” speaking about the benefits of some vitamins, supplements, and nutritional products that they are endorsing and trying to sell. They claim to improve memory, drop body fat, restore youthful vigor and vitality, reduce cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, slow the aging process, enhance heart health, eliminate joint pain, promote more restful sleep, relieve digestive disorders, and more. We are led to believe that these products are just what they need.

Imagine there was a product that promised more than all those products found on the market. Suppose there was an advertised product that guaranteed that those who took it would live forever. That outrageous claim would be met with skepticism, disbelief, and an investigation by the U.S. FDA. In today’s Sunday’s Gospel (John 6:41-51) Jesus offers a “product” that makes just such a claim. Jesus offers “the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.” Is it any wonder that “Jews murmured” when they heard this claim of Jesus? A claim made even more incredible when Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

We’ve heard those words of Jesus so often that we may not appreciate the statement that Jesus is making – eat this bread, live forever! The bread that Jesus offers us is a relationship with him. A relationship nourished by Word and Eucharist. Such a relationship cannot be broken by death. Just as the relationship between Jesus and our heavenly Father did not end by his death on the cross, so our relationship with Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life, does not end when we die. It lives on! “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever.” That claim makes unbelievers murmur – and believers rejoice!

White: Used for the seasons of Christmas and Easter and in celebrations of the Lord, of Mary, the angels, and saints who were not martyrs. This color is also used in Masses for the dead, at baptisms, weddings and other festive celebrations.

Red: As the color of both blood and fire, red is used on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, as well as Pentecost and special celebrations of the Holy Spirit. Moreover, red is used on the feasts and memorials of the Apostles and those saints who died as martyrs.

Violet: The color for Advent and Lent. Violet may also be used in Masses for the dead and on All Souls Day (November 2)

Green: A color of life and hope, green is used throughout Ordinary Time.

Rose: On the Third Sunday of Advent and the Fourth Sunday of Lent, the color rose may be worn as a sign of anticipated joy.

Gold or Silver: May be used on solemn occasions in place of white, red, or green.

Black: May be worn for funeral Masses (as can purple or white) and on All Souls ’ Day.

Church decorations and flowers usually reflect the vestment color.

Colors of Priest’s and Deacon’s Vestments What do they mean?

In the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, the colors of the vestments evolved over the course of several centuries and there was wide variation both in the colors used, and in the feasts and seasons associated with particular colors. It was Pope Innocent III (d. 1216) who gave us the basic outline that was later prescribed by Pope Saint Piux V in 1570. The sense of sight, including color, plays an important role in Catholic worship. The colors of a Catholic priests and deacons vestments help the faithful know that certain celebrations are at hand.

Sex-Selection Abortion in America

Our politicians sometimes talk about “a war on women.” This usually revolves around contraception and sadly, a policy disagreement is then characterized as a “war” for political purposes. So what would really constitute a “war”? Taking the lives of innocents, to start with. And in some places, it’s baby girls who are being targeted by abortion, because some people prefer to have a baby boy. It’s called sex-selection abortion. A test is done to determine the sex of an unborn child. Often, if the test shows the baby is a girl, she is aborted. We know that this occurs on a massive scale in Far East Countries such as China and India. However, tragically, it’s also happening right here in the United States. An Austin, Texas Planned Parenthood employee was recently caught on tape counseling a woman how to get a sex-selection abortion. These kinds of abortions are usually done in secret because they’re so disturbing to the public, but they are occurring. The struggle for gender equality has made great strides over the last several decades, but how can such discrimination and bias be allowed to take place in America? As with all things relating to abortion, so much is incongruous and perverse . . . so much is overlooked and swept under the carpet.

The Hyde Amendment and similar laws have protected taxpayers from funding elective abortion for 45 years. Now, powerful members of Congress want to take away these laws that both Democrats and Republicans have supported for

nearly half a century. Without it, millions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortion. That means abortions would be cheaper, easier, and funded with our taxpayer dollars. It is critically important for Catholics to send a strong message before Congress moves forward to impose taxpayer funded abortion.
