Desde el Escritorio del Padre Carlos Zoucha... Creemos en la comunión de los santos. Es parte de

nuestro credo y tradición. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica define la comunión de los santos como la unidad en Cristo de todos los redimidos, aquellos en la tierra y aquellos que han muerto. La comunión de los santos se profesa en el Credo de los Apóstoles, donde también se ha interpretado que se refiere a la unidad en las ‘cosas santas’, especialmente a la unidad de fe y caridad lograda mediante la participación en la Eucaristía. Otra definición común de un santo es una persona que practica la virtud heroicamente, que puede entenderse como una imitación de Jesús en la plenitud de su capacidad. Esto es posible para todos. Luchar por ser santos es donde tenemos la verdadera vida (Jn 10:10) y la verdadera alegría (Jn 15:11). Leer las vidas de los santos es una práctica recomendada para nuestra vida espiritual porque ciertamente encontraremos a alguien con una personalidad, disposición y situacion de vida similar, y ganamos la confianza de que también podemos ser santos. Como lo expresó un autor espiritual, Leon Bloy, ‘La única tragedia real en la vida es no ser un santo.’ Celebramos el Día de Todos los Santos este jueves pasado 1° de noviembre. ¡Que todos nos esforcemos para ser santos!

Recordamos a los seres queridos que han fallecido de nuestra parroquia este año pasado. Oramos por su reposo. Que descansen en paz. Este año pasado, 52 feligreses queridos fueron a Dios desde el Día de Todas las Almas, 2 de noviembre, 2017 a este 2 de noviembre, 2018. También tuvimos 320 bautismos en este mismo período. Somos una creciente comunidad de fe. Con ese crecimiento viene una gran responsabilidad. Ruego para que podamos cumplir con las responsabilidades de proporcionar los Sacramentos, enseñar la Fe y cuidar de los pobres.

Damos la bienvenida a un nuevo empleado, Martin Trujillo, como nuestro personal de mantenimiento que también ayudará con los deberes de custodia. Le he pedido a Eulalia Francisquez que se haga cargo de la publicación del boletín para nuestra parroquia. Estoy muy agradecido por el trabajo de DeAna Lara-Perea con el boletín estos últimos meses. DeAna continuará participando en el ministerio de música de nuestra parroquia.

Que Jesús proteja a Su Iglesia, cure a cualquier víctima de abuso y llama a la corrección de cualquier error que haya ocurrido o esté ocurriendo ahora. La Iglesia Católica es santa en su fundamento espiritual, pero puede ser dañada por las personas que forman la Iglesia, porque somos pecadores. Jesús garantiza que los fieles que están en la Iglesia vivirán como santos para siempre. Esta es una gran promesa. Que María y todos los santos nos inspiren a ser santos. Que todos los que nos han precedido, intercedan por nosotros, mientras oramos por ellos para que entren pronto como sea posible al Cielo.

We believe in the communion of saints. It is part of our creed and tradition. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines the communion of saints as the unity in Christ of all the redeemed, those on earth and those who have died. The communion of saints is professed in the Apostles’ Creed, where it has also been interpreted to refer to unity in the ‘holy things’, especially the unity of faith and charity achieved through participation in the Eucharist. Another common definition of a saint is a person who practices virtue heroically, which can be understood as imitating Jesus to the fullness of their capacity. This is possible for everyone. Striving to be saints is where we have true life (Jn 10:10) and true joy (Jn 15:11). Reading the lives of the saints is a recommended practice for our spiritual life because we will certainly find someone with similar personality, disposition, and life situations, and we gain a confidence that we can become saints also. As one spiritual author, Leon Bloy, put it, ‘The only real tragedy in life is not to become a saint.’ We celebrated All Saints’ Day this past Thursday, November 1st. May we all strive to be saints! We remember the loved ones who have passed away from our parish this past year. We pray for their repose. May they rest in peace. We had 52 beloved parishioners go to God this past year from All Soul’s Day, November 2, 2017, to this November 2, 2018. We also had 320 baptisms in this same period. We are a growing faith community. With that growth comes a great responsibility. I pray that we are able to fulfill those responsibilities of providing the Sacraments, teaching the Faith, and caring for the poor. We welcome a new employee, Martin Trujillo, as our maintenance person who will also help with the custodial duties. I have asked Eulalia Francisquez to take over the bulletin publication for our parish. I am very thankful for DeAna Lara-Perea’s work with the bulletin for these past months. DeAna will continue to be involved with our parish’ music ministry.

May Jesus protect His Church, heal any victims of abuse, and call to correction any errors that have occurred or are occurring now. The Catholic Church is holy in her spiritual foundation yet can be marred by the people who make up the Church, because we are sinners. Jesus guarantees that the faithful who are in the Church will live as saints forever. This is a great promise. May Mary and all the saints inspire us to be holy. May all those who have gone before us intercede for us, as we pray for them so they enter as soon as possible into Heaven.

From the Desk of Fr. Rafael Majano...

Desde el Escritorio del Padre Rafael Majano…. Querida Comunidad Asunción-Guadalupe, una vez más gracias por leerme una vez. Cada vez que estoy escribiendo mi mensaje de cada mes recuerdo lo rápido que se pasa el tiempo. Hoy el Evangelio de San Marcos nos hace pensar en la gran sabiduría de Jesús, muchos lo seguían por esa sabiduría con la que hablaba. Ya vemos que la gente lo consideraba “Maestro”. El por medio de sus enseñanzas hacia que muchos vivieran de la misma manera. Jesús en ese ensenar fue cuestionado muchas veces, le preguntaban de todo. En relato de hoy es un “estudiado” digamos y su pregunta ciertamente preocupaba a más de uno. ¿Cuál es el primero de todos los mandamientos?. Como queriendo decir: ¿Qué tenemos que hacer primeramente en la vida para que todo salga bien? Vemos como Jesús le responde: “Escucha, Israel: El Señor,

nuestro Dios, es el único Señor; Amaras al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas.” Esa era la fuerza de Jesús, eso era lo primero y determinante en su vida: “amar a Dios con todo su corazón”. Sin embargo vemos que en medio de esa respuesta Jesús añade algo que no se le había preguntado, diciendo: “Amaras a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”. Y de esta forma resume todo lo bueno que debemos hacer en la vida tanto en nuestros valores cristianos como morales. No perdamos de vista entonces el mensaje que Jesús nos quiere dejar hoy: Que “Amando” es la única forma que podemos servirle a Dios y a nuestros hermanos. Si en nuestro comportamiento como individual, como en la vida social, en nuestra vida de fe, o en nuestra participación en la política hay algo que va en contra de ese “Amor” o en disminución del mismo, entonces no sirve para la construcción de un mundo más humano. Sin “amor” no podemos lamentablemente progresar. Vemos como para Jesús, Dios y nuestros hermanos son inseparables. Es imposible amar a Dios y desentendernos de nuestros hermanos. Tengamos mucho cuidado porque cuando ocurre que nos despreocupamos de nuestros hermanos nos podemos encontrar en la practica de una religión “egoísta”, es allí donde nos podemos encontrar con una fe muerta porque no tiene obras. Recordemos que no existe un ámbito sagrado en el que podamos tener un encuentro con Dios “a solas” ignorando a nuestro hermano, al que me rodea. Es imposible decir “amo a Dios” olvidando al que sufre. Esto seria una simple mentira, lo que es contrario al amor, también va en contra de Dios. Suyo en Cristo, Dios los bendiga, Padre Rafael

Dear Assumption-Guadalupe Community, once again thank you for reading me once more. Every time I'm writing my monthly message I remember how quickly time goes by. Today the Gospel of Saint Mark it makes us think of the great wisdom of Jesus, many followed him by that wis-dom with which he spoke. We see that people consid-ered him "Teacher". Through his teachings he made many live in the same way. Jesus in that teaching was questioned many times, they asked him about everything. In today's gospel is a "study" let's say and his question certainly worried more than one. What is the first of all the commandments? As in meaning: What do we have to do first in life so that everything goes well? We see how Jesus replies: "Listen, Israel: The Lord, our God, is the only lord; You will love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. " That was the strength of Jesus, that was the first and decisive in his life: “love God with all your heart.” Yet we see that in the midst of that answer Jesus adds something that had not been asked, saying, "You will love your neighbor as yourself." And in this way he sums up all the good things we have to do in life in our Christian and moral values. Lets not lose sight of the message that Jesus wants to leave us today: That "loving" is the only way we can serve God and our brothers. If in our behavior as indi-viduals, in social life, in our life of faith, or in our partic-ipation in politics there is something that goes against this "love" or diminishing it, then it does not work for the construction of a more human world. Without "love" we cannot unfortunately progress. We see as for Jesus, God and our brothers are insepara-ble. It is impossible to love God and to be carefree from our brothers. Be very careful because when it happens that we are carefree of our brothers we can find to be in the practice of a "selfish" religion, there is where we can find a dead faith because it has no works. Remember that there is no sacred area in which we can have a meeting with God "alone" ignoring our brother, who surrounds me. It is impossible to say "I love God" forgetting the one who suffers. This would be a plain lie, which is contrary to love, and also goes against God. Yours in Christ, God bless you, Father Rafael
