What’s Happening in Level 2?

Assistant Principals

What’s Happening in Level 1?

We have really enjoyed Education Week in Level One. Each morning we have been trying hard to break the secret code and be the first class to get the answer. Open day and night on Tuesday were a great success. Thank you to everyone who visited the classrooms. Today the whole school participated in a multi-age activity. This was a great opportunity to work with children from other levels and a different teacher. The magnify-ing glass faces along the front fence look amazing! If you haven’t had the chance, take and look and see if you can break the name codes! As part of our ‘You Can Do It’ program we are now learning about organ-isation and how this can help us to be productive learners. How organ-ised is your child? We will be learning all about this and strategies to help in the coming weeks!

Wow! The term is flying by! Thankyou everyone for coming to visit the classrooms on open day. The students loved the opportunity to show you what they have been working on during the term. We have been hard at work writing some fantastic and imaginative nar-ratives. The students have shown real creative flare and a knack for storytelling. Next week we will be beginning our procedural writing unit. You can help by getting the kids in the kitchen to help in cooking some yummy treats. Ask your child to help read through each step in the reci-pe as you go.

In mathematics we have been learning about multiplication over the last couple of weeks. The kids have been busy making arrays and solving tricky equations using both vertical and horizontal strategies. Next week we will begin working with fractions so start talking about halves and quarters at home! Don’t forget to keep reading at home and make sure you are taking home a reader every night! Hope everyone has a great week, Level 2 Team

Education Week We’ve loved celebrating Education Week here at APPS this week. Cracking the codes each day has kept us very busy and we’ve loved the challenge this has presented us each day. It was fantastic to see so many people at our Open Day and Night on Tuesday. How fantastic are our choir and aerobics teams!! It has been an absolute pleasure to conduct guided tours of our wonderful school during this special week as well. What a great way to celebrate education in Victoria. Thanks again to Sophie Panou and the Education Week team for planning such a ‘cracking’ week!! Classroom Helpers Just a reminder that next Wednesday 27th May from 9am-10.30am Tim will run a session which will combine all three of the classroom helpers sessions from Term 1. This condensed version will be held in the library. Please come along if you are interested in this session, which will cover being a classroom helper, along with helping specifically with reading and writing in our classrooms. No need to RSVP to this session. Instrumental lessons – last call! If your child is interested in learning the trumpet or a woodwind instru-ment, please let Tim know by this Friday 22nd May at the latest and I

can contact Junior Rockers so we can get the music started. Production Each family would have received a letter about this year’s production on Monday. If you did not, please let the office know and we can get a copy to you. The dates this year for production are Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th of August. Pop them in your diaries now! Congratulations!! A big congratulations to Amy Holt and her husband Simon on the safe arrival of Holly Isabelle last Thursday. Scarlett loves being a big sister and adores little blonde Holly so much already! Have a wonderful week

ahead.

Tim & Annette

A reminder that the science incursion note was due on Wednesday 20th. Please return the payment and permission envelope if you have not done so. We are looking forward to our incursion next Wednesday. For parents of girls, please don’t dress them in tights on their PMP day. PMP is completed with no shoes and socks and getting tights on and off can be difficult in the short amount of time. Thank you for your help. Our letter of the week is ‘Oo’ and the blend is ‘oo’ as in zoo. Next week we will be learning about ‘Ll’ and ‘all’. In maths our focus this week is on location and direction and next week will be on ordinal number. Hope you’re having a great week! Level One Elizabeth, Stacey, Lauren and Sophie

PARKING..A Reminder…. Parking at the front of the school is always a problem as parking spaces are limited. Parents are in-

formed that double parking is not only illegal but is also very dangerous. Additional parking is available

across the road or in the car park at Antonio Park and along Deep Creek Road.

To be considerate and respectful to our business neighbours…please take note of the following: Several local businesses have requested that parents do not use their customer car park when picking up and

dropping off students. Please be mindful of parking signs in the area in particularThe school has been ad-

vised by some of our local outlets/companies that they will start having cars towed away.

Your cooperation would be appreciated.

Please do not use the car park in the school as this is reserved for the staff.

What’s Happening in Level 3?

What’s Happening in Level 4?

What a fun week we have been having puzzling over codes as part of Education Week. Did you know that the faces on the front fence all have the creator’s name in code on the handle? Can you work out your child’s name or can you tell which is their face? We think they all look fabulous. There was a great turnout for open night. It was lovely to see the Level 3 students enthusiastically sharing their work with their parents and friends. The displays around the classroom walls are a testament to the fantastic learning the students have been doing this year.

Sport. This week we will be playing Holy Spirit and all students need to check where they are playing. Parents are always more than welcome to come and watch their child play. Year 6 Transition. Please remember to return the transition form to school as they are overdue. Forms returned after tomorrow will not be able to be accepted as we have a strict department timeline to adhere to. Thank you. District Cross Country. Our District cross country is on Tuesday 26th May and we wish all Level 4 and 3 students participating in this event the best of luck. Well done to

all of the students who have been training at school and by themselves for this event. It will be held at Domeney reserve in Park Orchards. A big thank you to Ben and Michael who have been training the team over the last couple of weeks! Education Week – Open Night. Thank you to all the parents who attended our Open Night and endeav-oured to crack some codes with their child. It was also great to have some parents visit our classrooms during the day to observe the students work-ing and in some cases assisting in the classroom. Thank you! Level 4 Team

Over the past 2 terms we have been explicitly teaching word processing skills to the students. In a day where iPads are a great I.C.T tool to engage students, it is really important to have an excellent understanding of Microsoft Word to give them real world skills…..unfortunately you cannot type high school assignments, university essays or complete exams on an iPad! At home, let your children show you the skills they have learnt by typing up a piece of work and then decorating it in Microsoft Word. Just be wary that different versions of Word may have buttons in different places which may cause confusion!

ICT in Level 2

We have the Level 3 camp information evening on Monday night next week. We would like all parents to attend to ensure that we can an-swer any questions you may have. The final payment for the camp is due on May 25th. The Level 3 Team

Kate’s Weekly Wellness Tips

Tips for FUSSY eaters 1. Try new foods YOURSELF in front of your kids. 2. Shop, cook and/or 'put the meal together' with them. 3. Try not to label foods as ‘fattening' or 'good vs bad', Try to use the terms 'good for my strong

body' or 'makes my tummy a little sore if I eat that' and never use the word 'fat' to describe yourself in front of your children, (or at all for that matter!)

4. Parents please know that you are in charge of food education for your kids. Kate Martin Personal Trainer/Wholistic Health Coach/APPS Mum

Camp Australia

What's on this week: Craft: This week we have been making puppets and a theatre for everyone to let their imaginations go wild. We have sewn together finger puppets and glued bits to make other kinds of puppets using pegs and paper bags. Cooking: The kids have chosen to make a brownie slice this week, we've also had popcorn and corn chips as an extra treat to go along with all our yummy fruit and vegetables. Inside: We have had lots of children stay inside with the weather getting colder, so more people have been playing games and using all the construc-tion toys to build amazing things. We also have card games and board games as well to keep everyone interested. Outdoors: The oval has been great for those keen footy players and also the soccer players as well. It is getting a bit wet and muddy so all children are reminded to keep out of the mud. Everyone loves the playground and it’s always a popular place to go. The playground offers children to be imagi-native and also build their skills with all the great climbing equipment and challenge themselves, especially on the monkey bars.
