Dear Antonio Park Families,
A Message From Our School Council President
Some of you may not be aware but one of our school
community families had an incident with a vehicle at
the Whitehorse Road school traffic lights on 16 May.
Due to this incident and many other near misses at
this intersection we have again written to VicRoads,
Council and Dee Ryall (State Member) asking them to
look at the traffic light situation with a view to making it
safer for all.
While it is still early days, I am happy to inform you
that Dee Ryall has taken action and informed the
Minister of Transport, and Whitehorse Council have
done work within their confines along the service road
out the front of school. Lately, VicRoads have made
contact to meet with the school to discuss this matter..
Stay tuned for more updates.
Regards
Tim Stuchbery
School Council President
Aerobics
On behalf of APPS community, I would like to wish our
aerobics teams Aurum Stars, Little Minions, Mini Rock
Stars and Super Shouters all the best for the National
Competitions this weekend. We have 26 students
participating in the competition, along with their
families and staff this will make approximately 80
APPS community members attending the Nationals
this year. Enjoy the much warmer weather!!!!!
House Athletics
It was a fabulous day on Wednesday at our House
Athletics event. All of the events were extremely well
organised and the students were provided with great
experiences and opportunities. Thank you to Mr. Mac
for his organisation and co-ordination of the day.
Thank you to the staff and parents who managed the
individual events. It was lovely to see so many families
there providing a big cheer and encouragement.

Congratulations to everyone celebrating a

Aussies of the week
Well done to all the families still arriving at school on time despite the cold mornings! Production is beginning to have a greater focus in our level as we start to learn our dance moves. Watch for notices coming home giving details about costumes. Next week our spelling focus is on the letter V and words ending in ‘atch’. In writing we are completing poetry before moving onto procedural writing. In Maths we will be exploring the concept of
Assistant Principals
subtraction. Not only have we been discussing healthy eating this week, we have continued exploring how to keep safe. The visit from the Firefighters was very informative and interesting. We look forward to their second visit! Next week we will look at how exercise contributes to a healthy lifestyle. We continue to explore ways to be resilient in the ‘You Can Do It’ program. Stay warm! Level 1 Team
What a wonderful night it was at the Art Show! The student work was amazing and the ‘living statues’ added an air of excitement to the show! Well done to Janet and all of our student for the fabulous display! Please visit the hall and the main building where the art work is
still on display!
Poetry is alive and well at APPS! The students have been poets for the last 4 weeks and have created wonderful imaginative, calming, fun and sensitive poems on a range of topics.
You Can Do It! Yes you can!
As part of the program, we have posters displayed in all rooms of the school; classrooms and specialist areas. These posters are an important part of the
consistent approach to the YCDI Program. One poster is an Emotional Thermometer which students can refer to when describing how they are feeling at any point in time.
The other is a Catastrophe Scale… ‘HOWBADZZAT! ‘(How bad is it really?) poster and is used when students are feeling overwhelmed or ‘bad’. They can refer to the poster and see where the issue they have sits on the scale. These posters help create discussions around resilience and how we can put things in perspective in our lives. This is a great way for students to express their feelings and empower them with confidence to deal with many situations.
Library News…a big thank you to Angela, one of our Level 1 parents, who donated many copies of a beautiful book from the Koorie Heritage Trust Inc for us all to enjoy. The book is titled Nick’s Amazing Journey, written and illustrated by Lisa Kennedy, descended from the Trawlwoolway people of North-East Tasmania and born in Victoria. She has worked on many projects within the Koorie and wider communities. We will all be able to enjoy this book together in our classrooms.
Have a great week ahead!

What’s Happening In Level 1?
We are very excited to be starting our Level 2 Swimming Program this Monday. Our program will run each day for the next two weeks at the Nunawading Pool. Our swimming times are: 2CC, 2LM & 2CN: 12:10 – 1:00pm 2JS & 2BW: 1:00 – 1:50pm 2MN & 2BC: 1:50 – 2:40pm

Each grade is very excited to have begun their production dance. Weekly practises are now taking place for this fabulous event at the end of the term. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for a class notice which will inform you of your child’s costume needs. We would kindly welcome any donations of tissue boxes to your child’s grade during this wintery season. Thank you, The Level 2 team
The students are well under way with their Commonwealth Country projects. It is great to see them utilise their research and ICT skills to discover new information about their topic. The work for this project is being completed during school time, but students may want to find additional information at home and are more than welcome to add this
to their project. Level 3 Hoop Time Some of our Level 3 students participated in the Hoop Time basketball competition last Wednesday at Maroondah Indoor Sports Stadium. We are always so proud of our students and the way they conduct themselves when away from the school, they were once again wonderful representatives of Antonio Park! Well done to all of the students for their effort, a great day was had by all! Thank you to the parents who helped coach teams and score, we couldn’t have done it without you. You can check out some of the action in the photo collage
over the page. Swimming Forms Keep returning those swimming forms as the program is coming quickly! We will need the permission envelope and blue medical form returned
with payment. Thank you to those families who have already done so. Athletics What a brilliant day we had on Wednesday at the House Athletics competition. As always, students put in their best effort and it was great to see many students try something new on the day. Well done to all of Level
3! Homework Just a reminder that homework is due tomorrow. As previously mentioned, we have decided to distribute homework on a Wednesday, with the due date
remaining as the following Friday. Level 3 Camp Notices regarding Level 3 camp will be sent home tomorrow. Please note the important dates enclosed for payment and return of medical information. This is an exciting time for students, please see your classroom teacher if
you have any questions regarding the camp. Enjoy the rest of your week!
Production News Production rehearsals are well underway and now it’s time to turn our attention to organising costumes. We are asking all students to bring to school, in a named plastic bag, a tight fitted long sleeved black top and fitted black pants/jeans. Could students please have these at school by August 26th. If you have any spare pants or tops it would be great if you could give them to your child’s classroom teacher. We will be taking class production photos next Thursday 14th August. All students will be required to be in full school uniform. Hoop Time- Wednesday 13th August Excitement is building as Level 4 Hoop Time fast approaches. We are still looking for three parent helpers to assist with scoring or coaching on the day. Students will be playing between 4 and 6 games beginning at 9.30 and ending at approximately 2.30. Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if you can help out.
40 Hour Famine Many Level 4 students are joining forces to bring hunger down by doing the 40 Hour Famine, and they need your help. The students have decided to give up something, but you don't have to do anything that hard. Instead, you can use the link below or head on over to the 40 Hour Famine page, search for Antonio Park and donate using the ‘Give Now’ button. Second hand clothes for the Fete!!! As you all know, next year there will be a clothing stall at the fete. After some thought and discussion, we have decided to include children's clothes as well as adults. So when sorting out those clothes that are now too small/unwanted/out of season, please keep us in mind and drop items off at the office. Thank you. Kate Smith. 2BC Trash'n treasure stall coordinator.
Camp Australia:
This week in OSHC some of our activities include: Craft: We have been starting on a new mural for one of our walls so we can brighten up the room more. Children have started making fish and other sea creatures which is what we will be doing all week, as well as we have been decorating a table cloth for breakfast time. Cooking: A few children have been wanting to make all things chocolate so we will be making choc-coconut slice, chocolate and vanilla swirl cake and plenty more yummy treats. We also have our pancake Fridays for breakfast. Inside: This week everyone has been more creative with their cubby house building, using the cushions, blankets and everything they can find. Some of the popular games this week have been Guess Who, Uno, Chess and Checkers and Connect 4. Outdoors: We have been out enjoying the few moments of sunshine this week, playing games from football to basketball, having running races and using the skipping ropes. We have also been using both playgrounds where children have been playing tiggy and building on their monkey bar skills.
Working together at home
Keeping our house looking like a home is a tricky task. It is impossible for one person to do this so we must work as a team to keep our house
looking like a home. A few easy things you can do:
Make your bed—who wants to do this when you’re tired and it’s bed time. Prepare and do it when you get up!
If you can’t get out of it, get into it—If you have to do it, you might as well enjoy it. For example, the dishes are not going to wash
themselves! Put on some music, sing along (YOU’RE the one washing, you can listen/sing to whatever you want!) and marvel at the
clean sink when you’re finished
Do small favors and don’t expect anything in return. Makes someone’s bed, push their chair in, empty the dishwasher. It is a well
known fact: when you do good, you feel good!
