今日头条 helps online journalism develop.
The popularity of 今日头条 reflects people’s requirement for personalization. 今日头条 not only helps users to find news that suits their taste but also helps media institution find their targeted readers.
The production pattern of UGC enables users to act as citizen journalists, capturing the moment news event happened and uploading it onto the Internet.
My thoughts
今日头条 has its disadvantages.
Lack of editing check may lead to a consequence that the information users upload is low-quality, false or outdated.
Relying on machine algorithm without content filtering, there is a high risk that users tend to be addicted to porn news and violent news.
Copyright also can be a problem. To cover information as much as possible 今日头条 need to cooperate with a large quantity of media agents so as to get the right to distribute their contents, which takes a great deal of capital and effort.
