Thanks for the time off. We got to spend some time with my brother in Olathe, Kansas, and with our daughter’s family in Texas. I got some stuff done around the yard and house that needed doing. And it was good to get a break from my constant preparations. One of the highlights was visiting the church I
pastored before I came to Hot Springs. About two years after we moved here, our former church began to experience great difficulties. A few years after that, a scandal rocked the church. The congregation was declining at a rapid rate. But about three years ago, the church came under the umbrella of a church in Kansas, and the church is now on its feet again and be-ginning to grow and thrive. They are not yet where they were when we left, but they will be there and beyond soon. The church’s struggles had been one of my greatest griefs. The church revitalization is one of my greatest joys. We got to see a church in revival and numerous old friends. It was a joy! And while I was out, you were blessed with great preaching. Thanks for your faithfulness. Our staff always does a great job in my absence, and like you, I am so very grateful for their work and leadership week in and week out. Now it’s time to move into a new school year. I hope you’ll prayer-walk at one of the local schools this Saturday morning. And I look forward to seeing you involved in the “Come On In Carnival” the next two Sundays. As fall approaches we want you to know places you can con-nect for personal growth and ways you can serve God alongside others. Browse the opportuni-ties that will be available to you in the foyer these next two weeks. And get involved as God leads you. This Sunday our worship focus will be personal growth—availing ourselves of oppor-tunities to go deeper in our faith and knowledge. See you Sunday. Your Pastor, John

groups, as well as all kinds of ongoing service and mission opportu-nities.

invite and make people feel welcome and wanted!
Please invite all your people to be present for Picture Day. Please ask someone from a group next door to take a picture at the end of the hour. Print a 5x7 and put it in the frame outside your door. This not

7-UP: For Incoming 7th Graders and Their Parents Saturday, August 15th 10:30-3:00
The time is quickly approaching for the transition from the Children’s Ministry to the Youth Ministry for a large group of our students! If you are the parent of a soon-to-be 7th grader, you should have already received a letter a few months ago about 7-UP and another late last week, but if we somehow missed contacting you-please contact me (Bill) and I’ll get you all the info! This will be a time of seeing a snap-shot of the youth ministry, partnering our incoming youth with an older Sr High youth for the coming year, doing a par-ent orientation to the youth ministry and having lunch/fellowship time. There is no cost for this, but it would be very helpful to let me know you are coming so we can plan the food ac-cordingly. If you are planning on coming and haven’t already let me know, please do so. Looking forward to a great year and a great 7-UP to get these new youth started off right!
