Towaw 34th Annual Bull Sale TOWAW CATTLE CO. LTD.

Welcome to the 2013 Towaw & Guest Annual Bull Sale!2013 is a great time to be in the cattle business and to that end we bring you a group of bulls that we are very proud of. They are diverse

in their pedigrees, sound, exercised, and ready to work under a variety of conditions. Our core principle is to provide our customers

with genetics that will positively affect their potential for profit. That is why we run our cattle much like our commercial customers;

putting pressure on the cow herd for feed efficiency, fertility, and soundness, and giving no excuses when it comes to culling if the

cattle let us down in any of those categories. Cattle producers are poised to take advantage of lower cattle numbers and we believe our

genetics can add to your profitable future.

For those of you new to our operation we are a family outfit, managed by Kirk and Jill and Dave and Gail. With Mom and Dad

spending much of the winter in Phoenix, and Dad spending some time in the summer in the mountains, there isn’t any time for

coddling the cattle or adding labor needs to our operation. The cows must thrive on low input feed, basically a hay and grass ration,

no grain, and come back with a good calf year after year. In the footnotes you will notice many bulls that go back to older cows and

strong cow families. You know these families have stayed sound, bred, and raised a good calf under tough conditions. We are not

willing to risk your, our customers, genetics by picking some new bull of the day and flushing heifers that haven’t proven their way. As

an example the genetics imported from Argentina are based on a bull we saw as a nine year old and viewed hundreds of progeny of

before we introduced him into our program. The bulls are fed a high roughage TMR ration in large 2-3 acre pens so they are lean and

ready to work once they are put out with the cows. Because of their development we certainly don’t get many bulls back with breeding

problems, but if there are problems, we keep extra bulls to provide backup. The bulls all pass a semen test prior to selling but please

observe them breeding naturally and call us first if there are any problems.

We are excited to offer some new and exciting genetics to this year’s sale offering. The Argentine

embryo calves have exceeded all expectations and have created quite a bit of interest. The first heifer

we sold was at Red Roundup this year and set the record for all time high selling bred heifer for

$38,000 to Badlands and Severance Red Angus in North Dakota. She was sired by Red Pastoriza

565 Brigadier as are all the Argentine bulls in the sale. Another new bull for this year is Red Lazy

MC Kingman 16W, and his calves have really done well here. They are high on calving ease, muscle

and feed efficiency, and he really put a stamp on all his progeny. I think he is the “changer” we have

been looking for. Whether it is bulls for heifers or cows we think there are some strong choices for

your appraisal this year.Again this year, Dave and Rhonda Bablitz and family, of Rainbow Red Angus, will be selling their

strong group of yearlings in the sale with us. They have a great program and their bulls sell with the

same guarantee as the Towaw bulls. Dave and Rhonda are donating the commercial heifer this year

that will be drawn for in the Dutch Auction format. This year the proceeds will be donated to the

Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton, a facility that treats sick kids from Northern Alberta and

adjoining provinces as well. Over $4500 was donated to the Barrhead Community Cancer centre

last year, and thanks to you, our customers and friends, nearly $35,000 has been

donated to worthy charities with this format.

New for this year we will be starting the sale at 2:00; hopefully this will give our

customers a little more time to get chores done and view the bulls prior to the

sale. We will be selling by the Video system again this year, so bidding will be

available online with DLMS.ca. For those of you not able to attend the sale, our

sight unseen program is available, we just ask that you call ahead a bit so we can put

the time in to ensure you get the right bull.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 and we hope our customers and friends, both repeat

and new, can stay for a meal, refreshments and conversation after the sale.

We purchased him in partnership with Ter-Ron farms as the high seller in Lazy MC’s 2010 bull sale for $21,000. He has an outcross pedigree for our herd and has passed on his thickness, ease of fleshing and calving ease to his sons. He has naturally bred upwards of 250 females in three years of breeding and always stays in great shape. We are excited to see how good his daughters are going to work in our herd as they start to calve this May.

He was incredibly deep sided, easy fleshing and thick. Over 150,000 units of semen were sold in South America in his lifetime and he sired top cattle in many herds in Argentina. His progeny exhibit the same easy fleshiness and are incredibly thick topped and big hipped. The females look really good as his first daughter to sell in North America sold for $38,000 in last year’s 40th Red Roundup Sale. Definitely strong outcross genetics from this great sire.

Malbec is a dark red, very deep bodied, performance bull with an excellent mother. His dam averaged a whopping 123 weaning index on her first three heifer calves, then lost her fourth calf at birth and we put her into embryo production for Argentina. When she was done being flushed we bred her to Basin EXT and thus we have our first calf for sale from our new herdsire. Expect many sons in next year’s sale as they weaned off heavy and look great. Malbec is a half brother to the US National Champion bull from Denver this year, Benchmark Better Beef, shown by Six Mile and raised by Benchmark, our partners in Basin EXT 45T5. He has an amazing set of EPDs with top 10 percentile rankings for WW, YW, Milk, Total Maternal, Marbling and Carcass weight, and in the 20th percentile for rib eye area. Like the fine red wine Malbec is named after, we think he is only going to get better with time. Retaining 1/2 semen interest.

Invictus is a bull that grabs your attention with his attractive front end and head and then will blow you away with the amount of muscle and hip he possesses. He stood second in class to the eventual Reserve Bull calf in his division at Agribition. Being a Brigadier son, he carries a red gene, and gets the black hide from some highly proven American Angus bulls in Saugahatchee, Oscar 711, and Executive 727. This mating has proven very successful for La Pastoriza with full siblings to 11Z twice topping the black division of their annual sale. Charisma 33Y is extremely deep bodied, with good testicles, and that herd bull look about him. His mother is an excellent young cow, deep and correct with a very good udder. We are flushing her right now due to her production and the strength of her pedigree. She comes from the same Monique cow family that produced the Diamond T Hips Stout bull that sold in Denver a couple years back for $39,000. We used 33Y on a group of heifers last year and are eagerly awaiting the resulting calves. If you want easy fleshing, early maturing, grass converters we think this bull has the “Charisma” to get the job done.Retaining 1/2 semen interest.

These bulls are bred and raised the same as all the Towaw bulls and carry the same guarantee. Calidad means “Quality” in Spanish and that really explains this bull. He has a very nice head, lots of top, and good muscling. We used him on a group of cows last year and he came through the season in good shape, being a July born calf and breeding cows by mid August. He has plenty of length of body and frame and did well on feed. A full brother to Calidad was one of the crowd favorites at the World Angus Secretariat tour at La PAstoriza in Buenos Aires province. In his dam’s pedigree we find the two time Palermo Champion, Quebracho, and Grand Canyon from the States. He has been DNA tested free of the recessive gene for Osteopetrosis (OS). Towaw 34th Annual Bull Sale RAINBOW RED ANGUS

Welcome again to the annual Towaw bull sale. We at Rainbow Red Angus are honored to be involved with the Wildman family and be guest consignors at the Towaw

bull sale. The Wildman’s are truly an extraordinary family who brings everything to the table when it comes to home life,

community and of course the Angus industry! Our thanks go out to the “gang” that makes up TOWAW!

As I write these notes we continue to see a stronger market with feeder cattle trading at a much higher level than we have

seen in past years. The futures continue to stay strong which provides much needed optimism in the beef industry.

Again this year we fed our bulls at home. Our feeding program is based on growing out bulls slow and easy in order to

provide a breeding bull that will hold his condition. They were grazed free of creep feed and weaned in the beginning of

September. Our bulls have been on a complete low starch pellet ration and free choice hay all winter. As well our cattle are

on a full herd health program. We feel that this years’ bull pen is another uniform, complete set of bulls. They are backed by functional, maternal moderate

framed, easy doing cows that are treated the same as our commercial her. We believe that any of the bulls we are offering

today would compliment any heifer bull program. Please take time to look over pedigree and EPD’s. If you require any

other information please feel free to contact us as we would be glad to assist you in finding a bull that well be right for your

program! This past year we were once again involved in Red Round Up. A huge thank-you to Christy Collins and U2 Ranch

for purchasing Red Rainbow Lois 13Z, the high selling heifer calf at Red Round-Up 2012. Your support is very much

appreciated! Also we would like to extend a huge “THANK-YOU” to all of our past buyers, bidders and supporters of

Rainbow Red Angus. We look forward to seeing old friends, neighbors and valued customer on April 6th 2013. If you have any questions please

feel free to call (780)785-2813 or (780)785-9115. Stop in, the coffee is always on!

PROTOCOL is one exceptional herd bull prospect!! From day one he has been at the top of the bull calf crop at Rainbow Red Angus. This popular calf made friends at the C.R.A.P.S. tour this past summer, again at the Olds Fall Classic, where he was bull calf champion and finishing off last fall as a class winner at the Red Round Up bull futurity. Protocol’s sire has been turning heads lately, siring our $12,000 high selling heifer at Red Round Up to Christy Collins and U2 Ranch. Let’s not forget that the dam of the Denver Reserve National Champion female is a 7136T daughter. 7136T sires extremely marketable cattle with loads of eye appeal and sound feet and legs. His females make up a large portion of the young, productive cows in our herd. Protocol’s dam 34P is a big bodied no miss cow with a very functional udder. A full sister, 17X, is an outstanding young cow and maternal brothers have sold well in the past. Protocol himself is maybe the best bull ever raised at Rainbow Red Angus. He is totally full of muscle from end to end and stands on perfectly structured feet and legs. We plan to use 22Z in our program but because of the large number of related females, we have decided to only retain a 1/3 semen interest and use him selectively in our herd. He has a lot to offer the breed and the cattle industry alike.Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

This year Dave and Rhonda and family will be donating the commercial heifer for charity at

the sale. We will sell tickets in the Dutch Auction format, $10 per ticket prior to selling bulls

at the sale. If you bid $100 you will get 10 chances to win the heifer in the draw immediately

following the sale. Tickets will be available right up until the time of the draw as well.

are extremely lucky to have a world renowned facility

to treat sick kids so close to us in the area.

It serves patients across Northern Alberta,

and neighboring provinces as well. The
