Legacy

HOST CITY SHOWCASE PROGRAM

Toronto's Pan Am /Parapan Am Games Host City Showcase Program was

endorsed by City Council in July 2013. Up to $20M will be invested in

Showcase Program initiatives to support the City's economic development

and tourism, sport development and healthy living, resident engagement and

cultural celebration goals, and to extend the benefits of the Games to all parts

of Toronto.

1. $2.5M for a Public Celebration & Cultural Festival in Nathan Phillips

Square;

2. $2.7 M for a Host City Welcome & Engagement Program to support

Games related marketing and communication activities, and enhanced visitor

and business services;

3. $14 M for 28 innovative projects which will leverage the profile of the

Games to advance City Council endorsed objectives.

HOST CITY SHOWCASE PROJECTS

PAN AM PATH Multi-Use Path that will connect over 80 kilometers of Toronto’s trails East to

West of the City.

•Proposed route:

•Will connect key Pan Am & Parapan Am Games sites

•Will run from the edge of Brampton to Rexdale, down to the waterfront,

up the Don Valley and across to UTSC via the Gatineau Hydro Corridor.

The route will officially end at Port Union where it will connect with the Waterfront Trail

•In 2015, a portion of the Path will be temporarily routed onto city streets until

permanent off-road trail sections are completed starting in 2016

•“Friends of the Pan Am Path” - a citizen’s group, have committed to coordinate and fundraise

for 14 arts/cultural zones that will run through 21 wards along the Path and be activated May

through August, 2015

SPORT LITERACY PROGRAM

Development of a program curriculum that when delivered by

competent leaders and coaches, will enhance and increase the fitness

and physical literacy of children aged 3-10.

•To be based on Canadian Sport for Life’s LTAD Model

•To be delivered in a series of age and skill appropriate modules

•Program leaders will be trained on the delivery of the curriculum,

assessments and the use of the assessment tool as well as Fundamental

Movement Skills and High Five training

•To be a core program in all Community Recreation Centres in 2015

and will be adapted for use in summer camps and after school programs

Game on Toronto! Strengthening community through sport

$500,000 in sport development grants will be made available to not-for-

profit City of Toronto community groups to encourage and facilitate

sport development and volunteerism.

•Projects will be required to fall within one of the following three categories:

1. Sport Development

2. Sport Enhancement

3. Building sport volunteer capacity

• Project proposals will be scored and finalists will be promoted online for

Toronto residents to vote for those they feel have the most merit and will

have the greatest impact. Projects will be awarded funding based on

voting results as well as results of a scoring panel

• Two levels of funding

• Up to $20,000 or up to $50,000

• Game on Toronto will be launched as part of

the 1 Year Countdown celebrations

taking place at Nathan Phillips Square on July 11/12, 2014

PLAY ON PARASPORT!

To highlight the 2015 Parapan Am Games and to increase awareness

and participation in sport for athletes with a physical disability, the City

of Toronto will fund weekly introductory sports sessions and skill

development sessions for 50 weeks.

•Two weekly programs to be run out of the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre

and the Etobicoke Olympium

•Program to focus on children, youth and adults

•Athlete ambassadors and coaches will introduce a variety of sports and will

provide multi-sport skill development sessions to provide participants with

an opportunity to learn the skills required for different sports

•All sessions to be provided at no cost to the participant

•Play On! PARASPORT will start in September, 2014

LET’S GET COACHING

This program will provide free community level coach certification

courses for 2015 Toronto residents in 2015. Both Fundamental

Movement Skills and Sport Specific courses will be offered in the

National Coaching Certification Program’s Community Coach Stream

•All courses will be offered at no cost to Toronto residents 16 years +

•Over 100 Sport Specific courses and Fundamental Movement Skills courses

will be offered in Toronto Community Recreation Facilities throughout Toronto

•Coaches Association of Ontario and Provincial Sport and Multi-Sport

Organizations will assist with the coordination and delivery of the courses

(Over 25 Provincial Sport Organizations registered to provide courses to

date)

TORONTO SPORTS HALL OF HONOUR In the spirit of hosting the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, the Toronto

Sports Hall of Honour (TSHH) will celebrate and promote exceptional

community sport contributions and accomplishments of individuals who

serve as inspirational role models and have brought recognition and honour

to the City of Toronto.

•Central display at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre

•Inductee plaque to be placed at Toronto

Community Recreation Centre of recipient’s choice.

•Annual Induction Ceremony

(Inaugural Ceremony, June 2015)

•A virtual Toronto Sports Hall of Honour will be linked to both the City of

Toronto and Toronto Sports Council websites

• New Corporation: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC) Inc.

• Established on December 18, 2013

• City of Toronto and University of Toronto are co-owners

• A Board of Directors has been established with 10 members - five appointed members by each owner

• Recruitment is underway for the Managing Director and Senior Staff

Operational Overview Programs and services will be provided by the following:

• National and Provincial Sport Organizations

Community Involvement

TPASC Inc will create two advisory councils

1) Sport Advisory Council

2) Community Advisory Council

Terms of reference for these groups as well as membership structure is currently under development

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre will oversee:

• Building Operations

• Fitness Centre Operation including fitness programming

• Rentals Opportunities (pools, gyms, various building amenities, special events, sporting competitions, Climbing Wall etc)

• A variety of TPASC specialized programs

• Leases and Agreements

City of Toronto Programming

• Swimming Lessons for all ages and abilities;

• Preschool & Children Programming;

• Youth Programs and Leadership Opportunities;

• Introductory Sports Programs;

• Arts & Dance Instructional Programs;

• General Interest and Social Programs;

• Older Adult Programs

• Aquatic Leadership; and

• Drop-in Community Programming
