Last issue of About Us I touched upon the inspiring speech of PM Narendra Modi from the Red Fort on Independence Day. Now let me continue. Modi government has come with an innovative strategy to cut cooking gas subsidy without sparking protests. In a plan said to have come straight from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the government is asking people who are well-off to opt out of LPG subsidy scheme and pay for their LPG cylinders at the market rate

Subsidy on LPG cylinders comes to a mammoth Rs 46,000 crore at present. Any subsidy provided translates to money out of the exchequer. The same money if not given out as subsidy could be used for development purposes benefitting the nation. This could benefit 36% Indians, especially those who are poor, who do not have access to clean cooking gas. On an average, Indians use 7.2 LPG cylinders at home. Those who opt out of LPG subsidy would have to pay Rs 3,600 more every year for their cylinders. Families who use up the maximum number (12) subsidized cylinder allowed in a year will have to

pay Rs 6,200 a year. .This has really caught my attention. I did not take much

time to act. TODAY I PROUDLY SAY THAT I HAVE OPTED OUT OF LPG SUBSIDY SCHEME AND JOINED THE NATION BUILDING INTIATIVE. I am sure some of you have already done this or planning to do this.

Now I urge all Midtowners to come forward and take up this project and voluntarily opt out of LPG subsidy and join me and few thousands nationwide who have taken this initiative. Pls. log into your LPG portal and it takes less than 30secs to make this significant decision. Those of you who opt out message me or call me; I will put a scroll of honor for Midtowners in About Us which will feature regularly. May be it will be an inspiration for other Rotarians in the district…..small step for a big impact.

Career Orientation Programme

56 Mahajanas girls on 23rd August at RK Ashram

A MINI STEPHEN COVEY DISCOURSE

BY LION SUKUMAR RANGACHAR

As part of Membership Development Month in

Midtown the topic given to Mysore's Renowned

Entrepreneur & Management Consultant Lion Sukumar

Rangachar was 'The Importance of Joining a Service

Organization'. The ideal target would have been

individuals not yet in any social movement but

intending to be part of any such organizations. However

the audience consisted of hard core service oriented

Rotarians many of whom Lion Sukumar knew very well.

An articulate speaker with wisdom over the years, Lion

Sukumar began with a brief insight on his own path to

service organization. He later dwelt on the reasons one

has to chose a platform to serve as it gives one a better

leverage to serve. He relied on Stephen Covey's 'The 7

Habbits of Highly Effective People' to base his thought

process on the subject. He highlighted the Four

Dimensions of Renewal from Physical, Mental,

Social/Emotional to Spiritual as quoted by Covey to

emphasize the need to be in a service organization. He

interspersed his speech with relevant incidents in his

own Lions Organization. He further touched upon the

Laws of Love and Life and how continuous Learning can

evolve individuals. His thought clarity and presentation

made the sitting interesting.

After a brief interactive session, Rtn Manoj conducting

the meeting in his Classic Bond Style adjourned the

meeting. Fairly good attendance was a notable factor

and the credit goes to Venky and his Team for all the

hard work. – SBC
