Cast Biographies

Callahan Barton (Jennifer Wigglin) is making her first appearance on the ACT stage. She has participated in Grace Church Drama and Jubilate. Callahan enjoys reading, writing, singing, acting, and playing tennis. She likes to hang out with her friends and neighbors. Callahan is thirteen years old. She is homeschooled and is in seventh grade.

Stacie Bendixen (Kitty Civette) has appeared in ACT’s 110 Stories, Francine’s Will, and Adam’s Eve. She has also performed in Urbandale Community Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast, State Fair, and The Music Man. Stacie spends her free time listening to the Broadway channel and emulating Leslie Knope. She is the President-Elect of the ACT Board. Stacie works in public relations at Wells Fargo.

Lily Bretthaur (Hazmat Director) is also making her debut on the ACT stage. She has attended ACT’s Summer Drama and Musical Theater Camps, performed in her school’s play, and participated in dance recitals. Lily enjoys fencing and cross-country track. She is thirteen years old and is a seventh grader at Parkview Middle School.

Garren Bugh (Tug Goff) is happy to be returning to the ACT stage after a long hiatus. ACT shows include Leaving Iowa, Wait Until Dark, The Odd Couple, and The Amorous Ambassador. Garren has served on the ACT Board of Directors. He enjoys cooking, card-making, auto repair, and spending time with his two children, Reagan and Mackenzie. He is a home mortgage consultant for Wells Fargo.

Susan Casber (Mavis Jemco) is well known for her ACT performances: Done to Death, Musical Chairs, The Regifters, Death by Chocolate, Play On, and Sing On. She has performed in productions at Pella, Class Act Productions, and the Ingersoll Dinner Theater. Susan is a retired school nurse. She works as a substitute school nurse and as a standardized patient for Des Moines University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and attending theater shows. Susan would like to thank her family for their support. Love you more, Mom!

Anne Claes (Shirley Wigglin) performed in ACT’s season opener, Done to Death. She loves to bake and is a kickboxing instructor as well as a teacher at ACT’s Summer Drama Camps. Anne is pleased to be sharing the stage again with her husband, John. They have a daughter, Katherine, who is a sophomore at Drake University. Anne is a paraeducator for Johnston Community Schools.

John Claes (Roy Robbins) has been seen on the ACT stage many times, most recently as Hucklebee in the musical, The Fantasticks. A Delightful Quarantine reunites him with his real-life co-star (and wife), Anne. John is an instructor for ACT’s Summer Drama Camps and has served two terms on ACT’s Board of Directors. He is the Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations at Lutheran Services in Iowa.

Troy DeStigter (Chester Banderhorn) has entertained many audiences in his numerous ACT roles. Favorite shows include Come Blow Your Horn (Mr. Baker), It Runs in the Family (Bill), A Nice Family Gathering (Michael), and Play On (Henry Benish). Troy enjoys collecting records and other music memorabilia. He works at Meredith Corporation.

Beth Feilmeier (Judeen Dempsey) was last seen by ACT audiences during the August production of The Trouble With Cats. Other ACT shows include The Maginot Line, Sherlock’s Last Case, Death by Chocolate, and Some Sweet Day. She has also appeared at Stage West in The Patron Saint of Sea Monsters. Beth enjoys going to the gym, spending time with her boyfriend, Bronson, and her dog, Gizmo, and traveling. She is employed with the State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Deb Ivis (Barbara Middlebrook) is excited to be in her first ACT show. Many years ago, she appeared in Fiddler on the Roof at Urbandale Community Theatre. The rest of her theater time has been spent watching shows in New York, Las Vegas, and Des Moines area theaters. Deb’s hobbies include traveling, spending time with her family, and supporting ISU and Iowa basketball. She is an Ambulatory Surgery RN at Mercy Hospital.

Melanie Jones (Sue Stadler) has been away from the stage for sixteen years and is excited to be a part of this show. In the past, she performed in productions at DMACC, Waldorf College, and Ballard High School. Melanie’s hobbies include reading and music. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Jason, and her three kids. She is a phlebotomist.

Jim Leeper (Dean Stadler) has appeared on numerous stages around the area: ACT, Des Moines Playhouse, ACTORS, and Central College as well as Maury County Arts Guild in Columbia, Tennessee. Favorite roles include Harry McMichael (Not Now Darling), Nick (Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas), and Leslie Tate (It Runs in the Family). Traveling, sports, and photography fill up Jim’s free time.

Becky Plager (Bethany Robbins/Assistant Director) has been involved with ACT for almost twenty years. She has served on the Board of Directors, acted on stage, worked backstage, and operated the tech booth. This is her first time assistant directing and acting at the same time. Becky likes to remodel her house and volunteer for various organizations during her free time. She works for DuPont Industrial Bioscience.

Debbie Rasko (Violet Bassey) may be a first time ACT cast member but she is quite familiar with acting. She has appeared in Oubliette (Jane), A Bad Year for Tomatoes (Reba Harper), and Incident at San Bajo (Crystal O’Neill). Debbie is retired and enjoys spending time sewing, quilting, line dancing, ballroom dancing, and singing. She has two sons and five wonderful grandchildren.

Elisa Richter (Diandra Robbins) explored the world of theater and learned valuable acting skills at ACT’s Summer Drama Camps and then decided it was time to take her spot on the ACT stage. She is excited about participating in the show. She would like to have a career in acting and performing someday. Elisa is a sixth grader at Prairie Ridge Middle School. She likes to act, sing, and horseback ride.

Wendi Taylor (Lucy Fuller) last appeared at ACT in Death By Chocolate (Coco Pervis). Favorite roles in other area venues include Maria (Lend Me a Tenor), Sister Margareta (The Sound of Music), Sister Amnesia (Nuncrackers), and Jingle Singer (Miracle on 34th Street). She enjoys watching movies (oldies and comedies), singing and absolutely loves musicals. She is a crop insurance specialist at Farmers Mutual Hail.

Whitney Welp (Paula Middlebrook-Clobb) is excited to be in her first ACT show. She has performed at Marshalltown Community College in The Dilemma (Susan), Rumors (Cookie), and The Shadow Box (Agnes). Whitney is a speech pathologist at the VA Hospital in Des Moines and is a member of the Iowa Speech Association. Hobbies include event photography, Facebook, and spending time with friends. She would like to thank her family, especially her husband, Matt, for their support.

Kent Whitmore (Clark Wigglin) has entertained ACT audiences for many years. Favorite shows include Harvey (Elwood Dowd), High Society (Dexter Haven), Drinking Habits (Father Chenille), and Godspell (John the Baptist). Kent and his wife, Vonnie, enjoy spending time with their two children, Alicia and Bryce, and their grandson, Leland. In his spare time, Kent participates in biking, camping, and Toastmasters. Kent is a social worker at Broadlawns Medical Center.

Dawn Hockemeyer (Director) is directing her second show. She directed The Dixie Swim Club back in 2013 and assistant directed The Trouble With Cats in August. Dawn was last seen on stage in Drinking Habits a few summers ago. Her favorite shows include A Christmas Foundling and The Money in Uncle George’s Suitcase. During the school year, Dawn is a media associate at Northview Middle School. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing and spending time with her daughter, Katelyn, and husband, Greg.

An Ankeny Evening with the Arts Since 2008 “An Ankeny Evening with the Arts” has annually brought together in one place organizations that promote the arts in our community: Ankeny Art Center, Ankeny Community Band, Ankeny Community Chorus, Ankeny Community Theatre, and Art for Ankeny. This evening recognizes and celebrates important cultural contributions that art makes to the city. Come join us at this year's “An Ankeny Evening with the Arts,” Friday, May 12 at Prairie Ridge Church, 825 NW 36th Street.

The Ankeny Art Center will host an exhibit of two local artist’s work starting at 6:30 p.m. Deb Garner is a professional watercolor artist. Zach Dow is an Ankeny dentist who creates elegant and beautifully ceramic art. The other organizations will also have information available, and harpist Kristen Maahs will accompany the gathering.

Ankeny Community Chorus’s concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., including some light, fun selections like the Beatles’ “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da,” “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy,” sung by the women of the chorus, and “Johnny Schmoker,” sung by the men. Two featured choral works on the program are “O Love” by Des Moines composer Elaine Hagenberg and Randol Alan Bass’s “Gloria”.

An Ankeny Evening with the Arts Since 2008 “An Ankeny Evening with the Arts” has annually brought together in one place organizations that promote the arts in our community: Ankeny Art Center, Ankeny Community Band, Ankeny Community Chorus, Ankeny Community Theatre, and Art for Ankeny. This evening recognizes and celebrates important cultural contributions that art makes to the city. Come join us at this year's “An Ankeny Evening with the Arts,” Friday, May 12 at Prairie Ridge Church, 825 NW 36th Street.

The Ankeny Art Center will host an exhibit of two local artist’s work starting at 6:30 p.m. Deb Garner is a professional watercolor artist. Zach Dow is an Ankeny dentist who creates elegant and beautifully ceramic art. The other organizations will also have information available, and harpist Kristen Maahs will accompany the gathering.

Ankeny Community Chorus’s concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., including some light, fun selections like the Beatles’ “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da,” “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy,” sung by the women of the chorus, and “Johnny Schmoker,” sung by the men. Two featured choral works on the program are “O Love” by Des Moines composer Elaine Hagenberg and Randol Alan Bass’s “Gloria”.
