SS. PETER & PAUL 2ND GRADERS LEARN ABOUT TIES
Second grade students in Nancy Fetzer's class at SS. Peter & Paul School recently read the story Mr. Tannen's Tie Trouble by Maryann Cocca-Leffler. After reading the story they had a surprise visit from Principal Patrick Ries-ter, who brought in his collection of ties to show the class. Riester taught the students how to properly tie a neck-tie and also told stories about how he acquired his ties and the special sentimental meaning behind them. Pictured above is Riester showing off unique Buffalo ties.

with a proper base. 8” to 10” of crushed stone is installed,
graded, and compacted.
PavingWe construct new driveways
and parking lots. We alsorepave or overlay over existing

repaired using hot mix asphalt.
Crack Filler & SealerProtect your investment! Cracks in
your blacktop allow waterpenetration. Rubberized hot crack
filler and seal coating will beautify and extend the life of your blacktop.

GOIN’ BALD FOR BUCKS 2013 CAMPAIGN
Once again North Collins students, staff, and com-munity members completed a successful Goin' Bald for Buck Campaign on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 raising over $11,000 in the 11th year of participation. This is the single most successful charity event run in the North Col-lins community and school. Over the last 10 years, North Collins School has donated close to $80,000 to the Goin’ Bald for Bucks campaign. This campaign supports cancer patients at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The elementary school had 54 student participants and raised $5000 and the high school had 16 student partici-pants. Many other staff and community members also participated in the event by shaving their heads. The top amounts raised were Aaron Conklin with $1001.00, Selena Maciejewski with $423.00 and Nicho-las Nosbisch with $320.00. The event is coordinated by Miss Julie Palmer from the high school and Ms. Maria DeFeo from the elementary school. Student ambassadors from the 5th grade classes and at the high school level also assist in the campaign. Top Picture : High School Participants Bottom Picture: Elementary School Participants

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE In January, the Respect Life Committee of Blessed John Paul II Parish held its first "Respect Life Essay Con-test, open to all parish young people in grades 8-12. Mrs. Manley's 8th Grade Religion class at Southtowns Catholic participated as a class assignment. All of their essays were very well written, so all of the students were entered in the contest. In addtion to the ten entries from SCS, there were four others from students attending public school, all but one of whom previously attended Southtowns Catholic. (Ironically, even the one who wasn't a student has strong family ties to the school and parish!) We're very proud of all the students who entered the contest. Mrs. Mary Kowalczyk, of the Respect Life Com-mittee, said that judging the essays was the most difficult task she can remember, because they were all very good. The First Place award ($100 McKinley Mall gift card) went to Emily Hale ("11 SCS grad, currently a sophomore at Lakeshore High School). Second Place went to SCS 8th grade student Elliott Di Christopher ($50 McKinley Mall gift card). Honorable Mention certificates were awarded to Matthew Argy, Brad Darvill, Evan Herman, Claire Koessler, Evan Mangan, Nick Ralph, Molly Skalski, Hunter Skoczylas, and Eli Tremblay, all current 8th grad-ers at SCS. Also: Sarah Fiorello (Frontier Middle School 8th grader and granddaughter of our former school custo-dian, Mr. Charlie), Katie Bojdak and Natalie Pietro (for-merly students at SCS, now 8th graders at Frontier Middle School & Eden Middle School).
