from the staff of the Portage College Public Legal Education Program. This newsletter is intended to provide our students, community partners and the general public with news on upcoming sessions and events, and PLE information and resources.
The Portage College Public Legal Education Program (PLE) is a public service initiative offered by Portage College in partnership with the Alberta Law Foundation. Our services range from providing seminars and workshops on legal and justice related topics, to networking and partnering with service agencies within the region to address justice/legal needs of area residents, to providing a legal resource directory and public legal education information (PLEI).

Legal Avenue – www.LegalAve.ca The website contains resources about family law. This includes information about marriage and divorce, adoption, elder care, domestic violence, and child support. Future developments will include updates to the family law content and expansion to include information on other areas of law.
LegalAve is not only intended for Albertans looking for legal information, it also helps service providers make effective referrals and stay current about the programs and services of other organizations.
FINDING GOOD LEGAL RESOURCES
One of our program objectives is distributing Public Legal Education Information (PLEI) and to meet this goal, we will be offering a session that walks you through websites that are helpful for finding answers to your legal questions.
This session will direct you to dependable sources of legal information; help you assess the reliability of legal information; explain the difference between legal information and legal advice; and tell you where to find legal advice and representation.
Participants will receive a copy of the PLE Northeastern Alberta Resource Directory, play bingo and be eligible to win some great prizes in this fun & interactive learning session.
Join us on April 15th from 11 am to 1 pm at the courthouse in St. Paul to learn about the law and some of the legal institutions that form the cornerstones of Canadian democracy. More details coming soon. Watch for posters or log on to facebook.com/lawdaystpaul or PLEonline.ca for details!
