EN50131 & PD6662:2010 - The Facts

EN50131 is the European standard that covers ‘intrusion systems’ and PD6662:2010 is the enabling document to allow the adoption of EN50131 in the UK which has been mandatory for all intruder alarm systems installed from 1st October 2005. One of the key features has been the introduction of four security product system grades along with environmental classes.

GradesThe four security grades are as follows:

Power Supplies

12V dc / 24V dc Switchable Power Supply Units

The new ‘switchable switchmode’ 12V dc / 24V dc range of power supplies have been designed for access control, CCTV and general purpose applications thatrequire standby battery functionality.

All models possess a mains fail relay output and an independent ancillary relay that can be used for applications such as a ‘Fire’ door release relay.

On installation the units can be setup to provide either 13.8V or 27.6V dc by a simple PCB selection switch.

They are available in three power variants with multi-fused output models if required:

• 13.8V dc 4A / 27.6V dc 2A• 13.8V dc 6A / 27.6V dc 3A• 13.8V dc 8A / 27.6V dc 4A

The products use energy efficient switch mode technology and therefore have a universal mains supply input (90—264V ac).

All offer full rated current to load and featuring a fully regulated output with low ripple and noise. Unboxed (module only) versions are also available if required.

Enclosures to accommodate both 12V 7Ah and 17Ah battery combinations.

Description

Overview

The 12-24 G-Range Series of switch mode power supplies have a regulated highly stable output supplying full rated current to load and accepts a universal mains voltage input range (90 to 264V ac).

A user selectable PCB switch allows the user to select output voltage prior to installation, offering power flexibility for any application.

A FOM 4 or 8 are standard on some models but if not they can be fitted to give independent fused outputs. See page 26 for more information.

Overview

New to Elmdene’s power supply range are Power over Ethernet (PoE) standby devices. These units are capable of providing back-up power that can be used in security, access control and information technology applications.

The products fall into two categories.

The first are mains powered units producing 48V dc for powering PoE Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) devices such as PoE injectors or switches (dc powered). These use an industry standard 12V dc lead acid battery to provide battery backed 48V dc power.

The second group of PoE devices (PoE and PoE+) receive their power remotely from PoE. Due to power being provided from a PoE injector or switch, a mains connection is not required at the installation point. With local battery back- up, they are ideal for critical systems that would otherwise be compromised on loss of power. These devices also offer a network connection providing a unique, cost effective solution of powering systems out in the field.

Overview

Elmdene’s Fire Alarm Beacon is an EN54-23 compliant product that is capable of C-3-15 performance (ceiling mounted VAD).

With its universal mounting plate it can accommodate any detector base, providing a coverage area of 3m height and 15m diameter. This coverage matches the typical coverage of smoke detectors enabling customers a simple method of specifying and installing the devices.

Detector bases are fixed to a mounting plate that is designed to take any generic detector base.

Should the device be used as a stand-alone fire alarm beacon then a supplied flush white blanking plate can be fitted for aesthetic purposes.
